Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of the implementation of mind mapping on learning of chemical bonding assisted with information technology toward learning outcomes of students in the Class X1 Science at SMA 1 Sindue. This study was a quasi-experiment with non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Sampling was based on special consideration (purposive sampling) with a sample of students of class X1 Science as the experimental class and class X2 Science as the control class. The instrument of this study was a test of learning outcomes. Data of the results was tested using statistical analysis of one-party t-test with prerequisite tests of normality and homogeneity tests. The data analysis obtained an average score of learning outcomes in the experimental class was 77.12 and in the control class was 67.6. Based on the hypothesis test with the t-test statistic of two parties obtained tcount of 10.89 and ttable of 1.95 at α 0.05. In this case, H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected because tcount was in the area of ​​ H0 rejection. This showed that there were differences in students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of mind mapping and conventional in learning of students in 10th grade at SMA 1 Sindue.

Abstract

The study of the determination of total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity of extract of Leucaena leucocephala leaves had been carried out using UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. This study aimed to determine the total flavonoid contents and the antioxidant power of Leucaena leucocephala extract. Extraction of chemical content from Leucaena leucocephala was carried out by the maceration method using absolute ethanol. The total flavonoid contents from the sample extract were taken up for absorption at wavelength 510 nm and 700 nm. The variation of the concentration of Leucaena leucocephala leaves' extract was respectively 20, 40, 60, and 80 ppm. The results of the study showed that the total flavonoid contents of extracts of Leucaena leucocephala leaves was 2.242 g/100 grams. The antioxidant activity of Leucaena leucocephala leaves extract was carried out using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine) and the measurement of absorption was at a wavelength of 517 nm, and by varying the sample concentration. Positive control used was vitamin C solution with the same variation of extract's concentration. The results showed that the IC50 values of Leucaena leucocephala leaves extract and vitamin C were 175.388 and 28.907 ppm. Based on the IC50 data it can be stated that the antioxidant vitamin C was stronger than the Leucaena leucocephala leaves extract which was classified as a weak type of natural antioxidant.

Abstract

Gambas fruit (Luffa acutangula L) is a cultivable plant. Gambas fruit can be used as an alternative free radical antidote. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of flavonoids in extract of gambas fruit (Luffa acutangula L) originated from Posona village of Parigi Moutong Regency. This research uses UV-Vis spectrofotometry analysis method. Flavonoids test was done by extracting the sample using 1% HCl solvent in ethanol. The result of the experiment showed that flavonoid level on the fruit of gambas (Luffa acutangula L.) was young gambas 10.60 mg/100g and old gambas 2.62 mg/100g.

Abstract

The Indian ash tree leaf (Lannea coromandelica (Houttuyn) Merrill) contains natural ingredients that can reduce blood glucose levels. This study aimed to determine the concentration of the Indian ash tree leaf extract which is the most effective to reduce blood sugar levels of mice. The leaf sample of the Indian ash tree plant was obtained from Talise sub-district, Mantikulore district, Palu, Central Sulawesi. The preparation of the extract was conducted by the maceration method. The animal testing used were 20 male mice that were induced by EDTA (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid). Mice were divided into 5 groups as random with different treatments. Treatments I, II, and III were given an extract of 10, 20, and 40%, respectively, treatment IV was given Na-CMC as a negative control (-), and treatment V was given glibenclamide suspension as a positive control (+). The data obtained were analyzed by statistical analysis of variance analysis (ANOVA) and were continued by the Duncan test. The results showed that the Indian ash tree leaf extract can reduce the blood sugar levels of mice. The mean decreased blood glucose level at treatment I was 40.00 mg/dL, treatment II was 47.75 mg/dL, treatment III was 54.75 mg/dL, treatment IV was 1.75 mg/dL, and treatment V was 49.00 mg/dL. The conclusion of this research was that the Indian ash tree leaf extract could reduce the blood sugar level of mice with an effective concentration of 20% with α = 0.05.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the differences of chemistry learning outcome through the implementation of scramble type of cooperative learning model and think-talk-write (TTW) type in teaching atomic structure at class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Selatan. This research was a quasi-experiment with a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. It was conducted by arranging two groups in which class XI Natural Science 1 as experimental group 1 (n = 21) and class XI Natural Science 2 as experimental group 2 (n = 20). The data of the research were analyzed using a one-party t-test statistic with the prerequisite test, normality test, and homogeneity. The result of data analysis obtained, X̅1 value of chemistry learning on the students of experimental class 1 was 79.86 (SD = 7.15), whereas in the experimental class 2 students X̅2 value was 73.95 (SD = 8. 26). The result of hypothesis testing was obtained t > t1 - α was 2.55> 1.68 with significant level (α = 0.05) and degrees of freedom = 42. This showed that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted so that it can be concluded that there were differences in chemistry learning outcome through the implementation of scramble type of cooperative learning model and think-talk-write (TTW) type in teaching atomic structure at class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Selatan.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of the guided inquiry learning model assisted by two stay two stray toward learning outcomes of students on chemistry at SMA 7 Palu. The type of study was Pre-experimental with a one-shot case study design. The sample was prepared using the purposive sampling technique with a sample consisting of Class XI Science 4 as the experimental class 1, and Class XI Science 2 as the experimental class 2. Both classes consisted of 28 students. The research instruments were the learning outcomes tests, student worksheets, and observation sheets that have been validated theoretically and empirically. Data of learning outcomes was analyzed using inferential statistical analysis with a prerequisite test: normality, homogeneity, and t-test hypothesis test (right side). The results showed that the average learning outcomes for experimental class 1 was 62.32, and for experimental class 2 was 50.29, with standard deviations of 12.58 and 12.05, respectively. Hypothesis test obtained tcount>ttable or 4.04 > 1.67, so H1 is accepted. The average learning outcomes of students in the experimental class 1 with guided inquiry learning model assisted by two stay two stray is higher than in the experimental class 2 with a guided inquiry learning model. Guided inquiry learning model assisted by two stay two stray influences learning outcomes of students at SMA 7 Palu.

