Abstract

This article discusses the use of Thomas Kuhn's paradigm of the scientific revolution in presenting the discourse of re-syarah hadith which has been less objective in addressing the social problems of the people. The description of Kuhn's framework of thought on the revitalization of the hadith scribe is quite extensive, including the stages in providing an overview to give birth to a breakthrough in the science of hadith from the time of the companions to the rapid development of hadith in the 2nd to 3rd centuries. By starting from the questions, first, what is the framework of Thomas Kuhn's scientific revolution, second, what are the basic assumptions of the need for rewriting hadith in the current era, third, how is the application of Thomas Kuhn's scientific revolution paradigm in the discourse of rewriting hadith. The type of research used in this analysis is idea analysis with a library research approach. Typically, this research centers on two data models, namely primary data and secondary data. By applying the study of the interpretation of thought, this article can show that Thomas Kuhn's scientific revolution paradigm is a good reference in discussing the re-syarah of hadith in the present era, in addition to the discourses of re-writing hadith, this is the basis in showing that Islam through the Prophet's hadith has strong integrity to discuss the issue of contextual re-writing of hadith, because in its history Islam is full of knowledge, not only in terms of religion but also in terms of social life.[Artikel ini berbicara penggunaan paradigma revolusi ilmiah Thomas Kuhn dalam menyuguhkan wacana re-syarah ­hadis yang saat ini kegunaannya mulai tidak begitu objektif untuk menjawab persoalan sosial umat. Penggambaran kerangka berpikir Kuhn mengenai revitalisasi syarah hadis cukup ekstensif, termasuk tahapan-tahapannya dalam memberikan gambaran untuk melahirkan dobrakan baru terhadap science hadis dari mulai masa sahabat sampai perkembangan hadis yang pesat di abad-2 sampai 3 H. Dengan beranjak dari persoalan, pertama, bagaimana kerangka pemikiran Thomas Kuhn terhadap revolusi ilmiah, kedua, apa asumsi dasar perlunya re-syarah hadis pada era saat ini, ketiga, bagaimana pengaplikasian paradigma revolusi ilmiah Thomas Kuhn dalam wacana re-syarah hadis. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam analisis ini merupakan analisis gagasan dengan pendekatan kepustakaan (library research). Secara distingtif, penelitian ini berpusat pada dua model data yakni data primer dan data sekunder. Dengan menerapkan kajian interpretasi pemikiran, artikel ini mampu menunjukkan bahwa paradigma revolusi ilmiah Thomas Kuhn merupakan acuan yang besar dalam mendiskusikan re-syarah hadis di era saat ini, di samping itu memang terdapat wacana-wacana penggagasan ulang terhadap syarah hadis, ini menjadi landasan dalam menunjukkan bahwa agama Islam melalui hadis Nabi mempunyai integritas yang kuat untuk berdiskusi persoalan perombakan syarah hadis kontesktual karena dalam historinya Islam penuh dengan ilmu pengetahuan, tidak hanya dari kacamata keagamaan, namun juga dari bagian sosial kehidupan.]

Abstract

This article discusses the role of al-Hakim al-Naisaburi in canonizing the sahih of Bukhari and Muslim and introducing them to hadith scholars so that the shahihain book becomes the authoritative hadith book in Islam. The development of hadith bookkeeping was carried out during the time of the Khalilah Umar bin Abdul Aziz in the 2nd to 3rd centuries AH, but the hadith books that had been collected were still considered ordinary books in general. Starting from this problem, the author formulated three problems which became the primary discussion in this research. a) what is the role of al-Hakim al-Naisaburi in carrying out the canonization process of the book of shahihain. b) how the existence of the shahihain book can become an authoritative source of Islamic law in Islam. c) what are the basic assumptions for the need for sharah evaluation of the authentic books of Bukhari and Muslim. The type of research applied in this analysis is qualitative research using a library research approach. Specifically, this research uses interpretive-historical analysis. The results of this research show that, from here the authentic books of Bukhari and Muslim became a reference to be used as a legal basis for Islamic school scholars, then the hadith scholars made the authentic books as a standard for writing hadith books and a standard for evaluating authentic hadiths thanks to al-Hakim al-Naisaburi. Therefore, Sahih Bukhari-Muslim is the main book of the Prophet's kalam heritage which must be preserved to this day

