Abstract

In an era characterized by an overwhelming abundance of information and media channels, the concept of truth and reality has become increasingly complex. Media literacy, the ability to critically analyse, evaluate, and understand media messages, plays a crucial role in navigating this complexity. This paper explores the philosophical dimensions of media literacy and its implications for the understanding of truth and reality. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from philosophy, communication studies, and cognitive science, this study investigates the intricate relationship between media literacy and the construction of truth and reality. By delving into various philosophical frameworks, including epistemology, ontology, and phenomenology, the research examined how individuals' media literacy skills shape their perceptions and interpretations of truth and reality. Additionally, the study examines how media literacy influences individuals' ontological understanding of reality. It explores how media messages shape and mediate individuals' perception of the world, examining the interplay between subjective experiences, social constructs, and media representations. Furthermore, the study investigated the potential for media literacy to foster a more nuanced understanding of reality, encouraging individuals to engage in critical reflexivity and challenge their preconceived notions. The findings of this study showed that media literacy plays a pivotal role in enhancing critical thinking skills and mitigating truth distortion in a post-truth society.

Abstract

This conceptual research explores the transformative potential of digital learning platforms in the realm of behaviour change communication within the context of public health education. With the rapid advancement of digital technology, the traditional methods of health communication are being reimagined, offering new opportunities and challenges for promoting healthier behaviours and lifestyles. The research seeks to understand the evolving landscape of digital learning platforms and their integration into public health education programs. It investigates how these platforms can be leveraged to design and disseminate behaviour change communication interventions effectively. The study examines the theoretical foundations that underpin behaviour change communication and the ways in which digital learning platforms can enhance these foundations. Furthermore, the research addresses the critical issue of accessibility and inclusivity, as digital platforms have the potential to bridge the gap between diverse populations in terms of health literacy, socio-economic status, and geographical location. By employing a conceptual framework that combines elements of health communication theory, pedagogy, and technology adoption models, this study aims to provide insights into the effective utilization of digital learning platforms for behaviour change communication. Findings indicate that the use of digital learning platforms has led to increase engagement in public health education. This exploration is expected to shed light on the potential of these platforms to drive positive health behaviour change among diverse populations and pave the way for more informed strategies in the field of public health education. Ultimately, this research aims to encourage further exploration and development of digital learning tools for behaviour change communication in public health, with the potential to make a significant impact on global health outcomes.

Abstract

This paper delved into the intricate relationship between educational interventions and communication strategies in the context of fostering significant behaviour change. With a focus on comprehensive exploration, the investigation aimed to uncover the synergistic effects of these two key components in influencing individuals' behaviours positively. Through an extensive literature review, various educational interventions and communication strategies were identified, ranging from traditional didactic methods to innovative technology-driven approaches. The study explored how these interventions were strategically communicated to target audiences across diverse settings, including healthcare, education, and environmental conservation. The study underscores the pivotal role of effective communication strategies as a catalyst for enhancing the impact of educational interventions on behaviour change. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the interplay between these two components and offer valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to design and implement comprehensive behaviour change initiatives.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the Knowledge, Attitude, and Perception (KAP) of farmers in Uyo regarding broadcast media reports on soil contamination. A survey sample of 384 respondents took part in the study. The research assessed the level of awareness among farmers concerning soil contamination as conveyed through broadcast media, as well as their attitudes towards such information and overall perceptions of the issue. Findings showed that Uyo farmers were familiar with the concept of soil contamination. This suggests that the majority of them have been exposed to information about soil contamination through mass media sources. Broadcast media reports on soil contamination provide accurate and reliable information to farmers. Uyo farmers rated broadcast media source of information about soil contamination and agricultural practices as trustworthy. The study recommended that broadcast media reports should be presented in the local language(s) spoken by Uyo farmers and should be tailored to their cultural context. This approach enhances comprehension and receptiveness, fostering a deeper understanding of soil contamination issues and solutions.
