Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the role of board diversity in the form of the presence of female directors, the presence of foreign directors, the age of directors and the size of the board of directors against the risk of financial distress by conducting logistic regression testing on energy sector companies in Indonesia during 2018-2022. The results showed that the presence of female directors and the size of the board of directors negatively affected the risk of financial distress. Further research can test separately the period before the pandemic and after the pandemic so that the characteristics of each can be known in more detail. In addition, it can add cognitive diversity factors  such as education, expertise and tenure of directors. This research can be used as a reference to determine non-financial factors that can affect the possibility of financial distress experienced by the company.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the influence of gender diversity in the form of women's presence on the board of directors, board of commissioners and audit committee on the risk of financial distress faced by energy sector companies in Indonesia. The use of the board of commissioners and the audit committee is part of the latest research considering that Indonesia uses a two-tier system in top management structure. The sample of companies consist of 46 companies during the 2020-2022. The hypothesis in this paper will be tested using a logistic regression test. The findings of this paper show that gender diversity at the board of directors has a negative influence on the risk of financial difficulties faced by companies. Meanwhile, the gender diversity of the board of commissioners and the audit committee has no effect on financial distress. Further research is expected to develop the number of samples and update measurements with other methods.

Abstract

This study examines the financial resilience of Islamic banking in Indonesia by comparing Bank Umum Syariah (BUS) and Unit Usaha Syariah (UUS) in responding to macroeconomic shocks during January 2015 until December 2023. A composite resilience index is constructed using a z-score approach that integrates profitability and leverage indicators. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model is employed to capture short-run and long-run dynamics between resilience and its determinants, including total assets, third-party funds, inflation, the Bank Indonesia policy rate, and the COVID-19 shock. The results confirm long-run cointegration for both BUS and UUS, with notable differences in adjustment patterns. BUS demonstrates stronger structural resilience supported by asset scale, whereas UUS exhibits higher sensitivity to monetary tightening. Risk mapping further reveals latent vulnerabilities within the dual banking system. These findings highlight the need for differentiated supervision and a more selective approach in evaluating the readiness of UUS transformation into full-fledged Islamic banks.
