Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model on the mathematical communication skills of elementary school students. This study uses a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest group design.  The population of this study is all students at SDN Gudang Kopi Sumedang, while the sample of this study is 31 students taken by cluster random sampling technique. Data is collected through written tests and observations during the learning process. The data produced was analyzed in a qualitative descriptive manner. The results showed that students' mathematical communication skills improved after learning with the TPS model. The average pretest score was 54.8, which increased to 80.3 in the posttest, with a gain value of 0.67, categorized as moderate. Observations also indicated that students were more active when working individually, discussing with a partner, and sharing discussion results in front of the class. In conclusion, the TPS learning model was proven effective in enhancing students' mathematical communication skills. This model can be an option for teachers to create interactive learning and actively engage students, particularly in mathematics learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability to solve mathematical problems in integer operation materials. This qualitative descriptive research involved 27 students of grade VI B SD Taman Kalijaga Permai who were selected based on the results of the mathematics problem-solving ability test and teacher consideration. The research instruments used included problem-solving skills tests and interviews. Data analysis uses Miles and Huberman's interactive model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results showed that students in the high category consisting of 5 out of 5 students (100%) could understand and determine the information in the problem well. Then, students with moderate problem solving ability 8 out of 14 (57%) used a complete presentation of information while 6 out of 14 (43%) only wrote the final calculation and low category students consisting of 3 out of 8 students (37.5%) did not write down the solution information in detail and 5 out of 8 students (62.5%) explained the calculation steps but there were still errors in the operation of negative signs or inaccuracy of numbers. Based on these data, it shows that the problem solving ability of grade VI students of SD Taman Kalijaga Permai has varying abilities, depending on the level of ability of each student but can solve problems correctly and provide conclusions for each problem worked out

Abstract

The research was conducted based on the high level of math anxiety among students in mathematics learning, which affects their learning outcomes. Therefore, efforts need to be made to reduce students' math anxiety levels by using game-based learning. This research is quantitative research using a quasi-experimental research method with a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study was SDN Surian District, Sumedang City, with sampling using purposive sampling of fifth-grade students at SDN Pari and SDN Surian who had high math anxiety. Data analysis techniques included normality tests, nonparametric tests (Mann-Whitney test & Kendall tau test). The results of the study indicate that game-based learning can reduce students' math anxiety levels, and there is a correlation between the reduction in students' math anxiety and their mathematics learning outcomes, particularly in the fractions material. Additionally, there is a difference between the learning outcomes of students using the game-based learning method and those using the conventional learning method.
