Abstract

Arabic language learning often faces the challenge of low student interest, especially because it is considered difficult to understand letters, vocabulary, and grammar. Monotonous traditional learning approaches tend to make students feel bored and less involved in the learning process. To overcome this, the game-based learning method is applied as an innovative strategy to create a more interactive and fun learning atmosphere. This study aims to analyze the application of game-based learning in increasing students' interest in learning class VIII-6 at MTs Darul Ulum Budi Agung. By using descriptive qualitative method, the research data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation during the learning process. The focus of the research included changes in students' attitudes, increased understanding of vocabulary (mufrodat), and the learning atmosphere created through educational games. The results showed that this method significantly increased students' interest in learning. Games such as flashcards and matching games help students understand vocabulary more easily and increase their engagement in learning. In addition, the classroom atmosphere became more dynamic and collaborative, encouraging previously passive students to participate more actively. In conclusion, game-based learning is an effective approach to increase interest in learning Arabic in junior high school. This method can be used as a relevant alternative learning model to face challenges in learning Arabic in various educational contexts.

Data collection techniques were carried out through participant and non-participant observation and structured and unstructured interviews. Data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative analysis method with theme analysis techniques. The results showed that students had difficulty in understanding sentence structure, vocabulary, and pronunciation due to lack of learning motivation, parental support, and teacher ability and development of Arabic learning strategies. These factors have an impact on low academic achievement and student learning motivation, so that students have difficulty learning. The results of the study suggest that it is necessary to improve teacher skills, develop interactive learning strategies, improve communication between teachers-students-parents, and provide varied learning resources. Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a crucial aspect in learning Arabic, in practice there are still many students who have difficulty in understanding and remembering mufrodat even though the Game-Based Learning method has been applied. This research is motivated by the fact that the application of GBL in class VIII MTs Swasta Riyadussholihin Sunggal Medan has not fully succeeded in improving vocabulary mastery evenly among students. The main purpose of this study is to analyze students' and teachers' experiences in the implementation of GBL and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the success of this method. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects were one Arabic teacher and all students of grade VIII, with data obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that although GBL increased students' motivation and engagement, around 45% of students still experienced difficulties in vocabulary acquisition due to factors such as the fast rhythm of the game, lack of understanding of the rules, and different learning styles. This study recommends modifying the GBL strategy to be more inclusive, adaptive to the needs of students in madrasah.
