Abstract

Appropriate technology has simple principles that aim to improve the socio-economic standard of living for the community by processing natural resources wisely and not damaging the surrounding environment. Natural resources in the surrounding environment are easy to find, especially Medicinal Plants. Medicinal Plants are widely found and consumed, one of which is ginger (Zingibers officinale rosc). Various groups, including children, can consume ginger. However, children's interest in consuming ginger or ginger ale is very low. The aim of this activity is to teach students how to make instant ginger powder so they can increase their interest in consuming ginger and other traditional medicinal plants. Activities were carried out using the service learning method for students at SDN 4 Jepang. Implementation of activities includes education, assistance, and training in making instant ginger powder. The implementation of activities is well done and smoothly. Students who participated in the activities were very enthusiastic and interested. All students participated in making instant powder starting from peeling ginger, grinding ginger, squeezing ginger juice, pressing ginger to mixing ginger into crystals/powder.

Abstract

Herbal medicine is one of Indonesia's cultural heritages that still survives and remains preserved. This healthy drink, originally made in Indonesia, is the people's choice. Jamu, as a herbal medicine that people have consumed for hundreds of years, needs to be labeled with a name for various purposes, such as people knowing the names of herbal medicine plants and at the same time people are aware of the biodiversity in the form of plants around them that have properties that are good for our bodies. Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) can be used to make herbal medicine. This activity aims to introduce the cultivation of drinking herbal medicine as an implementation of the National Movement for getting fit with herbal medicine at SLB Purwosari Kudus. The results of the counseling can be seen from the increase in knowledge about herbal medicine as seen from the way the Purwosari Kudus SLB students answered with enthusiasm and interest in herbal medicine as traditional medicine.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, with the increasing prevalence of cases every year. One of the key methods of controlling the spread of DHF is to target the vector, Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, by eradicating their larvae. However, the widespread and continuous use of chemical larvicides has raised concerns regarding the development of mosquito resistance and environmental pollution. This community service activity aimed to provide students at Duta Karya Vocational High School with knowledge and practical skills to use natural, eco-friendly alternatives for controlling mosquito larvae, focusing on papaya seeds (Carica papaya) and alum as natural larvicides. The methods for this activity included interactive counseling, a demonstration on how to produce larvicides using papaya seeds and alum, and an engaging question-and-answer session. Thirty 12th-grade students from the Pharmacy class participated in this activity. The results revealed that the activity was highly effective in increasing the students' understanding and practical ability to independently create and apply natural larvicides. The students expressed a high level of enthusiasm and interest in the topic, actively participating in the discussions and demonstrations. As a result of this community service, the school has expressed interest in incorporating this activity into its School Health Unit (UKS) work program, which will further promote the use of natural, sustainable methods for controlling mosquito populations. The students, now equipped with the necessary skills, are ready to become "jumantik" cadres—community health volunteers responsible for monitoring and preventing mosquito larvae development. This initiative also raised awareness about utilizing organic waste, such as papaya seeds, to create valuable products for the prevention of DHF.
