Abstract

This paper delved into the intricate relationship between educational interventions and communication strategies in the context of fostering significant behaviour change. With a focus on comprehensive exploration, the investigation aimed to uncover the synergistic effects of these two key components in influencing individuals' behaviours positively. Through an extensive literature review, various educational interventions and communication strategies were identified, ranging from traditional didactic methods to innovative technology-driven approaches. The study explored how these interventions were strategically communicated to target audiences across diverse settings, including healthcare, education, and environmental conservation. The study underscores the pivotal role of effective communication strategies as a catalyst for enhancing the impact of educational interventions on behaviour change. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the interplay between these two components and offer valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to design and implement comprehensive behaviour change initiatives.

Abstract

This study explores the morphological process in the Javanese language where numerical phrases are transformed into verbs through the addition of the prefix "N-." This process is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also deeply rooted in Javanese culture and socio-religious practices. The urgency of this study lies in documenting and analysing how these transformations reflect cultural traditions, particularly the ceremonial practices observed after specific days following someone's death, such as the third, seventh, fortieth, one hundredth, and one-thousandth days. A review of previous studies shows a lack of focus on the intersection of language, culture, and religion in the transformation of numerical phrases into verbs. This study fills this gap by examining the specific phrases "telung dina" (three days), "pitung dina" (seven days), "patang puluh dina" (forty days), "satus" (one hundred), and "sewu" (one thousand), which are culturally significant in Javanese rituals, and their transformation into verbs such as "nelung dina," "mitung dina," "matang puluh dina," "nyatus," and "nyewu." The analysis demonstrates that the prefix "N-" not only verbalizes these phrases but also embodies the cultural significance of the corresponding periods, turning static expressions into action-oriented verbs that imply ceremonial activities. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of this morphological process in understanding how the Javanese language encapsulates cultural values and practices, offering new insights into the relationship between language, culture, and religion in Austronesian linguistics.

Abstract

This study goes into the rich idioms of the Indonesian language related to learning, specifically focusing on "mencari ilmu" (searching for knowledge), "menuntut ilmu" (demanding knowledge), "menimba ilmu" (drawing water of knowledge), and "menggali ilmu" (unearthing knowledge). These terms provide nuanced perspectives on the nature of active learning in Indonesian culture. The study aims to (1) Analyse the literal and figurative meanings of each term within the context of active learning. (2) Explore how these terms reflect different stages and approaches to the learning process. (3) Highlight the values and principles embedded within each term that contribute to effective learning. The study employs a document analysis approach, meticulously examining existing literature and scholarly works on Indonesian language, education, and cultural values. Additionally, the author, as a native Indonesian speaker, utilizes introspection to provide in-depth insights and personal interpretations of the terms. The analysis reveals subtle differences in meaning and emphasis between the terms, showcasing the multifaceted nature of active learning. Each term illuminates a specific aspect of the learner's role, from the initial spark of curiosity to the dedicated pursuit of knowledge, the patient extraction of established information, and the adventurous exploration of uncharted territories. The study concludes that these Indonesian idioms offer valuable lessons for active learning beyond cultural boundaries. They emphasize the importance of curiosity, determination, effort, and independent exploration in the pursuit of knowledge. Cultivating an active learning mindset empowered by these principles can pave the way for individuals to become lifelong learners and contribute meaningfully to society.
