Abstract

The dependence on the imported bullet-proof vest  as one of the main equipments of the National Defense System needs attention. This condition treats the independence of domestic defense security. In contrast, the potential of natural materials for bullet-proof vest plates are abundant in Indonesia. Nata de Coco is one of the natural raw materials for producing bullet-proof vest plates that has the potential to be developed. This preliminary research proved that increasing the bond strength of cellulose in Nata de Coco was performed by adding the appropriate crosslinkers. The addition of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) 2% crosslinker to form Nata de Coco kevlar-like plates (Navlar) was evidenced to increase threefold tensile strength (99.15 MPa) from its original Nata de Coco (31.92 MPa). The development of Navlar is a very strategic sector for producing high-quality bullet-proof vest plates equivalent to kevlar strength. Navlar is more prospective than Kevlar due to its abundant source, cheap, lightweight, and ease to manufacture. Developing Navlar could replace the dependence on imported Kevlar and support the domestic defense industry.

Abstract

Isopropylidene Glycerol Acetate (IGA) and Isopropylidene Glycerol Propanoate (IGP) as ester compounds using acetic and propanoic acids have been synthesized, characterized, and studied for their antibacterial properties. The IGA was synthesized from ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and 1,2-O-isopropyliden glycerol (IPG) with a mole ratio of 1:8 through a transesterification reaction. Meanwhile, the IGP was synthesized using ethyl propanoate (EP) with the same ratio and method as IGA. All materials in this study were identified using FT-IR, GC-MS, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. The characterization results indicated that the compounds of EP, IPG, IGA, and IGP had been successfully formed and identified. It was also revealed that the compounds of EP, IPG, IGA, and IGP were successfully synthesized with yields of 37.72, 27.78, 70.11, and 63.83%, respectively. The antibacterial activity test revealed that neither IGA nor IGP inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus or Escherichia coli at concentrations of 62.5; 125; 250; 500; and 1000 ppm. Therefore, it was asserted that ester compounds synthesized with short-chain carboxylic acids, such as propanoic and acetic acids, lacked antibacterial properties.

Abstract

In defense industry, α-cellulose is the main component of nitrocellulose propellant. However, a detailed description of the reaction mechanism of each treatment step in SNI 0444-2009 is still very scarce. This study addresses this gap by presenting the reaction mechanisms of each treatment and the symbols used in the SNI 0444-2009 procedure. The separation of lignin from α-cellulose occurred by breaking the C‒O bond linking them. This bond was broken by the ‒OH group of NaOH via a hydrolysis reaction. The reaction was initiated with the elimination of a hydrogen atom from the lignin structure by the hydroxyl ion (‒OH), and the C‒O bond was broken by a hydrolysis reaction. The breaking of this bond was indicated by the disappearance of the IR peaks at wavenumbers 1049 and 1190 cm–1 in the filtrate after extraction. The SNI 0444-2009 method for the α-cellulose content test was carried out by a redox back titration of Cr(VI) with Fe(II) from ferrous ammonium sulfate. This titration was conducted to calculate the amount of Cr(VI) ions in potassium dichromate or Cr(VI) that did not react with lignin or beta cellulose in the filtrate. Understanding the contribution and reaction mechanisms of each compound involved in the SNI 0444-2009 procedure contributed to obtaining accurate data on α-cellulose content. In this study, the calculated α-cellulose content of the flax fiber was 96.75%. Furthermore, the detailed mechanism of the redox reaction was discussed in detail in this paper.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Literasi kesehatan akhir-akhir ini disadari memiliki peranan yang sangat penting dalam penanggulangan berbagai masalah kesehatan termasuk penyakit kronis Tuberkulosis Paru (TB Paru). Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran tingkat literasi pada lansia mengenai penyakit kronis Tuberkulosis Paru (TB) Pada warga RT 9, di Kelurahan Gunung Lingai. Metode: Dalam pengumpulan data menggunakan metode pengumpulan data primer yang nantinya datanya diperoleh melalui pre dan post test literasi Tuberkulosis dengan jumlah 8 pertanyaan, Hasil skor dari 8 pertanyaan setelah pemaparan materi akan digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat literasi Tuberculosis. Hasil: Lalu didapatkan hasil bahwa literasi tuberkulosis menyatakan rendah sebanyak 2 orang (16,7%), sedangkan yang sedang sebanyak 0 orang (0%), dan yang pengetahuan tinggi sebanyak 10 orang (83,3%). Kesimpulan: Literasi kesehatan mengenai Tuberkulosis rata-rata pengetahuannya tinggi setelah dilakukan pemaparan materi sehingga hasil yang didapat dari perhitungan post test adalah termasuk kategori literasi tinggi.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality of coconut milk as a substitute for liquid milk in the manufacture of torn bread in terms of quality, namely from the indicators of Appearance, Taste, Color, Aroma, and Texture. The sample of this study were residents of RT 07, located in the walnut alley Nologaten street, and several experts with a total of 30 panellists. The analysis used in this research is descriptive statistics. The variables measured were Appearance, Taste, Color, Aroma, and Texture. This study analyzes the data by conducting experiments and comparing the conclusions drawn based on consumer answers from expert interviews. In addition, the discussion of food quality, which consists of appearance, taste, colour, taste, and texture, is an inseparable unit, meaning that food quality is the basis of consumer response. The results show that in coconut milk, in making torn bread, it was proven that the taste, aroma, colour, texture and appearance factors got a "positive" response; the positive response was on average on a four semantic differential scale.

Abstract

Inovasi lokal dalam praktik budidaya merupakan solusi alternatif untuk petani di pedesaan yang kurang percaya diri untuk mengadopsi teknologi modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik petani kopi di Desa Cikandang dan menganalisis pengaruh karakteristik inovasi meliputi keunggulan relatif, kesesuaian, kompleksitas, kemudahan untuk diuji coba, dan kemudahan diamati terhadap keputusan adopsi inovasi lokal dalam budidaya kopi. Desain penelitian ini deskriptif kuantitatif dengan metode survei, dengan responden 50 petani anggota aktif kelompok tani Karya Mandiri. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Chi-Square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mayoritas petani adalah pria usia 21–40 tahun, berpendidikan SD, menggarap lahan seluas 0,5–2 ha, dan modal Rp 3,1–6 juta. Dari kelima aspek karakteristik inovasi, hanya tiga aspek meliputi keunggulan relatif, kesesuaian, dan kemudahan untuk diamati yang memiliki pengaruh terhadap keputusan adopsi inovasi lokal pada budidaya kopi arabika di Desa Cikandang. Kata Kunci : adopsi, inovasi lokal, petani kopi, persepsi petani
