Abstract

This study is part of a development of problem solving learning model with aspects of ontology, epistemology, and axiology (Model PS-TRILOGI) to improve critical thinking skills and student understanding of Thermochemistry concepts. These objectives can be achieved if the model PS-TRILOGI is valid, practical, and effective. The study design followed the Research and Development. The effectiveness of the model PS-TRILOGI assessed by observers and implemented through the instrument test critical thinking skills and understanding of Thermochemistry concepts at 33 students in Chemistry Education Studies of Tadulako University. The results obtained showed that the percentage of positive responses given by students is very high due sense of excitement, novelty, interest, and support learning media are respectively 94.95%; 90.91%; 90.91% and 96.97%. Indicators that measure critical thinking skills is the interpretation, analysis, inference, and self-regulation. N-gain value for the indicator interpretation, analysis, and self-regulation in middle category of 0.5; while indicators inference at the high category of 0.7. Understanding of the Thermochemistry concept 13 students has a value n-gain of 0.8 to a high category. Based on the results obtained show that the model PS-TRILOGI is effective.

Abstract

The study of the effect of cooperative learning model two stay two stray types on motivation and learning outcomes of the fifth-grade students of SDN15 Palu was carried out from March to June 2018. This study used quasi-experimental methods. The research design used the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and test results. The data analysis technique used the t-test inferential statistical method. The study population was fifth-grade students of SDN15 Palu. The sample of the research was Va class with as many as 29 people as the experimental group and Vb class with 28 people as the control group, which was determined by purposive sampling technique. The independent variable in this study was the TSTS model, while the dependent variable was a motivation and learning outcomes. Based on hypothesis testing with two-party t-test statistics obtained students learning motivation with t count was higher than t table (7.876 > 2.004). Student learning outcomes obtained tcount higher than t table (3.654 > 2.004). These results indicated that the application of cooperative learning model two stay two stray type influences the motivation and learning outcomes of the science of the fifth-grade students of SDN 15 Palu.

Abstract

Phaleria macrocarpa contains secondary metabolite compounds such as alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, polyphenols, tannins, sterols, and coumarins. Those metabolites are antioxidants and can be efficacious in the healing of various degenerative diseases such as cervical cancer and diabetes. This plant is widely grown in Tindaki Village, Parigi Mautong, Central Sulawesi. The aim of this study was to determine the antioxidant power of those phaleria macrocarpa fruit extract. This study was conducted by using maceration extraction technique with ethanol as solvent, and compound 2,2-difenil-1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH) as source of free radical, and vitamin C as the positive control. The UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance of the extract. Various concentrations of the extract used were 5 ppm, 15 ppm, 25 ppm, and 35 ppm. The results showed that the IC50 value of the fruit extract was 28.242 ppm, while the IC50 value of vitamin C was 19.302 ppm. These IC50 values show that vitamin C was a stronger antioxidant activity than the fruit extract, but the fruit extract was still as a very strong natural antioxidant category.

Abstract

Application of learning model is expected to build good communication between students with teachers and students with students in an effort to improve understanding of a concept. This study aimed to determine the differences in the learning outcomes of chemistry through cooperative learning model type make a match and numbered head together in the material of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solution of students class X SMA Negeri 9 Palu. This type of research was pre-experimental with the static group pretest-posttest design. The sample used in this research was the students of class Xa (n = 23) as the first experiment 1 and students of class Xb (n = 23) as the second experiment 2 with. The result of data analysis obtained, the mean value of the experiment class 1 was 74.24 and in the experiment class 2 was 67.28. The result of hypothesis testing with t-test statistic on two side was obtained - ttable ≤ tcount ³ + ttable that was (-1.68 <3.27> +1.68 with significant level (α = 0.05) and degrees of freedom = 44. This indicates that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted so that it can be concluded that there are differences in the students’ learning outcomes of chemistry through cooperative learning model type make a match and numbered head together in the material of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solution of class X SMA Negeri 9 Palu.

Abstract

Misconception is a conception of someone who is not in accordance with the scientific concept recognized by experts. Student’s who experience misconceptions will make mistakes in understanding concept’s and occur continuously. This study aimed to determine the percentage of reduction of students’ misconception in grade XI SMA 1 Palasa on salt hydrolysis by implementing contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach. This study was a quantitative descriptive study with the number of samples of 2 classes, that’s Class XI Science A consisted of 22 students, and Class XI Science B consisted of 22 students. The instrument test was a reasoned multiple choice test accompanied by a certainty of response index (CRI) consisting of 20 items. The results showed that the percentages of the average reduction of students’ misconceptions in the class XI science A and in the class XI science B on salt hydrolysis with contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach were 19.6 and 9.8%, respectively.
