Abstract

Anchovy is one of potential commodities widely found and caught by fishermen in FMA-572 West Sumatra. Examining its exploitation rate is a part of taking control and monitor toward the fishing activities to avoid overfishing possibility. This recent study aims to calculate exploitation rate and oceanographic characteristics of anchovy fishing grounds. The data was collected from Bungus Oceanic Fishing Port, West Sumatra in 2018-2022. Meanwhile, sea surface temperature and chlorophyll data were obtained from https://marine.copernicus.eu/ and https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov 2018-2022, respectively. The results showed that the exploitation rate of anchovies in 2020 and 2022 has exceeded maximum sustainable yield categorized as overexploitation with a percentage of 130.44% and 112.84%. Anchovy catches are significantly influenced by oceanographic factors with F value 0.00000115 ( 0.05). An increase in CPUE value is align with chlorophyll increase and in contrary to sea surface temperature. The findings are expected to give an overview related to anchovy fishing activities implementation and become an input for fisheries governance that lead to sustainable fisheries management.Keywords:FMA-572MSYOverfishingSustainable fisheriesStolephorus sp

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat telah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 11 Agustus 2024 di Dusun Kalangan, Desa Pulau Pahawang, Kabupaten Pesawaran, Provinsi Lampung, dengan melibatkan 35 siswa sebagai peserta. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran generasi muda terhadap pentingnya pelestarian ekosistem mangrove. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyampaian materi teori serta diskusi interaktif. Pulau Pahawang sebagai wilayah pesisir memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan ekosistem mangrove, namun menghadapi tantangan seperti alih fungsi lahan, penurunan kualitas lingkungan, dan rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat. Melalui edukasi mengenai jenis-jenis mangrove dan pemanfaatannya, kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman siswa secara signifikan. Evaluasi pasca-kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman dan keterlibatan aktif masyarakat setempat dalam mendukung pelestarian lingkungan. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi langkah awal dalam membentuk generasi muda yang peduli terhadap lingkungan pesisir secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Ekosistem terumbu karang di Indonesia mengalami tekanan serius akibat pemanasan global, aktivitas wisata bahari, dan pencemaran laut. Desa Pulau Pahawang, Lampung, kondisi terumbu karang diduga menurun akibat tingginya kunjungan wisata tanpa pengelolaan ramah lingkungan, padahal ekosistem ini berperan penting bagi keseimbangan lingkungan dan ekonomi pesisir. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan mendampingi masyarakat dalam penyediaan fragmen karang lokal sebagai sumber bibit transplantasi serta mentransfer teknologi coral nursery sistem gantung untuk meningkatkan kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan karang. Pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui tiga tahapan, yaitu pra-kondisi berupa koordinasi dan perizinan, pelaksanaan berupa ceramah, diskusi, dan praktik pembuatan floating nursery dengan bahan lokal (pipa PVC, tali nilon, dan pelampung), serta evaluasi melalui tingkat kehidupan karang. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap teknik coral nursery, tujuan restorasi, dan peran masyarakat dalam konservasi. Masyarakat menunjukkan kemampuan untuk mereplikasi teknologi secara mandiri dalam mendukung program konservasi berkelanjutan. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini efektif meningkatkan kapasitas masyarakat pesisir terkait penerapan coral nursery sistem gantung, memperkuat kolaborasi akademisi dan masyarakat, serta mendorong konservasi terumbu karang dan pengembangan ekowisata yang berkelanjutan di Pulau Pahawang
