Abstract

Traditional ceremonies are one of the traditions of indigenous peoples that are considered to still have values that are quite relevant to the needs of the supporting community. In addition to being a human effort to connect with the spirits of ancestors, it is also a form of human ability to actively adapt to nature or the environment in a broad sense. This research aims to analyze one of the traditional ceremonies in Indonesia, especially in Samparong Village, Sikka Regency. The traditional ceremony is called Tuan Tewo. The researcher uses qualitative methods. The data collection techniques used in this research are interviews and documentation. The results discuss several stages in the Tuan Tewo ceremony process. Tuan Tewo ceremony process has two stages, namely the ritual preparation stage and the implementation stage. In addition, this research found Samparong community perspectives towards the Tuan Tewo traditional ceremony in Samparong Village, where the Tuan Tewo traditional ceremony is only a form of preserving their culture and customs left by their ancestors. The impact of not implementing the Tuan Tewo traditional ceremony is that this is quite old ancestral heritage and various bad things hit the farmers' crops. Therefore, the Samparong community in Sikka Regency has to maintain the tradition of the Tuan Tewo ceremony as an expression of community identity. The local government should be able to continue mobilizing the community to be actively involved in the preservation of Tuan Tewo's traditional ceremony. In addition, it is also hoped that the government will include all traditions carried out by local communities in an educational aspect.

Abstract

Indonesia adopts a curriculum called the Kurikulum Merdeka. The implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka at State Elementary School Sukun faces significant challenges, particularly in limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and the need for innovative teaching methods. This study employs a qualitative approach through interviews and documentation to gain an in-depth understanding of teachers' obstacles. The findings indicate several barriers, including a lack of facilities, infrastructure, and guidebooks on the Kurikulum Merdeka. Teachers struggle due to the absence of these essential resources, hindering their ability to fully grasp and implement the curriculum effectively. Additionally, the school's remote location in Samparong Village exacerbates the issue, as the absence of a stable cellular network limits access to online learning resources. Despite these challenges, teachers strive to ensure students understand the lessons, although some still struggle with the new curriculum approach. To successfully implement the Kurikulum Merdeka, teachers must adopt creative teaching strategies to align with the Ministry of Education’s objectives. Abstract

Indonesia's local cultural heritage faces significant challenges amidst the accelerating forces of globalization, which increasingly undermine traditional values, particularly among younger generations vulnerable to foreign cultural influences. In an effort to safeguard this heritage, the Indonesian government has introduced policies mandating the use of traditional attire within educational institutions as a strategy for cultural preservation. This study investigates the implementation of such a regulation at Yapenthom 1 Junior High School, focusing on students’ perceptions and its broader impact on the school’s cultural environment. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with students, as well as in-depth interviews with teachers and school leadership. The findings indicate that students generally perceive the traditional dress policy as an effort to maintain cultural identity and promote respect for cultural diversity. However, a segment of students expressed concerns over the policy’s perceived constraints on personal expression. The regulation is seen to positively influence character education by instilling values of discipline and responsibility, while also enhancing the effectiveness of the BelaSikka program. This study offers valuable empirical insights for policymakers seeking to design culturally responsive educational strategies that balance heritage preservation with the evolving needs of a diverse student population.
