Abstract

Stereopsis is the highest binocular vision ability which is very important in children's visual development. Especially in supporting the learning process and daily activities. Refractive disorders such as myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism that are not properly corrected can inhibit the development of stereopsis. Objective: To determine the stereopsis ability based on the type of refractive disorder that has been corrected in students of SDN 11 Pagi and SDN 17 Kebon Jeruk in 2025. Method: This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 792 students who had their refractive disorders corrected and met the inclusion criteria. Results: Of the total 792 students, 465 students had refractive disorders, with the highest proportion of compound myopic astigmatism (27.9%). This group also showed the highest percentage of subnormal stereopsis (33.5%). In addition, of the 115 students with subnormal conditions, many (51.3%) were accompanied by anisometropia. Conclusion: There are differences in stereopic abilities in children based on corrected refractive errors, groups with a combination of refractive errors accompanied by anisometropia mostly experience subnormal stereopsis. Therefore, it is important to do early detection and correct refractive errors appropriately to support the development of binocular vision and children's learning achievements so that they are maximized.

Abstract

Refractive errors and color vision deficiencies are common visual health issues among school-aged children and can negatively affect learning performance and quality of life. Early detection is essential to minimize their academic impact. This study aims to determine the prevalence of refractive errors and the characteristics of color vision among students at two public elementary schools at Kebon Jeruk in 2025. This is a descriptive study using a quantitative approach. Data were collected through visual acuity tests using a Snellen chart and color vision screening using Ishihara test book on students who met the inclusion criteria. Of the 792 students examined, the prevalence of refractive errors was 458 (57.8%). The most common type of refractive error was myopia with astigmatism 203 (25.66%), followed by astigmatism 144 (18.20%), myopia 77 (9.70%), hypermetropia with astigmatism 25 (3.20%) and hypermetropia 9 (1.1%). Meanwhile, color vision deficiencies were found in 16 (2%) , all of whom were male and had protan and deutan types. The prevalence of refractive errors among elementary school students is relatively high, while color vision deficiencies are less common. Based on the research results, regular eye examinations and education about eye health are crucial for early detection and treatment to support students' learning process.

Abstract

Cataracts are one of the main causes of blindness in Indonesia, especially in lower-middle class communities who have limited access to eye health information. Through an education program in the pre-prosperous communities of Tangerang, an intervention was carried out to improve participants' knowledge and behavior regarding cataracts. This program involved collaboration between eye specialists (ophthalmologists), as the main resource persons, and optometris health workers who actively participate. The methods used included providing interactive education by ophthalmologists regarding the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of cataracts, which were complemented by discussion sessions and knowledge evaluation through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. A total of 80 participants filled out a questionnaire containing 10 closed questions before and after education. The results of the analysis showed an increase in the average score of 30,3%. All participants showed an increase in understanding after receiving education, marked by no scores below 67 on the post-test. This activity shows that an educational approach that was adjusted to the community's literacy level is effective in increasing awareness of eye health, especially in preventing blindness due to cataracts.

Abstract

Glaucoma is an optic neuropathy resulting from intraocular pressure that is above average, and is synonymous with visual field disorders and optic nerve papillary atrophy. Glaucoma is asymptomatic so sudden blindness or sudden loss of visual field often occurs in glaucoma patients. Purpose : The main focus of this research is to identify factors related to glaucoma sufferers at Tarakan District Hospital in 2021-2022. Methods : This research used a purposive sampling technique with a cross sectional method with 30 respondents. Data collection was carried out from September to October. Results : The results of this study showed that there was no relationship between age (p=1,000), gender (p=0.689), unilateral intraocular pressure (p= 0.221), bilateral intraocular pressure (p= 1,000), and history of systemic disease (p= 1,000) towards primary glaucoma sufferers at TARAKAN Regional Hospital. Conclusion: The conclusion from this study was that there was no relationship between age, gender, intraocular pressure, and history of systemic disease on the incidence of glaucoma at TARAKAN Regional Hospital. My advice as a researcher is that people who are at high risk of developing glaucoma should routinely undergo comprehensive eye examinations.

Abstract

Binocular vision disorders in early childhood can affect visual development and learning ability. This study aims to determine the characteristics and prevalence of binocular vision disorders in preschool children at PAUD TAT Al-Arif K-Yana, BKB Mawar Calistung, and TK Islam Al-Amin. The study was conducted on 122 children aged 3–7 years using a quantitative descriptive design. The majority of respondents were female (58.2%) and aged between 5 and 6 years. Refraction test results showed that emmetropia was the most common condition in the right eye (61.5%) and left eye (60.7%). The Hirschberg test revealed that 13.9% of the children had exotropia, while 86.1% had a central and symmetrical light reflex. No heterophoria abnormalities were found, either at distance or near vision. This study highlights the importance of early screening to detect binocular vision disorders in preschool children so that early intervention can be carried out to prevent future visual developmental problems

Abstract

The aging population in Indonesia accompanied by a demographic dividend has caused an increase in the elderly population. The aging process can usually be accompanied by a decrease in visual sensory disorders with senile cataracts. The presence of senile cataracts can cause depressive disorders that have an impact on the mental health of the elderly. Purpose to determine the relationship between the severity (grading) of senile cataract disease with the level of depression in diagnosis of senile cataracts patiens at the UKRIDA Hospital in Jakarta. Method is a correlational analysis study using primary and secondary data from patients with a diagnosis of senile cataracts with an accidental sampling technique. Data analysis using the Gamma Correlation test. The study with 72 patient sample and found an average age of 68 years with grade 1 senile cataract disorders of 44 people (61.1%). Patients with senile cataracts with mild depressive disorders of 41 people (56.9%) Conclusions are the correlation between the severity (grading) of senile cataracts and the level of depression in elderly patients is not significant or does not have a significant relationship with a p-value 0,400. A correlation value of 0,200 indicates a positive correlation with a very weak and meaningless correlation strength.

Abstract

Amblyopia or "lazy eye" is a visual impairment due to abnormal visual development in childhood. If not treated early, it can cause permanent visual acuity loss. The main causes are uncorrected refractive errors and strabismus. Routine examinations at school are important to detect and prevent long-term impacts. To determine the prevalence of suspected amblyopia in students of SDN 11 and 17 Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, and its distribution based on age, gender, type, and clinical classification of amblyopia. This study used a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. Of the 840 students, 792 met the inclusion criteria through total sampling. The examination included visual acuity (Snellen Chart), refractive status (autorefractor), and identification of the type and classification of amblyopia. It was found that 108 children (13.6%) were identified as suspected amblyopia. The proportion of cases was higher in girls (54.6%) than boys (45.4%). The age with the highest number of cases was 10 years (23.1%), followed by 7 years (21.3%). Based on the type, 53.7% were classified as anisometropic amblyopia and 46.3% were isometropic. In terms of classification, the majority (99.1%) were refractive amblyopia and only 0.9% were deprivation amblyopia.

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) exposure is a significant ocular health risk for outdoor workers, particularly PPSU officers in tropical regions. This community engagement program aimed to improve UV risk awareness and eye protection. Methods included basic eye examinations, interactive education, and counseling on personal protective equipment involving 53 PPSU workers in Pengadegan, South Jakarta. Results indicated that participants initially had limited knowledge and inconsistent use of eye protection. Following the intervention, there was a notable increase in understanding and a willingness to adopt preventive behaviors. In conclusion, simple educational interventions effectively enhance eye health awareness among urban outdoor workers. Such programs should be sustained as part of occupational health promotion and prevention strategies to ensure long-term worker safety.