Abstract

Patriarchal domination has marginalized women’s roles in narrating hadith and contributing to Islamic knowledge, portraying them as incomplete beings deprived of rights and a voice. This study addresses three questions: a) What were women’s contributions to hadith narration? b) Who were the notable female hadith narrators from the era of the Companions to the atbāʾ al-tābiʿīn? c) Why is it essential to redefine gender roles in hadith narration? Using a qualitative, library-based approach, this research relies on al-Kutub al-Tisʿah as the primary source, supplemented by books, articles, journals, and websites. Data analysis involves condensation, presentation, and conclusion. Findings reveal women’s significant contributions to hadith transmission during the early Islamic period, especially among the sahabah, with figures like Umm Salamah and ‘Amrah bint ‘Abd al-Raḥmān ibn Sa’ad. However, this role declined in later generations due to wars, restrictive political policies during the Umayyad era, and cultural norms limiting women’s participation in education, politics, and Islamic scholarship. Additionally, the expansion of Islamic governance and the internalization of patriarchal values further hindered female involvement in Islamic propagation. This study underscores the need to revisit and empower women’s roles in hadith narration to restore their rightful place in Islamic intellectual history.[Dominasi patriarki telah meminggirkan peran perempuan dalam periwayatan hadis dan kontribusi mereka terhadap pengetahuan Islam, menggambarkan mereka sebagai makhluk yang tidak utuh, tanpa hak dan suara yang layak. Penelitian ini membahas tiga pertanyaan utama: a) Apa kontribusi perempuan dalam periwayatan hadis? b) Siapa saja periwayat hadis perempuan yang menonjol dari masa sahabat hingga atba' al-tabi'in? c) Mengapa penting untuk mendefinisikan ulang peran gender dalam periwayatan hadis? Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berbasis studi pustaka, penelitian ini mengandalkan al-Kutub al-Tis’ah sebagai sumber utama, didukung oleh buku, artikel, jurnal, dan situs web. Analisis data dilakukan melalui proses kondensasi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kontribusi perempuan yang signifikan dalam transmisi hadis pada masa awal Islam, khususnya di kalangan sahabat, dengan tokoh-tokoh seperti Umm Salamah dan ʿAmrah bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿad. Namun, peran ini mengalami penurunan pada generasi berikutnya akibat perang, kebijakan politik yang membatasi pada era Dinasti Umayyah, dan norma budaya yang membatasi partisipasi perempuan dalam pendidikan, politik, dan keilmuan Islam. Selain itu, perluasan pemerintahan Islam dan internalisasi nilai-nilai patriarki semakin menghambat keterlibatan perempuan dalam dakwah Islam. Penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya meninjau kembali dan memberdayakan peran perempuan dalam periwayatan hadis untuk mengembalikan posisi mereka yang seharusnya dalam sejarah intelektual Islam.]

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the critical role of falsification in the interpretation of the Prophet’s hadith through the hashtag #potongkuku on the TikTok platform, with particular attention to its recommendations, user engagement, and implications for religious authority within digital environments. The research addresses an emerging phenomenon in hadith studies amid the disruption era, wherein social media has become a predominant medium for the dissemination and study of hadith. Prior to the advent of digital technology, the study of the Prophet’s hadith was primarily conducted through face-to-face learning circles in mosques and Islamic boarding schools. Currently, this process has transitioned into an online domain that is more inclusive and accessible. A notable example is the #potongkuku hashtag, which features excerpts from sermons by Habib Rifky Alaydrus and functions as a conduit for propagating hadith-based values in virtual spaces. Employing a qualitative methodology, this study utilizes content analysis techniques applied to videos and user comments associated with the #potongkuku hashtag as primary data, supplemented by relevant scholarly literature as secondary data. The findings reveal that hashtags facilitate the organization and retrieval of da‘wah themes, broaden the dissemination of hadith, and promote public participation in religious discourse. Nevertheless, the study also identifies instances of content citing hadiths without credible sources, underscoring the necessity of tabayyun (verification) and scholarly validation in the consumption of digital religious content. In sum, the #potongkuku phenomenon exemplifies a positive transformation in hadith learning and highlights the role of social media as a novel arena for the authentication and dissemination of Islamic knowledge.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis urgensi falsifikasi dalam memahami hadis Nabi melalui tagar #potongkuku di aplikasi TikTok, dengan menyoroti anjuran, respons pengguna, serta relevansinya bagi otoritas keagamaan di ruang digital. Kajian ini berangkat dari fenomena baru dalam studi hadis di era disrupsi, ketika media sosial menjadi medium utama penyebaran dan pembelajaran hadis. Sebelum kemajuan teknologi digital, masyarakat mempelajari hadis Nabi melalui majelis ilmu di masjid atau pesantren secara tatap muka. Kini, proses tersebut bertransformasi ke ranah daring yang lebih inklusif dan terbuka. Salah satu fenomena yang menonjol adalah tagar #potongkuku, yang berisi potongan ceramah Habib Rifky Alaydrus dan menjadi sarana penyebaran nilai-nilai hadis di ruang maya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik analisis konten terhadap video dan komentar pengguna dalam tagar #potongkuku sebagai data primer, sedangkan literatur ilmiah digunakan sebagai data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan tagar memudahkan pencarian dan pengelompokan tema dakwah, memperluas jangkauan penyebaran hadis, dan mendorong partisipasi publik dalam diskursus keagamaan. Namun, penelitian juga menemukan adanya konten yang mengutip hadis tanpa sumber valid, yang menegaskan pentingnya tabayyun dan verifikasi ilmiah dalam konsumsi dakwah digital. Secara keseluruhan, fenomena tagar #potongkuku mencerminkan transformasi positif dalam pembelajaran hadis dan menegaskan peran media sosial sebagai ruang baru bagi otentikasi serta diseminasi ilmu keislaman.

