Abstract

The importance of developing critical thinking skills in elementary education has gained increasing recognition, particularly through the implementation of inquiry-based learning (IBL) models. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the social inquiry learning model in enhancing critical thinking skills among fourth-grade students at an public elementary school in Surabaya. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, reflective journals, and document analysis. The thematic analysis revealed significant improvements in critical thinking for 75% of the participants, highlighting key themes such as "Engagement in Critical Thinking" and "Interaction Patterns in Learning Activities." These findings support the theoretical frameworks of Vygotsky and Piaget, demonstrating the model's applicability in non-Western educational contexts. The study suggests that culturally responsive teaching methods, incorporating social interactions and structured inquiry, can significantly enhance cognitive development. However, the limited scope of a single school and a small sample size suggest the need for further research across diverse settings. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of inquiry-based learning and the role of teacher preparation in implementing these strategies. This research underscores the importance of interactive, student-centered learning frameworks in fostering critical thinking and calls for a shift towards more dynamic educational approaches to prepare students for complex global challenges.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of social inquiry learning with interactive audio-visual media to enhance creative thinking among primary school students. The study used a qualitative case study method, focusing on a Grade 5 class at SDN Jajartunggal III, Surabaya. Data collection methods included participatory observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers, and student artifacts analysis. The study sought to understand how this instructional Model affects fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration in students’ creative thinking. The findings revealed that interactive media, such as digital storytelling and animated simulations, significantly increased student engagement and facilitated creative problem-solving. Students were able to delve deeper into social issues, collaborate more effectively, and express creative ideas more confidently. The study also underscored the critical role of teachers in facilitating this integrated approach, as their ability to balance structured guidance with open-ended inquiry was key to fostering creativity. In conclusion, this study contributes to understanding how combining social inquiry learning with audio-visual media can enhance creativity in elementary education. The results highlight the importance of teacher facilitation and suggest that further study should investigate the long-term impacts of this pedagogical approach across different educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of technology-based learning media on the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in elementary schools. The background of this research focuses on the importance of quality education in creating superior human resources. However, many learning processes still utilize monotonous methods, leading to low student interest and learning outcomes. Therefore, this research seeks to implement technology-based learning media as an alternative that can enhance student engagement and motivation. The research method employed is a quantitative method with and experimental design. Data were collected through tests of learning outcomes before and after the application of technology-based learning media. The results of the study are expected to show a significant positive effect of using such media on improving student learning outcomes. This research is anticipated to contribute to the development of more innovative and effective teaching methods, as well as enhance the quality of education in Indonesia.
