Abstract

The production of banana plants (Musaceaea sp.) ranks first in agricultural output in Indonesia, but this is not balanced by the processing of waste from banana peels, which is a large amount. Therefore, an attempt is made to use banana peel waste as raw material for making pectin. Pectin is used as a functional component in the food industry because of its ability to form thin gels and stabilize proteins. Pectin is also used as a filler in the paper and textile industries, and as a thickener in the rubber industry. This research aims to determine the effect of extraction time and temperature on the quality of pectin from Kepok banana peels. The method used is extraction through Ultrasonic Assisted Solvent Extraction (UASE) in 40 kHz. Banana peels that had been dried and ground into powder were extracted with 0.1 N HCl at temperatures of 70 oC, 80 oC and 90 oC. The variables used in this extraction are variations in extraction time, namely 60 minutes and 80 minutes. The extracted solution is filtered and thickened to half the volume of the original filtrate by heating, then the pectin is thickened using acid ethanol. The pectin precipitate was washed using 96% alcohol until it was free of chloride and the precipitate was separated using a vacuum and then dried in an oven then to analysis of pectin using methoxyl and galacturonate as method to determine pectin quality form banana peel waste. The research results showed that the pectin quality was optimum at a temperature of 90 oC for 80 minutes with a methoxyl content of 4.12% (low methoxyl) and a galacturonic acid content of 79.96%.

Abstract

Pakan menjadi permasalahan krusial bagi petani yang memiliki ternak bahkan oleh peternak di Desa Maggenrang. Sulitnya memperoleh tanaman hijauan ketika musim kemarau tiba menjadi permasalahan utama, sehingga dibutuhkan pakan alternatif yang dapat membantu petani khususnya Kelompok Tani Pao Kalikie’ Desa Maggenrang dalam memenuhi pakan sekaligus pakan yang memiliki nutrisi tinggi. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk membantu mitra dalam memanfaatkan limbah jerami jagung kombinasi tanaman hijau lainnya ditransformasi menjadi pakan awetan hijau atau silase. Melalui metode fermentasi akan mengubah limbah jerami padi dan kombinasi tanaman hijau menjadi pakan bernutrisi untuk ternak. Metode yang dilaksanakan dengan dua tahapan utama yaitu Penyuluhan dan Implementasi Program untuk mengedukasi mitra dalam memanfaatkan secara maksimal limbah jerami jagung. Hasil yang diperoleh bahwa terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra secara signifikan sebesar 90% yang menunjukkan bahwa mitra mampu secara mandiri dan memiliki bekal dalam membuat pakan mandiri dengan bahan potensi lokal dan melimpah. Pemberdayaan mitra akan berdampak pada terwujudnya Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Desa Sehat dan Sejahtera sekaligus mendukung program pemerintah yaitu Gerakan Pakan Mandiri. Selain itu, akan menumbuhkan jiwa sociopreneur di Desa Maggenrang dengan mengedepankan pengolah limbah berbasis zero waste.

Abstract

The main objective of numerical simulation in thisstudies is to determine the effect of diffuser’s interior design onincreasing the diffuser augmented wind turbine (DAWT)performance by observing wind velocity increment. Numericalstudies were carried out using the computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) method through a two-dimensional steady approach withAnsys Fluent 18.2 and Ansys Workbench 18.2 software. Thepresent studies spesifically investigate the shapes of diffuser,namely flat diffuser and curved diffuser. The studies demonstratethat the curved diffuser generates stronger increment of the windvelocity than flat diffuser (at centreline), which 1.842 times thefreestream velocity, while the flat diffuser is only able to increseup to 1.742 times the freestream velocity. The curved diffusershows the highest increment of the average wind velocity alongdiffuser with the greatest increment of 78.66 % and the flatdiffuser is only able to provide average wind velocity incrementup to 44.81%. The curved interor of diffuser is able to enlarge thewake area, so the effect of the suction flow entering the diffuserbecomes stronger. Therefore, curved diffuser is better to provideDAWT performance improvements.
