Abstract

The impact of social media use on mental health remains a contentious issue, with varying evidence reported across studies. Concurrently, the prevalence of adverse life events, a significant global social concern, has been increasing. This study investigates the influence of social media use and adverse life events on depression symptoms among individuals in Indonesia. Using a nationally representative sample of 29,793 participants from the Indonesian Family Life Survey Wave 5, depression levels were assessed via the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale. To account for the overdispersed nature of count data, a negative binomial regression model was utilized to analyze the effects of social media use and adverse life events on depression. The findings reveal that both social media use and the frequency of adverse life events are significantly associated with higher rates of depressive symptoms. Additionally, the study indicates that depression rates are more pronounced among females and younger individuals compared to males and older adults. Educational programs should be designed to raise awareness about the potential mental health risks associated with excessive social media use. Policy makers should also consider integrating mental health support into disaster response plans to better support individuals experiencing adverse life events.

Abstract

We investigate the impact of the percentage of clean water access, the percentage of handwashing habits, and the toilet category factors on the upper quantile of toddlers’ diarrhea risks in Bandung City, Indonesia, using the Geographically Weighted Quantile Regression model on the 75th percentile. The breusch-Pagan test was used to detect spatial heterogeneity. The results show that the significance, strength, and direction of the relationship between diarrhea and its risk factors depend on the location. At the upper quantile, the Panyileukan district is predicted to have the highest diarrhea risk. In this district, all three predictors significantly affect the toddlers’ diarrhea risk, with the variable of the percentage of houses practicing hand washing habits observed to reduce diarrhea risk the most. In conclusion, clean water access, handwashing habits, and toilet category are the potential risk factors for high-risk childhood diarrhea. This method is powerful as it would allow the decision maker to handle the diarrhea problem aptly based on which predictor has a substantial effect at a specific district of interest. And it can be used to investigate the effect of various intervention strategies and effectively allocate the limited available resources according to the most important locations.

Abstract

Abstract: Transient university students who experience loneliness might be exposed to decreased mental well-being threats, such as decreased happiness, depression symptoms, stress, and anxiety. Therefore, this study aims to examine whether there is an effect of self-esteem, social support, personality, and demographic factors on the loneliness of students who study outside their hometown city. This study was conducted cross-sectionally with multiple linear regression analysis and the sample was selected using snowball sampling technique. The sample of this study amounted to 225 transient university students in Jabodetabek. The instruments used are The Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale, The State Self-Esteem Scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and the Extrovert and Introvert Personality Inventory. The results showed that self-esteem had the largest significant effect (β=-0.583,p

Abstract

This study aims to test the construct validity of the technostress instrument using an instrument developed by Ragu-Nathan et al. (2008) contained 20 modified items using the Indonesian language. The research data was obtained from middle adult teaching staff, namely teachers and lecturers aged 35-60 who taught online learning during Covid-19. 212 respondents participated in this study. The test used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with first-order per-dimensional, first-order unidimensional, and second-order models. The analysis was done in MPLUS. Based on CFA first-order unidimensional results, the model fits the data with one item discarded (Item 17). The CFA second-order model is also fit according to the goodness criteria with all items being valid except item 6. According to CFA first-order per-dimensional testing, results show that items for three dimensions (techno-overload, techno-complexity, and techno-insecurity) are valid, while the other two dimensions (techno-uncertainty and techno-invasion) are not fit because the number of items is too small. The instrument can be used to measure technostress and is considered to be unidimensional measuring technostress.

Abstract

Understanding character strengths in adolescents with Down Syndrome (DS) can help identify positive aspects and develop intervention programs so that they have a better quality of life. This study aims to examine the influence of parental religiosity on the character strength of adolescents with DS which is mediated by strength-based parenting (SBP). The participants in this research consisted of 70 parents of teenagers with Down syndrome in Jakarta and the surrounding area, who were obtained through purposive sampling. Research variables were measured by adapting and modifying the Values in Action Inventory of Strength (VIA-IS), Brief Multidimensional Measurement of Religiousness/Spirituality (BMMR/S), and Strength-based Parenting (SBP) scale. Data analysis was carried out using regression-based mediation analysis via the PROCESS syntax in IBM SPSS. The results showed that SBP could significantly mediate the influence of parental religiosity on the character strength of adolescents with DS (indirect effect =.4916; 95% CI=(.265; .8042)). The implication of this research is that parents of adolescents with DS are advised to increase their religiosity and use SBP so that the character strengths of adolescents with DS develop optimally.

Abstract

Future anxiety can reduce quality of life, affecting happiness, satisfaction, and reaching goals. Constant worry can make it hard to enjoy daily life and may lead to stress, depression, and poor physical health. This study aims to examine the influence of self-efficacy, husnuzan, and social support on the future anxiety of students. This study used a quantitative approach cross-sectionally with multiple regression analysis. The sample consisted of 204 students (M=20.69, SD=1.21, female=149, male=55 )at State Islamic University Jakarta selected using accidental sampling.  Instruments used in this study were the Future Anxiety Scale, NGSE Scale, Husnuzan Scale, and social support scale developed according to Sarafino (2011). Confirmatory Factor Analysis was used to test the construct validity of the instruments. Self-efficacy (β =  0.209, p 0.000) and husnuzan towards Allah (β = 0.486, p 0.000) have been proven to be significant protective factors for future anxiety among students with R2=0.398 (F(7,196)=18.5, p0.000). These findings suggest that students should develop strategies to increase their self-efficacy and encourage a husnuzan attitude towards Allah.

Abstract

In Indonesia's diverse society, tensions and conflicts among various groups of religions often disrupt social harmony. Therefore, it emerges the concept of religious moderation which is currently adopted as a national policy in Indonesia to counter intolerance and radicalism. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing religious moderation in  Indonesian Muslim adolescents. The instruments used in this study are the modified Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), the Indonesian version of the Muslim Daily Religiosity Assessment Scale (MUDRAS), and the Religious Moderation Scale. The religious moderation instrument consists of three dimensions: national commitment, anti-violence, and accommodation of local culture. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed to test construct validity. Using multiple linear regression we evaluate the effect of religiosity and parenting style on religious moderation. The sample of this study was 339 Indonesian Muslim late adolescents aged 17-22 years old from 22 provinces in Indonesia. The results showed that parenting styles and religiosity are significant predictors that positively influence religious moderation, both simultaneously and partially. The findings of this study suggest that parenting style and religiosity are the factors influencing religious moderation of Indonesian Muslim late adolescents. The findings of this study further emphasize the importance of the family's role in shaping adolescents' attitudes toward religion.
