Abstract

This study investigates the impact of emotional intelligence on aggressive behavior among high school students in Depok who have previously experienced early childhood education (PAUD). Employing a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression design, a sample of 446 high school students in Depok was selected through purposive sampling. Emotional intelligence was assessed using a Likert scale questionnaire consisting of 22 items, demonstrating a reliability coefficient of 0.833, while aggressive behavior was evaluated with a reliability coefficient of 0.833 across 25 items. Descriptive analysis revealed that the mean score for emotional intelligence (65.74) surpassed that of aggressive behavior (56.39), suggesting that higher levels of emotional intelligence may serve as a mitigating factor against aggressive tendencies. Regression analysis further illustrated a significant impact, yielding an R-square value of 0.984 and a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that 98,4% of emotional intelligence contributes to aggressive behavior.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat penguasaan tata bahasa Inggris oleh mahasiswa program studi Nautika dalam konteks komunikasi keselamatan pelayaran. Fokus kajian diarahkan pada dua kelas mahasiswa semester II di Politeknik Pelayaran Malahayati. Penguasaan tata bahasa yang baik sangat penting dalam komunikasi maritim, terutama saat menggunakan Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) yang menuntut kejelasan, ketepatan, dan keseragaman dalam situasi darurat maupun operasional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan instrumen berupa tes kemampuan tata bahasa dalam konteks keselamatan pelayaran serta wawancara terstruktur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam penggunaan struktur tata bahasa yang tepat, khususnya dalam bentuk imperatif, kalimat perintah, dan pola tanya yang berkaitan dengan situasi darurat. Faktor penyebab antara lain adalah kurangnya praktik berbahasa dalam konteks nyata serta pemahaman yang terbatas terhadap terminologi maritim berbahasa Inggris. Temuan ini menunjukkan pentingnya integrasi pembelajaran tata bahasa yang kontekstual dengan situasi keselamatan di laut guna meningkatkan kesiapan komunikasi profesional para calon pelaut.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan distribusi preferensi gaya belajar dan tingkat kemampuan bahasa Inggris berdasarkan skor TOEIC di kalangan taruna Politeknik Pelayaran Malahayati. Sebanyak 56 taruna dari tiga program studi—Permesinan Kapal (n=13), Sistem Kelistrikan Kapal (n=23), dan Nautika (n=20)—dilibatkan dalam studi ini dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dan teknik pengambilan sampel acak. Gaya belajar diukur melalui kuesioner berskala Likert yang mencakup empat dimensi: visual (9 item), auditori (7 item), kinestetik (10 item), dan kelompok (5 item). Sementara itu, skor TOEIC diperoleh dari tes mini TOEIC resmi yang diselenggarakan oleh institusi bekerja sama dengan penyedia layanan TOEIC, yang mengukur kemampuan menyimak (listening) dan membaca (reading). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa 51% taruna berada pada tingkat dasar (basic), 33% pada tingkat pemula (beginner), 12,5% pada tingkat menengah bawah (lower intermediate), dan hanya 1,8% mencapai tingkat menengah (intermediate). Dalam hal preferensi gaya belajar, gaya belajar kelompok (60%) dan auditori (58,9%) merupakan yang paling dominan, diikuti oleh visual (39,3%) dan kinestetik (17,9%). Temuan ini menyiratkan bahwa pengajaran Bahasa Inggris Maritim sebaiknya menitikberatkan pada aktivitas berbasis menyimak dan kerja kelompok agar sesuai dengan kecenderungan belajar taruna. Selain itu, data deskriptif ini mengindikasikan perlunya penyempurnaan kurikulum yang lebih responsif terhadap gaya belajar individu serta kebutuhan komunikasi profesional dalam konteks pelayaran.

Abstract

The Indonesian animated film Jumbo, released after Eid al-Fitr 2025, is worth examining not only for its popularity as a family movie but also for its emphasis on character values. This study uses a literature review approach for data collection and applies narrative synthesis based on Popay et al. (2006) to analyze the film’s content and meaning. The findings reveal that film is an effective medium for instilling character values in early childhood. Jumbo conveys messages of friendship, perseverance, good listening, creativity, and gratitude through a storyline that resonates with children’s everyday experiences. These values support children’s understanding of right and wrong (Kohlberg, 1984), while also fostering the development of moral reasoning and behavior aligned with social norms.

Abstract

Maritime English education plays an essential role in developing both professional competence and environmental awareness among future seafarers. Despite its significance, limited research has examined its relationship with environmental responsibility, particularly in relation to ocean literacy and ecological worldview. This study investigated the relationships among Maritime English competence, ocean literacy, and ecological worldview among cadets at Malahayati Maritime Polytechnic, Indonesia. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 48 cadets. Data were collected using a Maritime English questionnaire, an Ocean Literacy instrument, and the Revised New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) Scale. Spearman correlation analysis revealed significant positive relationships between Maritime English competence and ocean literacy (ρ = 0.421, p < 0.05), Maritime English competence and ecological worldview (ρ = 0.397, p < 0.05), and ocean literacy and ecological worldview (ρ = 0.465, p < 0.01). The findings suggest that Maritime English competence is associated not only with professional communication skills but also with environmental knowledge and ecological attitudes. These results highlight the potential of integrating sustainability-related content into Maritime English instruction to promote environmentally responsible maritime professionals.
