Abstract

This paper reports students’ involvement in a classroom project, called extended writing project (EWP), to help undergraduate students write their first essay. The EWP aimed at encouraging the students to work collaboratively with their peers and teacher, give and respond to feedbacks, and work independently outside the classroom. During the process of EWP, we equipped the students with a mini book to help them record the whole activities and monitor their progress. We involved 20 first year undergraduate students enrolled in a writing course, which was a compulsory course to prepare the students for writing their research project and thesis in the final year of their degree program. We used several instruments such as pre-posttest to know the students’ writing improvement, open-ended questionnaire to obtain their perceptions toward the EWP, the mini book to obtain a comprehensive understanding on the students’ activities including kinds of feedbacks provided by their peers, and an informal interview to know how they dealt with the feedbacks. The results indicated that EWP positively affected the students’ writing skill. Furthermore, in term of writing components (fluency, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and content), EWP was able to improve all those aspects but spelling. The open-ended questions informed that the students felt that EWP was able to increase their confidence and motivation to write. The redundancy of writing draft, however, exhausted them all the time.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of a availability of teaching materials at SDN Durbuk 1 especially in learning IPAS, so that it becomes one of the obstacles for teachers in the learning process. In this case, digital technology has a positive impact on overcoming the limitations of these teaching materials through interactive magazines. This study aims to develop an interactive magazine on the diversity of Pamekasan culture based on local wisdom that can support learning activities. This study used a research and development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. The subjects of this study were grade IV students of SDN Durbuk 1. The data collection techniques used were through interviews, observation, and questionnaries to determine the effectiveness of the magazine product. The results by learning material experts obtaining a score of 92%, learning media experts obtaining a score of 96%, and language experts with a score of 94% and the product trial were obtained from the results of student responses obtaining a score 98% with a very good category. Based on the results of the data analysis, the cultural diversity magazine is very suitable for use in the learning process.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model with boy-boyan games in improving the English learning outcomes of class I students at SDN Rang Perang Laok. This research is quantitative research with the type of research used as Quasi-Experimental Design, Nonequivalent Control Group Design type. Sampling used the Cluster Sampling technique with a population of 34 students consisting of classes IA and IB. Data was collected using observation, interviews, and tests. Trials on test instruments use validity tests, reliability tests, level of difficulty of questions, and distinguishing power. The data analysis used was a prerequisite test using the normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing using Mann-Whitney. Data collection was carried out through pretest and posttest, as well as learning implementation. Researchers used the Mann-Whitney hypothesis test because in the normality test, the data was not normally distributed, which shows that there is an influence of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model in improving students' English learning outcomes. The results of the data analysis showed that Asymp.Sig(2-tailed) was 0.000 with a significance level of <0.05. Based on these results, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. So it is concluded that there is an influence of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model with boy-boy games on English learning outcomes at SDN Rang Perang Laok as well as increasing students' activeness, courage, and self-confidence in the learning process.

Abstract

Research highlights a mismatch between the general scoring rubrics teachers use and the specific features required to assess genre-based writing, potentially due to a lack of genre-based approach-specific models. The study aims to develop and validate genre-based assessment instruments, and it sought to evaluate the validity and reliability of these instruments to ensure their suitability for classroom-based assessment. This study involved four stages of the research and development (R&D) model: initial product development, refinement, field-testing, and revision. Data were collected through focus group discussions (FGD) with a fellow teacher on the test blueprint and rubric, a questionnaire on participants’ perceptions of test quality, and field-testing of 40 students’ writing scores. SPSS was used to analyze inter-rater reliability, and participants deemed the instruments suitable for classroom use. The results show that genre-based assessment through the tasks is effectively aligned with instructional objectives with assessment practices. It revealed a strong positive correlation, confirming the reliability of the scoring rubric. Thus, the instruments are both valid and reliable for assessing students’ narrative writing performance. The findings emphasize the potential of genre-based assessment tools to align instructional goals with assessment practices, offering implications for enhancing the teaching and assessment of genre-specific writing in educational contexts.
