Abstract

Abstract

All England is one of the oldest and famous badminton competitions in the world which experienced challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. The forcing of Indonesian to withdraw from the event due to the National Health Service (NHS) regulations led to a dispute between the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as the organizer to the Indonesian Badminton Squad. The situation becomes complicated when the media creates a narrative that triggers a bigger conflict due to public pressure through social media, which causes Indonesian government to intervene. This study aims to explain the dispute resolution through negotiation and its factors. The method in this study is qualitative descriptive with literature review and interview. Based on data from online media news, the research results show Indonesian dispute resolution in All England cannot achieve a Win-Win solution since state policy is above everything. The factors of the negotiation process come from the internal, external, and cultural factors.

Abstract

Nowadays, the craftsman is considered a profession that does not need higher education requirements; thus, it creates a wider gap in the craftsmen's regeneration. Tumang's younger generation prefers to work as resellers instead of becoming craftsmen. This study aims to provide policy recommendations that support the preservation of the Tumang Copper Craft Art as traditional Indonesian knowledge. The research uses a qualitative method with a participatory action research approach. It focuses on group discussions with copper artisans and sellers in Tumang on collecting data on the field's challenges and interviews with policymakers to obtain appropriate policy recommendations. The results show that supporting the regeneration process is necessary. The request of public policy needs to be linked to formal education in schools through the Education and Culture Office and efforts to increase the capacity of artisans through the Community and Village Empowerment Service. Moreover, to ensure that the recommendation to support the preservation and development of the Copper Craft Art can be implemented, a public policy recommendation with legality is in the form of a Regent's Regulation because it may cover both education and community empowerment in Tumang.

Abstract

The discussion of ghosts is one of the topics that can be discussed anywhere and anytime. Ghosts in society are known as entities that have certain names and characteristics. One of the interesting things to research is the meaning of the Javanese ghost name. The name of Javanese ghost in this study was obtained from the article Alaming Lelembut in Panjebar Semangat Magazine in 2017-2019. This research aims to describe the meaning of Javanese ghost names. The meaning of Javanese ghost names was obtained using qualitative methods and Dijk’s (1980) theories of discourse analysis in Renkema (2004) through 3 rules, namely the rules of elimination, generalization, and construction. The results showed that there are 6 known Javanese ghost names, namely, Banaspati, Sundel Bolong, Peri, Bajang Kerek, Gendruwo, and Wewe Gombel. From those 6 names, there are 23 different meanings from one ghost to another and 6 meanings are general. The difference in meaning in the names of Javanese ghosts is caused by the influence of ideas or ideas contained in the minds of Javanese people who are detailed and meticulous.

Abstract

Gugon Tuhon (GT) is a Javanese proposition found in the community as a learning tool. This study explains baby care GT in the village of Bulurejo, Kediri, East Java. Currently, GT is poorly understood and obsolete. Therefore, the research problem of this paper is how can the meaning of GT be understood by mothers in the village of Bulurejo and what does the effect of understanding GT? This study used 8 GT from www.sastra.org, and an interview was conducted with a dhukun (traditional healer) to get in-depth data. This study uses qualitative method and Speech Act theory by Austin (1984) on locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act to identify the meanings of GT understood by mothers, and the theory of language attitudes by Triandis (1971) and Knops (1987) to explain the effects. The hypothesis of this paper is that the understanding of baby care GT as an illocutionary act is less understood, compared to the meaning of locution and perlocution. GT is understood and done by mothers as means of self-defense of fear and gaining knowledge of parents who convey GT. This research is expected to provide knowledge about GT baby care for mothers and support GT preservation.

Abstract

This research delves into the extensive lexicon of the Javanese language, specifically focusing on expressions related to feelings of love. The presence of multiple Javanese lexicons denoting love poses a significant challenge, prompting the central question: What are the semantic nuances that distinguish each lexicon, given the absence of absolute synonyms? The research aims to elucidate the semantic fields that differentiate each love-related lexicon in Javanese. Data for this research is drawn from four distinct Javanese dictionaries, spanning various publication periods. Additionally, the study incorporates diverse data sources, including a book titled "Antologi Cerita Pendek Bahasa Jawa di Yogyakarta," Djaka Lodhang magazine, and the Javanese language corpus from the Javanese Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia which contribute valuable data on sentences conveying the meaning of love. This qualitative research used Nida’s (1975) theoretical framework on componential analysis of meaning. The results show the existence of sixteen Javanese lexicons conveying the meaning of love, with only eight being actively used in sentences, and one common component, four diagnostic components, and forty-one supplementary components. These meaning components provide insights into the nuanced distinctions and potential redefinitions of each love-related lexicon in the Javanese language.

Abstract

Gugon tuhon (GT) is one of the Javanese sayings or oral traditions that contains piwulang ‘knowledge’ as guidance in conducting polite behaviors that generally in the forms of orders and prohibitions. GT contains frightening elements so that they are not violated by those who believe them. GT has much guidance that relates to humans’ life, and one of them is GT for Javanese women to behave well in order to have good characters. GT data that are used in this research were taken from a text entitled Serat Gugontuhon Prawira Winarsa on www.sastra.org that focused on appropriate behaviors for Javanese women. In the Javanese community, GT is generally acquired through informal oral interaction. Therefore, understanding the pragmatic meaning is necessary.  However, the data which were taken from written text raised a problem, namely what the pragmatic meanings of GT for Javanese women are. This research aims in explaining the meanings of GT for Javanese women that can promote character building. Then, in order to obtain more detailed pragmatic meanings’ results, interviews with mothers and daughters were also conducted in Sambiresik Village, Kediri. This research used the qualitative method and Austin's speech action theory (1984) which consisted of locutions, illocutions, and perlocutions acts meaning. The results showed that the meaning of locutions and illocutions are in the form of guidance to avoid prohibitions. So the Javanese women would perform well-mannered behaviors that according with the common norm. The perlocutions’ meanings were more as a suggestion act in order to avoid the prohibitions. Although the meanings of GT are still understood by mothers and some daughters, yet they believed that some of the guidance is not relatable to the present condition due to the enhancement of technology. GT which are not in accordance with present times are no longer heard in the community. It leads to a threat of the GT extinction in the future. Therefore, this research is expected to be an effort in preserving Javanese language and culture through GT because GT is known as Javanese local wisdom that is not simply as a belief but also has elements of truth that are useful to human’s life.