Abstract

Hadith studies have experienced stagnation compared to Qur’anic studies, which continue to develop with various new ideas. This stagnation is caused by the dominance of sanad analysis, debates over the status of hadith as a secondary source in Islam, and the use of certain hadiths to reject reform. One of the hadiths often cited to oppose renewal is the prohibition against lying about the Prophet Muhammad, as narrated by al-Bukhārī. This study aims to re-examine the hadith prohibiting fabricating statements about the Prophet and the hadith on renewal (tajdīd) using the philosophical hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer. This approach emphasizes the concepts of fusion of horizons and effective historical consciousness to revitalize hadith studies in the modern context. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The analysis focuses on two key hadiths: the prohibition against lying about the Prophet Muhammad (HR. al-Bukhārī No. 1291) and the hadith on tajdīd (HR. Abū Dāwūd No. 4291). The study presents two main conclusions. First, the stagnation in hadith studies results from rigid traditionalism, where hadith is primarily treated as a theological doctrine rather than an epistemological paradigm. Second, classical and modern hadith sciences have yet to fully ensure the authenticity of hadith texts exactly as intended by the Prophet. However, the prohibition against fabricating hadith implicitly demands the purification of hadith from additional narrators’ insertions. Thus, this article proposes originalization as an implicit message of HR. al-Bukhārī and an application of the tajdīd hadith from Abū Dāwūd. Originalization is expected to open new discussions in hadith studies, such as hadith revisionism, the phenomenology of memory, and the archaeology and anthropology of narrators.Abstrak: Studi hadis mengalami stagnasi jika dibandingkan dengan studi Al-Qur’an yang terus berkembang dengan berbagai gagasan baru. Stagnasi ini disebabkan oleh dominasi kajian sanad, perdebatan mengenai kedudukan hadis sebagai sumber sekunder dalam Islam, serta penggunaan hadis tertentu untuk menolak pembaruan. Salah satu hadis yang sering dijadikan dasar untuk menolak pembaruan adalah larangan berbohong atas nama Nabi Muhammad, sebagaimana diriwayatkan oleh al-Bukhārī. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah kembali hadis larangan berdusta atas nama Nabi dan hadis tentang pembaruan (tajdīd) dengan menggunakan perspektif hermeneutika filosofis Hans-Georg Gadamer. Pendekatan ini menekankan konsep fusion of horizons (penggabungan cakrawala) dan effective historical consciousness (kesadaran historis yang efektif) untuk mendinamisasi kajian hadis dalam konteks modern. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kepustakaan. Analisis dilakukan terhadap dua hadis utama: larangan berdusta atas nama Nabi Muhammad (HR. al-Bukhārī No. 1291) dan hadis tentang tajdīd (HR. Abū Dāwūd No. 4291). Penelitian ini menghasilkan dua kesimpulan utama: Pertama, stagnasi kajian hadis disebabkan tradisionalisme yang kaku dan cenderung selalu digunakan sebagai doktrin teologis bukan sebagai paradigma epistemologi. Kedua, ilmu hadis klasik dan modern belum mampu menjamin keaslian matan sepersis yang dikehendaki Nabi padahal larangan memalsukan hadis secara tersirat menuntut sterilisasi hadis dari redaksi tambahan perawi. Karena itu, artikel ini mengajukan orisinalisasi sebagai panggilan tersirat HR. Bukhari sekaligus pengamalan atas hadis tajdīd riwayat Abū Dāwūd. Orisinalisasi nantinya akan membuka wacana baru hadis, seperti revisionism hadis, fenomenologi ingatan, arkeologi dan antropologi perawi, dan lain-lain.

Abstract

The interconnectedness of verses and chapters in the Quran is an intriguing method to be studied in contemporary times. Understanding the interpretation of the Quran is continually promoted by mufassīr from era to era, making Quranic exegesis a continuously evolving product. However, the explanation of the correlation between verses and chapters in the Quran has not received primary attention from scholars. This paper elucidates the concepts of munasabah and niẓām, the differences between them, the factors underlying the emergence of surah-based Quranic exegesis, and attempts to provide examples of interpretations based on the concept of correlation between verses and chapters in the exegesis of Niẓām al-Qur’ān wa Ta’wil al-Furqān bil Furqān. This research includes a literature study (library research). Specifically, the primary data in this study refers to the book Niẓām al-Qur’ān wa Ta’wil al-Furqān bil Furqān. In this article, three issues are addressed: first, what is the focal point of the differences between munasabah and niẓām in the Quran; second, what underlies the emergence of thematic exegesis based on surahs; third, how are munasabah and niẓām implemented in the Quranic interpretation applied by al-Farāhī. This article demonstrates that Al-Farāhī's exegesis book is a reference that should be developed in this era in discussing the concepts of munāsabah and niẓām in Quranic interpretation. Considering the limited attention given by Quranic scholars to interpreting the Quran with the concepts of munāsabah and niẓām, this step becomes possible to encourage once again.
