Abstract

Inflammation is a natural response that occurs in tissue damage caused by oxidative stress. Yellow root plant is one of the plants from the Menispermaceae family that contains bioactive compounds with several potential pharmacological activities, including as anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of administration of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol extract of yellow root on anti-inflammatory activity and test the most optimal anti-inflammatory activity on the type of solvent of yellow root extract (Arcangelisia flava (L.) Merr.). This study used a method of stabilizing red blood cell membranes in vitro which was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Stabilization was observed through the inhibitory ability of yellow root extract against red blood cell lysis due to the induction of a hypotonic solution which was then compared with a positive control (Ibuprofen). Results showed that n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol extracts of yellow root can stabilize red blood cell membranes. Data analysis showed significant significance that there was a significant percent difference in red blood cell membrane stabilization in the four test groups. The most optimal anti-inflammatory activity was found in yellow root n-hexane extract at a concentration of 250 ppm which was 48.76% comparable to the positive control (Ibuprofen) at a concentration of 50 ppm of 59.09%.

Abstract

Pain is a sensation that can interfere with activities and reduce the quality of life of the sufferer if left untreated and left prolonged. Senggani is one of the plants that contains flavonoid compounds and steroids that have analgesic activity. This study aimed to test the analgesic activity of senggani leaf fraction (Clidemia hirta [L] D.Don) in white mice swiss webster strain induced acetic acid and determine the fraction that most effectively produces analgesic activity. The type of research conducted is true experimental design based on Complete Randomized Design (RAL). The test animals used were 25 heads divided into 5 groups with 5 replications, namely negative control (CMC 1%), positive control (dexamethasone) and the test group of senggani leaf fraction, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol fractions. The data obtained were analyzed using an alternative test from One Way ANOVA namely Kruskal Wallis with a follow-up test post hoc Mann Whitney test. The results showed that the fraction of senggani leaves in all types of solvents had analgesic activity compared to negative controls (CMC 1%) with a significant difference (p0.05). From these results it is concluded that the senggani leaf fraction can be used as an analgesic.

Abstract

Corn silk is generally a waste of sweet corn plants after being harvested and is rarely used, however, on the other hand, corn silk is also used by the community as herbal medicine and is believed to reduce the risk of hypertension and other types of chronic diseases such as kidney infections. Corn silk is thought to contain metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, essential oils, steroids, and alkaloids. Alkaloid compounds can function as drugs and strong activators for immune cells that can destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi, and cancer cells. Flavonoid compounds are compounds that have various bioactive effects such as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, cardioprotective, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-aging, and antioxidants. it is necessary to measure the levels of alkaloids and flavonoids from corn silk infusion to determine the levels of alkaloid and flavonoid compounds in corn silk infusion. The method used in this study is the Uv-Vis spectrophotometry method. The alkaloid content was calculated using the regression formula y = 0.0895x - 0.3046, the results obtained in the corn hair infusion extract were 46.36 mg / g extract, and the flavonoid content was calculated using the regression formula y = 0.0144 x - 0.025 and the results obtained in the corn hair infusion extract were 85.42 mg / g extract. So it can be concluded that corn hair infusion contains more flavonoid compounds, namely with alkaloid compound levels of 46.36 mg / g extract and flavonoid compounds of 85.42 mg / g extract.
