Abstract

The Nyadran tradition has become an important part of the life of the Javanese transmigrant community. Through the Nyadran tradition, Javanese transmigrant women can establish relationships, both with God, with nature as their place of residence, and with fellow human beings. By using the concept of Gender as an analytical tool, this study aims to see how the Nyadran tradition rituals are carried out by the Javanese transmigrant community, and to see how the role of women is in the Nyadran tradition rituals. In this study used a qualitative-descriptive method with unstructured interview data collection techniques. Data collection was also carried out by tracing the literature on the Nyadran tradition, both in the form of books and journal articles. The results showed that the Nyadran tradition was carried out by the Javanese transmigrant community every year, 10 days before the arrival of the month of Ramadan. This tradition is carried out by visiting the tombs or visiting the graves of the ancestors, tahlilan, listening to religious lectures, and feasting or eating together. In practice, women's roles are still found in the domestic sphere. Starting from providing various types of flowers and water, bringing yasin books and mats, and preparing ubarampe or various types of cakes and rice along with side dishes. Women are also subordinated by not being given the opportunity to deliver religious lectures. Through the delivery of religious interpretations, women are also subordinated and become a form of stereotype and shows that the patriarchal culture is still strong in the Javanese transmigrant community.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the dominance of men in Jambi Malay wedding customs in Teluk Kuali Village. In the kinship system, the people of Teluk Kuali have a tendency towards the matrilineal tradition, in which the lineage is based on the mother's line. In this study a qualitative-descriptive method was used with unstructured interview data collection techniques and conducting a search of the literature relating to Jambi Malay wedding customs and the like. Both in the form of books and journal articles. The results of this study indicate that in almost every Jambi Malay traditional wedding ceremony in Teluk Kuali Village, men dominate. The wedding rites of Teluk Kuali Village are mostly negotiations for decision making which are mostly attended by men. Even though the people of Teluk Kuali hold a matrilineal tradition, in practice women are not represented in every decision-making of traditional marriage rites. Women are indirectly marginalized from adat and from women themselves.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the impacts caused by the land conversion that occurred in Tebo Regency from rubber plantations to oil palm plantations. Ecological Feminism is used as an analytical tool to see how women are marginalized from nature and how the opening of oil palm plantations has an impact on ecological diversity and women's lives. In this research, a descriptive-analytical qualitative method was used where data collection was carried out by observing and exploring literature related to the impact of oil palm plantations, women's poverty, and women's relationship with nature. The findings in this research are that women are marginalized from nature, nature from nature, and women from economic access by the conversion of land from rubber plantations to oil palm plantations. The marginalization of women in accessing land, returns them to the domestic sphere. This also causes environmental damage to get worse, so that directly or indirectly it is a form of empowerment of women. They have difficulty obtaining fuel/firewood, clean water, and diversity is reduced .

Abstract

Women in the Batanghari watershed experienced changes and lost their livelihoods due to conversion of plantation. Women worked in rubber plantations and agriculture and had to stop working altogether, or worked in plantation companies as daily laborers. Land conversion did not only change the pattern of livelihoods, but also changed the way of life of women. Some women even encouraged their husbands and sons to mine gold in the river to provide for the family. This research was conducted in two villages; Teluk Kuali and Melako Intan were opposite and separated by the Batanghari River. This research aimed to answer the question whether women in the two villages had knowledge about the climate crisis, and how rural women respond to the ongoing climate crisis. In collecting data, this research used interview techniques and direct observation. Ecofeminism is used to analyze this research.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the modernization that occurred in Saudi Arabia under the leadership of Muhammad bin Salman. The modernization of Saudi Arabia in the era of Muhammad bin Salman became important for Muhammad bin Salman's political attitude, which tended to be open to foreign cultures and move away from Wahhabism values that had been ingrained in Saudi Arabian culture. To support the analysis in the research, this article uses a historical approach and modernization theory. Through this approach and theory, this research is not only narrative-descriptive but more analytical-descriptive. The findings in this research are that the Wahhabism doctrine that developed in Saudi Arabia had a major impact not only on socio-religious aspects but also on political aspects. Through the Saudi royal authorities and Wahhabi clerics, everything that is not in accordance with the values of Wahhabism will be considered wrong and outside the pure teachings of Islam. This condition lasted until the end of King Salman's time and changed during the time of Muhammad bin Salman due to the modernity implemented in the Arab Vision 2030.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji modernisasi yang terjadi di Arab Saudi di bawah kepemimpinan Muhammad bin Salman.
