Abstract

Fecal incontinence (IF) is the inability to control the release of feces, often occurring in the elderly due to decreased physiological function of the pelvic muscles. Assessment of the severity of fecal incontinence requires a valid instrument such as the Fecal Incontinence Severity Index (FISI), which is based on a score to classify IF conditions. This community service activity was carried out with 93 elderly participants who took part in the FISI examination and education in order to increase understanding of the severity of fecal incontinence and the importance of preventive measures through early detection. The education program was carried out using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method which provides information related to risks, preventive efforts, and healthy lifestyle-based management steps. The average FISI score shows variations in severity among participants, providing an objective picture of the condition of the elderly. FISI acts as an important evaluation tool for monitoring and education, helping the elderly and their families understand their condition and take preventive measures. FISI examination in this program improves the quality of life of the elderly through effective education and prevention strategies

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a global health challenge, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Early identification of NCDs in the productive age group is very important considering the contribution of the productive age group to the national workforce and its impact on the health of future generations. This community service activity aims to increase awareness and participation in school-based non-communicable disease screening programs, especially at St. Yoseph High School, East Jakarta. The implementation of screening activities includes anthropometric examinations, blood pressure, blood sugar, and short interviews. Students with unhealthy lifestyles, such as lack of physical activity and unbalanced diets, are at high risk of developing non-communicable diseases. This activity encourages public awareness of the importance of maintaining health to prevent non-communicable diseases. This can reduce the global health burden and the economic burden for advanced disease care. Thus, this activity can improve the quality of life of the productive age population in the future.

Abstract

High blood pressure or hypertension is a significant global public health problem, especially in the productive age group (18-64 years). Hypertension often does not show symptoms in the early stages, but if left untreated, it can lead to serious complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney failure. This Community Service activity was carried out on teachers at Santo Yoseph High School, Cakung, East Jakarta. The purpose of this activity is to screen for hypertension through blood pressure checks. This activity was designed using the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) method as a sustainable method for processes or activities. The results showed that 27 teachers (38.04%) had high blood pressure. This screening program is important because it can increase public awareness of hypertension, which can be prevented by monitoring blood pressure early and regularly, so that it can improve overall health outcomes and quality of life.

Abstract

Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, which can increase due to high purine intake or impaired renal excretion. Accumulation of uric acid in the body is at risk of causing joint inflammation and other metabolic disorders. Early detection and dietary education are strategic steps to prevent complications of hyperuricemia. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach by examining uric acid levels using POCT and education on managing purine consumption. The examination was carried out on 62 adult participants. Educational leaflets were delivered directly and individually to each participant. All participants had uric acid levels in the normal range (median 4.2 mg/dL), with the lowest value of 3.5 mg/dL and the highest 6.5 mg/dL. Most participants were women and were in the middle to elderly age group. Although no cases of hyperuricemia were identified, preventive education remains essential to maintain uric acid levels within optimal ranges and reduce future metabolic risks. Lifestyle interventions focusing on diet and hydration are critical for sustainable uric acid control and long-term health outcomes. Abstract
