Abstract

Based on the phenomenon of new policy changes in Indonesian education, namely implementing an independent curriculum with the characteristics of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) method. This study aims to describe teachers' perceptions in implementing Project Based Learning (PjBL) through Merdeka Curriculum using social media in teaching English speaking skills. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The data collection of this research were interview, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used was Miles & Huberman (Display, Reduction, and Conclusion). The results showed that the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) through the Merdeka Curriculum in private vocational high schools has been implemented but not optimal because it has several obstacles related to implementation time, student motivation, and lack of facilities needed. However, the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum has a very good effect on teachers and students by implementing a learning process that focuses on students' ability to realize Speaking Skill teaching using Project Based Learning (PjBL) in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Many Indonesian learners continue to struggle with learning English as a foreign language (EFL) and frequently produce errors in grammatical aspects when speaking English spontaneously. This may be influenced by several factors. Hence, this research reports on a study aimed at investigating and examining the errors produced by Indonesian learners in their oral presentations and the sources of the errors. In conducting this study, the error analysis procedures and a descriptive qualitative study were used. The data were collected from sixteen college students’ oral presentations of the non-English department. To gather the data, the students’ presentations were video-typed and the utterances were transcribed. In analysing the data, a theory of error classification proposed by Dulay et al. (1982) namely a surface strategy taxonomy was employed. The findings reveal that four types of errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering errors are found in the students’ productions in their oral presentation. The frequent errors made by the learners are omission, followed by misformation, addition, and misordering. Meanwhile, two major causes driving learners to make numerous mistakes are intra-lingual and inter-lingual interference. However, from both factors, the largest cause is intra-lingual interference. Thus, the students’ L1 interference affects their mastery of the target language. Finally, this study is expected to contribute to the improvement of EFL teaching and learning.

Abstract

Data dari Dinas Pemberdayaan Perempuan, Perlindungan Anak dan Keluarga Berencana DP3AKB Kabupaten Grobogan menyebutkan bahwa pada tahun 2021 sebanyak 11 kasus, selanjutnya pada tahun 2022 terdapat 15 kasus, sedangkan pada tahun 2023 sampai pada triwulan kedua sudah mengalami peningkatan sebanyak 4 kasus, sehingga total kasus pada bulan juni tahun 2023 sudah terdapat 19 kasus. Rata- rata kasus tersebut terjadi di luar lingkungan sekolah dengan pelaku merupakan orang terdekat korban. Kasus- kasus tersebut melibatkan anak sebagai korban dengan latar belakang masalah yang berbeda-beda. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan diskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mendeskripsikan peran sekolah dalam upaya pencegahan dan penanganan kekerasan seksual pada siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Kabupaten Grobogan. Peranan sekolah dalam upaya pencegahan kekerasan seksual pada siswa belum maksimal, dikarenakan belum tersedianya peraturan khusus yang disusun. Sekolah juga belum menyediakan satgas anti kekerasan seksual beserta program kerja atau sosialisasi anti kekerasan seksual secara berkala. Selain itu, dalam upaya penanganan sekolah juga belum memiliki alur penanganan yang terstruktur. Proses penangan kasus kekerasan seksual masih dilaksnakan oleh guru BK beserta kesiswaan dan kepala sekolah.

Abstract

In the contemporary era, discussions around gender equality and women's representation had gained significant traction, emphasizing the need for equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender. This research explored the portrayal of feminist values through the movie “Losmen Bu Broto,” directed by Ifa Isfansyah and Eddie Cahyono. Using Roland Barthes' semiotic framework, the research analysed how the movie represented feminism by examining the characterization of its female protagonists, including Bu Broto, Mbak Pur, and Jeng Sri. The movie, adapted from a TV series and set in a traditional Javanese context, was notable for its strong female characters who challenged societal norms. This research employed qualitative research methods, including detailed scene analysis and character examination, to investigate how these characters embodied feminist ideals. The analysis focused on various feminist theories, including Radical Feminism; Marxist and Socialist Feminism; Liberal Feminism; Black Feminism; and Postmodern Feminism, to understand how the movie's narrative reflected and critiqued traditional gender roles. The findings revealed that “Losmen Bu Broto” presented a nuanced portrayal of feminist values, illustrating women's strength, independence, and resistance to patriarchal structures. Through its characters' appearances, dialogues, and actions, the movie navigated the intersection of feminism and Javanese culture, highlighting both the challenges and advancements in the representation of women. This research contributed to the broader discourse on feminism in media by providing a comprehensive examination of how feminist ideologies were depicted and challenged within a culturally specific context

Abstract

Engaging in casual conversation is essential for EFL learners, as it enhances fluency, boosts confidence, and provides authentic language practice. However, Indonesian learners often face challenges in managing spontaneous interactions effectively, leading them to employ various strategies to manage communication breakdowns. This study aims to explore the communication strategies used by Indonesian EFL learners and examine the factors influencing their strategic choices. This study involved third-semester English education students and adopted a descriptive qualitative method with conversational analysis. Data were collected through audio-video recordings and interviews and analyzed based on Celce-Murcia et al.’s (1995) framework of communication strategies. The findings reveal that learners utilized all five main types and fourteen sub-types of communication strategies. Stalling or time-gaining strategies are the most frequently used, followed by achievement strategies or compensatory strategies, interactional strategies, self-monitoring strategies, and avoidance or reduction strategies. The frequent sub-types employed include fillers, hesitation devices, and gambits; self and other repetition; code-switching; and meaning negotiation strategies. Conversely, strategies such as message replacement, topic avoidance, all-purpose words, word coinage, and foreignizing were not employed. In addition, learners’ strategic choices were influenced by factors such as limited vocabulary and language proficiency, cognitive processing needs, the desire to convey meaning, efforts to ensure mutual understanding, self-awareness of errors, and topic complexity. Finally, this study offers some pedagogical implications for the betterment of EFL teaching and learning

Abstract

Bullying saat ini banyak terjadi di kalangan siswa-siswi di tingkat SMA, SMK, MA, dan sederajat. Banyak kasus bullying yang dilakukan, baik dalam bentuk kekerasan fisik maupun verbal. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan kepada siswa-siswi dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran berupa video berbasis film.Penelitian ini melalui beberapa tahap, yaitu: penyusunan judul, survei lokasi penelitian, penyusunan panitia, penyusunan proposal, dan pembuatan surat. Setelah semua persiapan telah selesai, selanjutnya proposal diajukan ke sekolah dan ke wakil rektor bagian kemahasiswaan untuk dilakukan pengecekan terhadap perencanaan kegiatan tersebut.Hasil dari pengecekan proposal menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini layak untuk dilaksanakan. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi besar dalam pengembangan edukasi menggunakan media video untuk mencegah perilaku bullying, baik yang bersifat fisik maupun verbal.
