Abstract

The release of ions is the initial stage of the corrosion process in an orthodontic wire. Continuous release of ions can reduce the effectiveness and performance of the orthodontic wire. Continuous release of ions in CuNiTi orthodontic wire can change the properties of the wire and trigger hypersensitivity reactions, also in stainless steel orthodontic wire which experiences continuous release of ions can reduce its stiffness. The tannin in avocado seeds is useful as a corrosion inhibitor it can inhibit the release of ions because they are able to bind with metal ions and form a passive layer also able to bind with Fe ions in stainless steel orthodontic wires to form a passive surface layer which is able to inhibit the release of ions when the corrosion process occurs. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of avocado seed extract as a corrosion inhibitor on the release of metal ions from CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires. Rectangular CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires measuring 0.017 x 0.025 inches were taken in 3 groups (1 control group soaked in artificial saliva and 2 treatment groups soaked in avocado seed extract). The samples were soaked in avocado seed extract with a concentration of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L for 7 days. To see the release of ions, an X-Ray Fluorescence test is carried out. In CuNiTi orthodontic wire from the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups on Cu, Ni and Ti ions. The Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences between the control group, treatment group 1 and treatment group 2 in Cu, Ni and Ti ions with a p value. In stainless steel orthodontic wire, the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups in Fe and Ni ions but not significant in Cr ions in the ion release test with a p value <0.05. The Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences between the control group, treatment group 1 and treatment group 2 in Fe and Ni ions with a p value <0.05. Providing avocado seed extract with tannin content at concentrations of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L can inhibit the rate of ion release in CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires due to the corrosion process.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how product quality and pricing affect sales turnover through customer satisfaction and find out whether product quality and pricing affect sales turnover through customer satisfaction in the Islamic view. This type of research used in this study is a associative study, the sample in this study were consumers of perpetual Arya Jaya LPG gas agents, totaling 50 people, while the sampling technique using the saturated Non Probability Sampling that is Sampling method census. Data analysis techniques used are path analysis, and multiple tests. The results showed that these results indicate product quality and pricing have a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction, but the influence of product quality has positive and not significant results on sales turnover, and pricing on sales turnover has a positive and significant effect. Managerial implications of leveraging product quality and pricing to enhance sales turnover, with customer satisfaction as the mediator. Understanding the interplay between these factors is crucial for managers seeking to optimize their marketing strategies and drive business growth. By focusing on enhancing product quality and implementing competitive pricing strategies, managers can effectively influence customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the tooth supporting tissues caused by pathogenic microorganisms in dental plaque. P. gingivalis as the main etiology of periodontitis has a virulence factor in the form of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The use of NiTi wires in initial orthodontic treatment can exacerbate periodontitis. Robusta coffee beans contain active compounds such as chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid and caffeine as anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. This study aims to analyze the ability of robusta coffee bean extract gel to reduce TRAP in a rat model of periodontitis induced by the combination of LPS P. gingivalis and NiTi wire. The 28 male wistar rats were classified into 7 groups of normal (K), injected with LPS (P1), NiTi wire (P2), combination of LPS and NiTi wire (P3), injected with LPS and 500 mg/ml robusta coffee bean gel (P4), NiTi wire and 500 mg/ml robusta coffee bean gel (P5), combination of LPS and NiTi wire with 500 mg/ml robusta coffee bean gel (P6). The rats were decapitated, and then the tissue was stained with HE and IHC. The expression of TRAP was counted in the area around alveolar bone of the lower-left M1. Data were analyzed using SPSS software by going through several test, such as Saphiro-Wilk, Levene-Test, Kruskal-Wallis, and followed by Mann-Whitney. The results of TRAP expression showed a significant decreased (p<0,05) on combination of LPS and NiTi wire with robusta coffee bean extract gel. Robusta coffee bean extract gel was able to reduce TRAP expression on periodontitis model rats induced by the combination of LPS P. gingivalis and NiTi wire.

Abstract

Background: The surface roughness of orthodontic arch wires is an essential factor that affects the effectiveness of arch-guided tooth movement. Metal wires exposed to the oral cavity environment are susceptible to corrosion. The corrosion process cannot be stopped but can be inhibited using natural inhibitors that contain antioxidant compounds, such as tannins found in avocado seeds. Tannins in avocado seed extract can act as a corrosion inhibitor through two working mechanisms, a passive layer and an adsorption process. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the viability of avocado seed extract as a corrosion inhibitor on the surface characteristic of orthodontic wires. Method: This research is an experimental laboratory research.  A total of 48 orthodontic wires (stainless steel, nickel titanium, and Titanium-Molybdenum Alloy (TMA)) were prepared and divided into control and treatment groups. The treatment groups were immersed in avocado seed extract at concentration of 1.5 g/L (T-1), 2 g//L (T-2) and 2.5 g/L (T-3) for 7 days with twice daily immersion of 1 minute each. A TR 220 surface roughness tester (ΔRa) was used to evaluate surface characteristic. The data was analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test followed by post hoc LSD test with a significance value of p-value < 0.05. Result: The average surface roughness increased in all control groups except for stainless steel wire which did not show a significant difference with p-value = 0.716. Furthermore, the difference test between groups on each wire showed different results. Conclusion: Avocado seed extract is effective as a corrosion inhibitor for orthodontic wires.
