Diarrhea is a condition in which a person defecates with a soft or runny consistency, it can even be water alone and the frequency is more frequent (usually three or more times) in one day. One of the beneficial plants is the Moringa oleifera Lam. Plant. Flavonoids, tannins and steroids in Moringa leaves are thought to be anti-diarrhea. This study aims to determine the antidiarrheal activity of the ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera Lam. Leaves against male white mice (Mus musculus) induced by Oleum ricini. Observations were made for 3 hours. This research is an experimental study divided into 6 groups, namely the normal group, positive control (Loperamid HCl), negative control (Na CMC), and ethanol extract of moringa leaves at a dose of 200 mg / KgBB, 400 Mg / KgBB and 800 mg / KgBB. Numeric data were processed using SPSS with One Way ANOVA test. The results showed that the optimal dose was 200 mg / KgBW in the ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera Lam. Leaves as an antidiarrheal in male white mice (Mus musculus) induced by Oleum ricini.

Abstract

Jamu, Indonesia's traditional herbal medicine, holds significant cultural and medicinal value. However, the adulteration of jamu with undeclared synthetic drugs like dexamethasone and paracetamol poses a severe public health risk. This study aimed to qualitatively identify these drugs in jamu products circulating in Kudus City, Indonesia. Ten jamu samples, representing various brands and forms (powder, capsules), were purchased from local depots in Kudus. Samples were selected based on their indication for pain relief or anti-inflammatory properties, lack of BPOM (Indonesia's Food and Drug Authority) registration, or discrepancies between the registration number on the packaging and the BPOM database. Organoleptic analysis (odor, taste, color, form) was performed, followed by microscopic analysis to identify natural ingredients using their characteristic fragments. Finally, infrared spectroscopy was employed to detect the presence of dexamethasone and paracetamol. Nine out of ten samples displayed BPOM registration numbers that were not verifiable in the official BPOM database, while one sample lacked any registration number. Organoleptic analysis revealed that six samples exhibited distinct herbal odors, often associated with bitter-tasting jamu. Microscopic analysis confirmed the presence of 1-4 natural ingredients in each sample. Notably, infrared spectroscopy identified paracetamol in one sample. In conclusion, the study revealed a concerning trend of unregistered jamu products and adulteration with undeclared paracetamol in Kudus City. This highlights the need for stricter regulatory measures, enhanced surveillance, and public awareness campaigns to ensure the safety and efficacy of jamu.

Abstract

Stunting was growth failure in children caused by chronic malnutrition or infectious disease, resulting in impaired physical and cognitive growth. This community service suggests using Moringa oleifera leaves to prevent stunting by making pudding. Moringa leaves are famous for their high nutritional value, containing vitamins A, C, and E and minerals such as calcium, iron, and protein. This community service program aims to increase the skills and knowledge of the community, especially pregnant women, in making Moringa leaf pudding and the importance of improving nutrition in pregnant women. The method used was descriptive, lecture, discussion and direct practice in making Moringa leaf pudding with village midwives, pregnant women at the posyandu in Loram Wetan Kudus village. The results of this community service activity can be seen from the increase in participants' knowledge and ability to make Moringa leaf pudding correctly according to the instructions that have been given previously. This community service activity concludes that participants can make Moringa leaf pudding independently and increase pregnant women's knowledge about the benefits of Moringa leaves, which are rich in nutrients and can be used to improve nutritional status to reduce the incidence of stunting.

Abstract

Improper storage and disposal of medications at home can reduce drug quality, pose risks of poisoning, and contribute to environmental pollution. However, public knowledge remains low, as only 16.1% of respondents demonstrated good understanding of proper storage, and 52.6% lacked awareness of safe disposal methods. Education is considered a key factor in improving health literacy related to medication management. This study aimed to examine the relationship between educational level and knowledge of medication storage and disposal among outpatients at RSI Sunan Kudus. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach, involving 392 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and Spearman Rank correlation. The majority of respondents were female (71.4%), aged 26–45 years (47.2%), had a senior high school/vocational education (53.8%), and were employed in the private sector (56.9%). Most respondents had moderate knowledge regarding storage (55.4%) and disposal (44.6%) of medications. A significant relationship was found between education level and knowledge of both storage (r = 0.532; p < 0.001) and disposal (r = 0.610; p < 0.001). More intensive education by pharmaceutical staff is recommended.
