Abstract

Background: Anemia and hypertension during pregnancy are significant public health challenges, particularly in developing countries, as they are associated with increased risks of maternal and fetal complications, such as preeclampsia and stunting. Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaves have been identified as a promising nutritional intervention due to their high iron and antioxidant content, which may contribute to improved hemoglobin levels and reduced blood pressure. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Moringa leaf juice in enhancing hemoglobin levels and reducing blood pressure among pregnant women with anemia and hypertension. Methods: This research employed an experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 48 pregnant women with anemia and hypertension in the Aglomerasi region of Palu were selected using consecutive sampling. The study was conducted from January to April 2024 in Guntarano Village and Bale Village, Donggala Regency, as well as South Tinggede Village, Sigi Regency. Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests. Results: The findings revealed a significant increase in mean hemoglobin levels, from 9.77 g/dL to 10.25 g/dL (p < 0.001). Similarly, systolic blood pressure showed a significant reduction, decreasing from 141.72 mmHg to 131.52 mmHg (p < 0.001), while diastolic blood pressure also declined significantly, from 91.12 mmHg to 86.30 mmHg (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Moringa leaf juice is effective in increasing hemoglobin levels and reducing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in pregnant women with anemia and hypertension. It is recommended that Moringa juice be considered as an alternative nutritional intervention to improve maternal health outcomes, particularly in resource-limited settings. Abstract

Introduction: The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia remained high at approximately 7,389 deaths in 2021, attributed to several factors. One significant factor was prolonged labor caused by uterine contraction abnormalities due to disrupted oxytocin hormone secretion resulting from increased stress responses, thereby highlighting the importance of the presence of a birth companion. Objective: This research aimed to know the influence of birth companions on labor duration. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design and was conducted within the working area of the Public Health Center in Palu City, Central Sulawesi, from January to June 2024. The sample comprised 50 postpartum mothers. Data were collected using observation sheets, processed using SPSS, and analyzed with the Chi-square test. Results: The results indicated no significant relationship between the mother's choice of birth companion and the duration of labor, with a p-value > 0.05 (p-value = 0.642). However, 60% of mothers in labor chose their husband as their birth companion. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship found in this study's variables due to the limited knowledge possessed by birth attendants, which resulted in suboptimal task performance. It is recommended that future researchers conduct studies focusing on improving the knowledge of birth attendants or exploring other variables that influence labor progress.

Abstract

Adolescent health services remain a concern in Central Sulawesi due to low adolescent participation in adolescent posyandu (community health posts for adolescents). This community service activity aims to empower youth health cadres to increase participation in the implementation of youth health posts in Tanambulawa Subdistrict, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. The intervention comprised training and the implementation of adolescent posyandu. Evaluation employed a pretest–posttest design for the cadres and monitoring of posyandu activities. The program was conducted in February–March 2024. Twenty-five cadres participated in the training, and 17 adolescents attended the posyandu. The average knowledge score increased from 6.04 (pretest) to 8.32 (posttest). The adolescent posyandu was held on 8 March 2024 in Sibalaya Selatan Village. In conclusion, the training improved cadres’ knowledge about adolescent posyandu and adolescent anemia, and the posyandu activities were successfully implemented. It is recommended that adolescent program coordinators and cadres intensify outreach to adolescents and parents regarding the importance of adolescent posyandu.