Abstract

Candlenut (Aleurites moluccana) shell is a waste produced from the processing of the plants having a fairly hard texture. This study aimed to determine the optimum weight and contact time for the candlenut activated carbon which can absorb lead metal in used oil. Analysis of lead levels was carried out using atomic absorption spectropometry (AAS). Determination of the optimum weight and contact time of activated charcoal was carried out on various weight of 3 g, 6 g, and 9 g, as well as various times of 1, 2, and 3 hours, respectively. The results show that the optimum weight and contact time of activated charcoal are 9 g for 3 h with the percentage of lead concentration absorbed of 90.716%.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the concentration effect of skin extract in watermelon on the inhibition of corrosion rates of iron nails in the corrosive medium of NaCl solution and seawater as a comparison. The study began with the first maceration of the skin in watermelon and then followed by evaporation to produce extracts specific gravity 0,097 gram/mL as inhibitors with variations in concentrations of 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16%. The method of determining the corrosion rate used was the weight loss method from the 7-day immersion process. The results showed that the greatest corrosion inhibition efficiency occurred at a concentration of 8% for immersion with 3% NaCl corrosive medium and 4% concentration for immersion in seawater with the efficiency of 11.56% and 22.15%, respectively. Based on the results of the study, it was found that each addition of extract in watermelon can affect the effectiveness of inhibition.

Abstract

Antioxidant activity test of Ethanol Extract of Ripe and Young Cocoa Pod Skin (Theobroma Cacao L.) with DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) using UV-Vis spectrophotometer has been carried out. This study aimed to determine the IC50 value of the ethanol extract of ripe cocoa pods and young cocoa pods (Theobroma Cacao L.). The mature and young cocoa pods were extracted using absolute ethanol solvent and tested for their antioxidant activity using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). The concentration variations used in the ethanol extract of ripe cocoa pods and young cocoa (Theobroma Cacao L.) were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, and 80 ppm. The results showed that the IC50 values of the ethanol extract of ripe and young cocoa pods were 76.094 ppm and 91.884 ppm, respectively. Meanwhile, the IC50 value of vitamin C compared was 63.519 ppm. Based on the IC50 value data above, it can be seen that the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of young cocoa pods and ripe cocoa pods are potent antioxidants.

Abstract

Patchouli ( pogostemon cablin benth ) is one of the essential oil producing plants which are quite important, known as Oil Patchouly. This oil pick strategic potential in the world market which is used as a binder fragrance in perfumes, cosmetics, pharmaceutical industry, and other industries. Buol which aims to determine the quality of patchouli oil. Samples is patchouli oil yield Buol. Parameters in meticulous ie specific gravity, refractive index, acid Numbers, Numbers Esther, and Solubility in Alcohol. The technique used is the technique of sampling area. The results showed that the Weighted Value Type 25oC / 25°C for samples A = 0.997 to 1.000, B = 0.962 to 0.965, C = 0.995 to 0.998 D = 0.980 to 0.983, and E = 0.968 - 0.971. To value Bias Index ( nD20 ) ie sample A = 1.45505 to 1.45705, B = 1.45506 to 1.45706, C = 1.45504 to 1.45704, D = 1.45503 to 1.45703, and E = 1.45523 to 1.45723. Numbers for acid sample value A = 2.805, B = 3.366, C = 2.5245, D = 3.0855 and E = 3.6465. For esther numbers are sample values A = 15.4275, B = 5.61, C = 12.6225, D = 4.2075 and E = 19.635. And last is the determination of solubility in alcohol that sample A = 1 : 2, B = 1 : 1.7, C = 1 : 0.9, D = 1 : 1, and E = 1 : 3. These data show patchouli oil production Buol area has good quality in terms of acid value, ester number and solubility in alcohol is the average Indonesian National Standards meet the standards and ISO. While the specific gravity and refractive index still does not meet the Indonesian National Standard and ISO.
