Abstract

As a complex process, writing is always interesting to be discussed. One of the students' biggest problems in writing is in maintaining coherence. Coherence is a systemic model to unify some elements to become good writing. This article aims to identify the most cohesion type used by the students and factors that influence the unsuccessful coherence of the text. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data were obtained by collecting descriptive text written by thirteen English Diploma Program students. The unit of analysis in this study is a community –based tourism text which describes tourism villages in Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. The writers take Community-Based Tourism (CBT) as the unit of analysis because the government right now is developing CBT in many areas in Indonesia. As an important stakeholder, the University must prepare the students to write good descriptions of CBT. The result of this study shows most of the students use reference, reiteration, and conjunction in their writing but they have very minimal use of ellipsis, substitution, and collocation. The writers found that some of the students' sentences have successful integration, but some have not successful integration. There are several factors influence unsuccessful integration. Those are students' prior knowledge, inappropriate use of cohesive devices, and illogical sequence. Finally, we can conclude that the students need more guidance and knowledge of using effective writing, cohesive devices and logical sequence.

Abstract

Pandemic condition due to Covid-19 disease pushes a new trend in teaching learning activity. It forces all levels of education implementing online learning platforms. Online learning platform gives freedom for students to learn autonomously. There are many online learning platforms available in this pandemic condition. One of the online learning platforms is eLDirU (e-Learning Jenderal Soedirman University). eLDirU is an online learning platform developed by Jenderal Soedirman University. It functions as a digital literacy learning innovation for native digital generation. In eLDirU, students and lecturers can interact in many activities provided in it. Students utilize eLDirU as synchronous and asynchronous learning media. This study observes students’ perception on using eLDirU as asynchronous learning media. 66 students worked as the subject of this study. 66 feedbacks were collected from students’ answers on questionnaires. The result of the questionnaire showed that eLDirU as asynchronous leaning media was proven to be helpful for the students in learning process. Students had a chance to explore themselves more in eLDirU. It also made them more active during learning process because lecturers facilitated the learning process by uploading related materials, videos, and other learning sources in it. Students also found no difficulties in accessing eLDirU, although they stayed in distant area. It might make them enjoy learning on eLDirU. The second result pointed out the use of eLDirU as asynchronous learning media. Students preferred using eLDirU when it came to asynchronous learning. In happened because they could explore their learning sources more with the help of eLDirU. But, for synchronous learning, the use of other learning content management system, such as Zoom meeting and Google Meet, would be students’ top preference. It might ease students’ understanding on the topic better.

Saifuddin Zuhri (UIN Saizu) Purwokerto. The purpose of this study is to investigate the students’ perceptions of hybrid learning in two different universities as well as to find out the challenges during the implementation of hybrid learning. There were 88 participants taken as subjects from both universities. This study was a qualitative method that used observation and questionnaires to collect data from participants. Abstract

AbstractThe community service is aimed to provide knowledge about brochure visualization. The method used to achieve these objectives involves activities such as presentations, training, and mentoring, which include knowledge building, modeling, joint construction, and independent construction activities. To measure the success of the activity, there are three types of evaluation: (1) the initial stage through a Pre-test. Questions are posed through a Google form to assess the participants' initial knowledge, (2) the implementation stage/process of the activity through observation, discussion, practice, and assessment of the final products, and (3) the final stage through a post-test, where answers are assessed to determine the knowledge improvement after participating in this PkM. With these evaluation stages, the knowledge and skills of the participants are assessed to understand their improved understanding of brochure visualization knowledge and skills. As a result, there is an increase in knowledge about brochure visualization. Through this activity, issues related to optimizing knowledge and skills in brochure visualization can be addressed.

Abstract

The central goals of this study are to see the implementation of Project-Based Learning for English diploma program students, to see the students' perceptions toward the implementation of project-based learning, and to see the challenges of its implementation in online learning. The research method is a descriptive qualitative method that used Stoller and Simpson theories to analyze the implementation of Project-based Learning in online learning. The results of this study show that 77.1% of respondents are satisfied with the implementation of project-based learning. They also obtained 82.07, which means the students are able to achieve the learning outcome very well. There are some challenges in implementing project-based learning in the pandemic era. They needed autonomous learning methods, especially in mastering language skills, knowledge, and IT skills. However, to achieve learning outcomes and to solve the problems, the students independently discussed and worked together in their group to finish their project. The effect of this process, students are more independent, critical, communicative, and creative in working on the project. Based on the positive findings, project-based learning becomes one of the alternative methods for assisting English diploma program students in acquiring 4Cs.
