Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the n-hexane fraction of Moringa leaf ethanol extract (Moringa oleifera L.) on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in Sprague Dawley male rat strains fed a high-fat diet. This study used a pre-test and post-test control design on male rats of the Sprague Dawley strain. Thirty-six male white rats of the Sprague Dawley strain were given high-fat diet and then divided into six groups: group I was normal group, group II negative control was given CMC Na, Group III positive control was given Simvastatin 10 mg, Group IV, V, VI was given n-hexane fraction of ethanol extract of Moringa leaves (Dose 3,722 mg/kgBW; 7.444 mg/kgBW; 14,888 mg/kgBW). The results of measuring low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in animals were measured after 14 days of research as a post-test. Based on statistical analysis, there was no significant difference between the positive control group and the three treatment groups (p=1,000). The results of this study can conclude that the dose of the n-hexane fraction of Moringa leaves has a significant effect on decreasing LDL levels in male Sprague Dawley rats with the best % reduction at a dose of 14.89 mg/kg BW (61.17%), with a linear regression equation y=-0.0408x + 1.079; (R2=0.986). The results of this study indicate that the n-hexane part of Moringa leaves may reduce low-density lipoprotein levels in male white Wistar rats induced by high-fat.

Abstract

The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) is the key to controlling Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in Indonesia. The Special Region of Yogyakarta is one of the provinces of Indonesia that has the second highest prevalence of DM. The majority of DM patients are in Sleman Regency.  This Prambanan Community Health Center (Puskesmas) is the second public health center with the highest prevalence of DM in Sleman. Quality of life (QOL) is the ultimate goal and important result of medical intervention for DM patients. The research methodology was a cross-sectional study conducted among 34 subjects who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of this study showed that among the Prolanis participants with T2DM, 20 participants (58.8%)  had controlled glycemic and 14 participants (41.2%) had uncontrolled glycemic. QOL was found to be higher among participants with controlled glycemic (80.0%) compared to participants with uncontrolled glycemic (28.6%), and the relationship was statistically significant (p<0.05). There was a relationship between glycemic control and quality of life.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) cases in the Yogyakarta Special Region in 2022 reached 42,050 patients (53.9%), with Sleman Regency having the highest prevalence. The therapy received by patients affects their clinical condition and quality of life. This study aims to determine the difference in the average quality of life of Prolanis DMT2 participants receiving monotherapy and polytherapy at Prambanan Public Health Center in Sleman. This research used an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consists of 34 Prolanis participants at Prambanan Health Center, selected through total sampling. The instrument used is a quality-of-life questionnaire with a reverse Likert scale. The data analysis to measure quality of life is the Mann-Whitney statistics, using independent variables of monotherapy and polytherapy, and the dependent variable of quality of life scores. The majority of respondents are female (22 people, 66.7%), aged 56–65 years (16 people, 47.1%), and have a high school education level (15 people, 44.1%). Most are unemployed (21 people, 61.8%), have had diabetes for ≤ 5 years (26 people, 76.5%), and do not have complications (26 people, 76.5%). The average quality of life score for monotherapy is 28.88, and for polytherapy, it was 41.70. The quality of life for monotherapy is higher than for polytherapy, with a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05). This study aims to determine the difference in the average quality of life between Prolanis DMT2 participants receiving monotherapy and polytherapy at Prambanan Health Center in Sleman. Based on the research results, it was concluded that there is a difference in the average quality of life between Prolanis DMT2 participants at Puskesmas Prambanan Sleman who received monotherapy and those who received polytherapy, with a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05)

Abstract

The analgesic and antidiarrheal effects of Clitoria ternatea Linn. flower extract were tested in mice. A significant analgesic response (p<0.05) was observed in acetic acid-induced pain models in a dose-dependent manner. The percent protection of analgesic properties was calculated from the reduction of writhing by butterfly pea ethanol extract. The Butterfly pea extract doses at 100, 200, and 400 mg/ kg showed analgesic protection by 76.6% (9.4  ± 3.65), 93.9% (2.4 ± 1.95), and 97.5% (1.0 ± 0.71), respectively. The antidiarrheal properties of Clitoria ternatea Linn. flower extract were assessed using the castor oil-induced diarrhea method. Clitoria ternatea Linn. flower extract delayed the onset of castor oil-induced diarrhea in a dose-dependent manner and reduced the frequency of defecation. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) between the effects of 400 mg/kg of Clitoria ternatea Linn. flower extract and loperamide in protecting mice against castor oil-induced diarrhea. Based on the study results, it is suggested that the Clitoria ternatea Linn. flower extract has strong analgesic and antidiarrheal properties.
