Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is a beneficial activity for both mother and baby. However, smooth breastfeeding is often hampered, especially in the first days after giving birth. One of the causes is a lack of stimulation of the hormones prolactin and oxytocin which play a role in the smooth production of breast milk. Breast milk production can be accelerated with non-pharmacological measures, namely through oxytocin massage. This study aims to analyze the effect of oxytocin massage on the smooth flow of breast milk based on literature analysis. The method used is a literature review through searches from the PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar databases using various Indonesian and English keywords. Sorting articles uses inclusion and exclusion criteria and PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines with 4 stages, namely identification, screening, eligibility, and acceptable results. The results of the search identified 907 articles, then they were screened and 507 articles were obtained, then at the feasibility stage 7 articles were obtained and it was decided that these 7 articles were acceptable. The results of the article review found that oxytocin massage provides comfort and relaxation to the mother and stimulates the release of oxytocin so that it can speed up the release of breast milk , while breast care will stimulate the production of lactifer (prolactin hormone) to accelerate breast milk production in postpartum mothers. In conclusion, the oxytocin massage method is effective in increasing breast milk production and facilitating milk production in post partum mothers. It is hoped that there will be further research regarding family involvement in the effectiveness of oxytocin massage intervention for post partum mothers.

Abstract

During labor, myometrial contractions can be painful. Labor pain is an unpleasant process and can increase uncoordinated uterine activity and prolong the labor process thereby endangering the life of the fetus and mother. Non-pharmacological efforts to reduce pain can use counter pressure/deep back massage techniques by placing pressure on the back pain area or sacrum. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of counter pressure/deep back massage in reducing pain levels in mothers giving birth based on literature analysis. The method used is a narrative review through searches from the PubMed, Garuda and Science Direct databases. Review articles using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method with 4 stages, namely identification, screening, feasibility, and acceptable results. The search results identified 579 articles, then they were screened and 32 articles were found, then at the feasibility stage 7 articles were found and it was decided that these 7 articles could be accepted. The results of the article review found that counter pressure massage and deep back massage can stimulate the body to release endorphins which act as pain relievers and provide a relaxing condition for the mother, thereby increasing circulation in the genital area and improving cervical elasticity. In conclusion, counter pressure massage and deep back massage are effective in reducing the pain level of women giving birth during the first active phase. Counter pressure massage is considered more effective than deep back massage.

Abstract

Pregnancy and childbirth are physiological processes that influence maternal mortality and morbidity risk factors. Proper mental and physical preparation is essential to prevent pathological conditions that may affect pregnant women. One effective intervention is engaging in physical activity, which positively impacts both the mother and fetus. This literature review aims to examine the relationship between physical activity and the health of pregnant women in physical, psychological, socio-economic, cultural, and environmental aspects. This study employs a literature review methodology using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and MetaAnalyses) approach. Article selection was conducted using the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) framework, with keywords such as “pregnant women,” “physical activity,” “sports,” “benefits,” and “exercise” in Indonesian and English. The literature search was performed using Sage Journals, Scopus, and Google Scholar for articles published between 2019 and 2024 also free full-text. A total of six relevant studies were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that physical activity offers significant benefits for pregnant women and fetuses, particularly in improving their quality of life both physically and mentally. Pregnant women in rural areas tend to be more physically active than those in urban areas, and light exercises such as walking or yoga help reduce the body’s burden, enhance sleep quality, alleviate stress, and prevent pregnancy complications. Further longitudinal research and education are necessary to understand the long-term effects of physical activity on pregnant women and to raise awareness of its benefits, especially in urban areas. Keywords: Maternal well-being, Pregnancy, Physical activity

Abstract

Menstrual hygiene is an essential aspect of maintaining the reproductive health of adolescent girls. However, a lack of awareness and limited access to sanitation facilities can increase the risk of reproductive tract infections. This study aims to describe the menstrual hygiene behavior of female students at Pondok Pesantren Raudlatul Mutaalimin Garut and identify areas that need improvement. This research used a descriptive quantitative design with a total sampling technique, involving 65 female students. Data were collected through a questionnaire covering aspects such as handwashing, bathing, sanitary pad usage, genital hygiene, physical activity, and nutritious food consumption. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented in frequency distribution tables. The results showed that most students demonstrated good menstrual hygiene behavior, particularly in handwashing (93.8%), genital hygiene (89.2%), and regular bathing (81.5%). However, less optimal practices were found in proper sanitary pad usage (21.5%) and nutritious food consumption (41.5%). While most students practiced good menstrual hygiene, further education is needed to improve their understanding of proper sanitary pad usage and the importance of consuming nutritious food during menstruation to support optimal reproductive health. Further research is suggested to focus on the factors causing bad behavior and the development of educational interventions to improve menstrual hygiene of students. Keywords: Menstrual hygiene, behavior, adolescent girls, female students.

Abstract

Iron Supplementation is a crucial intervention for adolescent girls, both in the present and for their future health. Adolescents, particularly females, are at a higher risk of developing anemia compared to other age groups, primarily due to increased blood loss during menstruation. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance adolescent knowledge regarding the role of iron supplementation in the prevention of anemia. The intervention employed a structured health education program delivered through PowerPoint presentations, informational leaflets, and educational videos. The program was conducted among 36 female students. Data were collected using pre- and post-intervention knowledge assessments, and analyzed by comparing the mean scores before and after the educational session. The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in knowledge, with the mean score increasing from 57.78 in the pre-test to 83.06 in the post-test. Based on these results, it is recommended that iron supplementation education be sustained and integrated into routine school-based supplementation programs to optimize awareness and compliance among adolescent girls. Keywords: Adolescent girls, anemia, blood supplement tablet, health eduacation.
