Abstract

This study critically examines the use of Islamic counseling in improving the mental well-being of underprivileged students at senior high school. The main problem lies in the students' psychological vulnerability due to economic pressures that impact anxiety, low self-confidence, and emotional instability. This study used a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of the Guidance and Counseling teacher and two students selected by purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions with triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study indicate that Islamic counseling that integrates the values of patience, tawakal, gratitude, and sincerity is significantly able to reduce anxiety, strengthen emotional control, and build a positive self-concept of students. A spiritual approach based on the Qur'an and Sunnah has proven effective in fostering mental resilience and self-acceptance of family economic conditions. It is concluded that Islamic counseling is a strategic and effective intervention in improving the mental well-being of underprivileged students through an integrated strengthening of spiritual, emotional, and cognitive dimensions and the formation of a positive self-meaning on an ongoing basis

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the cultural preaching values contained in the Year-End Work Tradition in Gurusinga Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, and to identify the challenges in its implementation. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected thru participatory observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation from village heads, customary leaders, Islamic religious leaders, organizing committees, community leaders, and community members actively participating in the Yearly Work Tradition. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, while data validity was tested thru source, technique, and time triangulation. The research results show that the Year-End Work Tradition is still preserved as a cultural heritage of the Karo community, which functions to strengthen social cohesion thru deliberation, mutual assistance, and active participation of the community across ethnicities and religions. This tradition contains cultural preaching values that include gratitude to Allah Swt., brotherhood, mutual cooperation (ta'awun), interfaith tolerance, social concern, and the preservation of local culture. These values are internalized thru cultural practices that shape the religious character and social solidarity of the community. However, the implementation of cultural da'wah still faces challenges, including the provision of food that adheres to halal principles, the influence of modernization on the younger generation's understanding of traditional values, and the need for harmonization between cultural preservation and the application of Islamic values.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women in Indonesia, with a tendency for patients to become younger. Early detection through Breast Self-Examination (BSE) plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of delayed diagnosis, but young women's knowledge and attitudes regarding BSE remain low. Video media is considered an effective health promotion strategy for increasing knowledge and shaping attitudes. This study aims to analyze the effect of video media on knowledge and attitudes about BSE among female students at SMA Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli. The method used in this study was quantitative with a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pretest–posttest conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli. The sample consisted of 45 female students in grades 10 and 11 selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Before the intervention, the majority of respondents had sufficient knowledge (53.3%) and attitudes (80.0%). After the intervention, all respondents (100%) had good knowledge and 97.8% had good attitudes. The Wilcoxon test results showed a p-value of 0.000 for both variables, indicating a significant effect of video media on improving female students' knowledge and attitudes about BSE. Video media has proven effective as a health promotion medium to increase awareness of young women in early breast cancer detection.
