Abstract

The  purpose  of  the study. The primary objective of this investigation is to assess the efficacy of pre-training sports massage in enhancing warm-up protocols for kabaddi athletes, focusing on its influence on various physiological parameters, performance metrics, and psychological preparedness. Materials and methods. A quasi-experimental design was employed involving a cohort of 20 elite kabaddi athletes (15 males and 5 females) aged between 18 and 30 years, hailing from professional teams in Medan City. The intervention spanned 8 weeks and consisted of a 15-minute pre-training sports massage regimen administered prior to standard warm-up sessions. Data were collected at baseline, after 4 weeks, and following 8 weeks of intervention, encompassing measurements of muscle temperature, range of motion, reaction time, performance indicators, and perceived readiness, utilizing standardized assessment instruments. Results. The intervention yielded statistically significant enhancements across multiple evaluated parameters. Muscle temperature exhibited an average increase of 2.3°C, while range of motion demonstrated a 12.5% improvement in hip flexibility; additionally, performance metrics revealed a 22% augmentation in defensive maneuver efficiency. Reaction time was reduced by 0.3 seconds, and participants indicated a decrease in perceived exertion alongside an enhancement in psychological readiness. All observed improvements were statistically significant (p < 0.001) and characterized by large effect sizes. Conclusions. The implementation of pre-training sports massage emerges as a potentially beneficial intervention for the optimization of warm-up protocols among kabaddi athletes. The extensive advantages noted across physiological, biomechanical, and psychological realms imply that the incorporation of sports massage into pre-training routines may significantly bolster athletic preparedness and performance capacity, particularly in high-intensity contact sports such as kabaddi.

Abstract

Objectives—This pilot project, aimed at investigating body type, strength, and flexibility as risk factors for injury amongst Bina Guna College of Sports and Health Students, has yielded significant findings. Methods—Fifteen subjects volunteered to participate in the present study. An ex-post facto study design using independent samples was employed. Injury history was established through the use of a questionnaire. From this information, each individual's injury status was categorized as "high" or "low" using a previously designed and validated scoring system. Body-type ratings were determined, followed by tests to assess muscular endurance, strength, and flexibility. Results—A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed no significant difference between groups of low and high injury rates and the dependent variables selected. However, the univariate analysis suggested trends indicating that the low-injury subjects were more flexible (back extension and ankle dorsiflexion) than those who reported more injuries (P=0.013). Independent t-tests revealed that between groups of low and high injury rates, there were significant age differences (P=0.002), stature (P=0.006), body mass (P=0.001), and years of gymnastics training (P=0.016). Conclusions—In the present study, strength, and body type proved not to be good indicators of an individual's susceptibility to injury. However, trends suggest low flexibility levels may predispose a gymnast to injury. The incidence of injury may also be related to the number of years an individual has participated in competitive gymnastics. In addition, older, taller, and heavier gymnasts may be at greater risk of injuries. These findings are crucial for the development of tailored training methods and injury prevention strategies, and they have significant implications for coaches in selecting and training future gymnasts

Abstract

This research investigates the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving the shooting skills of eighth-grade students in football at MTS Darul Ilmi during the 2022/2023 academic year. The study applied a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles involving 27 students. Each cycle included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection was carried out through lesson plans, observation sheets, and documentation, and analyzed using percentage-based descriptive statistics. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ shooting performance: the average score increased from 75 in cycle I (59.26% mastery) to 86 in cycle II (88.89% mastery), surpassing the minimum learning target of 75%. Moreover, students showed higher engagement, focus, and confidence during learning activities. The implementation of PBL successfully created an interactive and enjoyable learning environment that positively influenced motivation and achievement. The study concludes that integrating the PBL model into physical education effectively enhances football shooting skills and fosters active learning behavior among junior high school students.

Abstract

Motor competency is a foundational component of adolescent physical development, influencing both health outcomes and long-term activity participation. However, evidence on the reliability of comprehensive motor skill assessments in Indonesian high schools remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the test–retest reliability of a six-item sports motor competency battery in Indonesian high school students. Sixty adolescents (aged 15–17) from Perbaungan, North Sumatra, completed standardized assessments including sprint, vertical jump, agility, push-up, sit-and-reach, and medicine ball throw tests. A one-week interval separated repeated trials, and Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC), Standard Error of Measurement, and Bland–Altman analyses were employed. Results demonstrated excellent reliability across all measures (ICC = 0.89–0.97) with minimal measurement error and no gender differences. Small but non-significant learning effects were observed in vertical jump and push-up performance. These findings confirm that the battery provides consistent, dependable metrics suitable for physical education monitoring, talent identification, and longitudinal adolescent motor competency research.

Abstract

Objectives: Strengthening editorial capacity is essential for improving the quality, credibility, and accreditation readiness of local scholarly journals. Many regional academic associations, including ISORI (Sports Graduates Association) Kampar Regency, still face challenges in operating Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3 and meeting national accreditation requirements such as SINTA. This community service program aimed to enhance the editorial competencies of ISORI Kampar Regency, particularly in mastering OJS 3 operations and aligning editorial practices with SINTA accreditation standards. Methods: A participatory and competency-based training approach was implemented through a series of workshops, hands-on practice sessions, and intensive mentoring over a three-month period. The program involved 25 editorial board members representing lecturers, sports teachers, coaches, and sports practitioners. Training components included needs assessment, theoretical instruction, practical workshops, simulation exercises, and continuous follow-up mentoring. Results: The program resulted in substantial improvements in participants’ editorial skills. Pre-test scores increased from 45.2% to 82.6% in the post-test evaluation. Participants demonstrated notable progress in OJS 3 basic operations (51% improvement), knowledge of SINTA accreditation standards (43% improvement), editorial management competencies (43% improvement), and troubleshooting skills (44% improvement). Additionally, 96% of participants reported high satisfaction with the program, and a functional editorial workflow was successfully established. Conclusion: This community service initiative effectively enhanced the editorial capacity of ISORI Kampar Regency and strengthened their readiness for SINTA accreditation. The improved competencies in manuscript management, peer review processes, and journal administration contribute significantly to elevating the quality of sports science publications and supporting the advancement of evidence-based sports research in Kampar Regency and the broader Indonesian academic landscape
