Abstract

This socialization activity aims to introduce and provide knowledge and insight to students at the SMA Negeri 3 Pematangsiantar about the TOEFL test. The socialization activity regarding the introduction of TOEFL to vocational school students, was held on January 18, 2024. Participants in this socialization activity were 11 grade vocational school students totaling 31 people. Participants gain new knowledge about the TOEFL test. There were three phases in conducting this socialization, namely preparation, implementation and evaluation. The results obtained from this socialization activity are, they know and understand what the TOEFL test is, types of questions in the TOEFL test, number of questions tested in the TOEFL test, duration and time for completing TOEFL questions, tips for studying TOEFL and also the importance of TOEFL test. This socialization can also increase student's motivation to study English more seriously. They can view the TOEFL exam as a challenge to overcome and as a first step towards success in their future academic and professional careers. From the results above it can be concluded that this activity gave a positive impact for the students in the future.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan analisis komparatif yang mendalam antara sistem pendidikan di Indonesia dan Malaysia melalui pendekatan studi literatur yang menyeluruh. Dengan mengumpulkan data dari berbagai sumber seperti buku, jurnal ilmiah, dan dokumen kebijakan, studi ini menyajikan pemahaman komprehensif mengenai perbedaan dan persamaan dalam berbagai aspek penting dari kedua sistem pendidikan. Fokus utama penelitian ini meliputi analisis pada beberapa elemen kunci: pertama, struktur sistem pendidikan di Indonesia dan Malaysia; kedua, tujuan utama pendidikan di masing-masing negara yang dipengaruhi oleh konteks sosial-budaya yang berbeda; ketiga, kebijakan kurikulum yang mencerminkan pendekatan pedagogis dan prioritas pembelajaran di kedua negara; keempat, kebijakan pendidikan yang diterapkan oleh pemerintah untuk mendukung pencapaian tujuan pendidikan nasional; dan kelima, evaluasi sistem pendidikan masing-masing negara berdasarkan efektivitas dalam mencapai standar pendidikan global. Melalui kajian komparatif ini, diharapkan dapat diperoleh wawasan yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana setiap negara membentuk sistem pendidikannya dalam menghadapi tantangan kontemporer, sekaligus memberikan rekomendasi kebijakan yang relevan bagi pengembangan pendidikan di kawasan Asia Tenggara.

Abstract

English is one of the general subjects that must be taken by every student in Vocational High School. English learning for students must be based on a learning needs analysis in order to obtain the benefits of learning English according to their needs. The purpose of this study was to analyze the needs, deficiencies, and desires of students in the English for Computer course and English teaching for SMK students majoring in Computer in class 11 of SMK Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar. The method used in this study is qualitative. This study uses a needs analysis with a survey design. The instrument used in this study was a semi-closed questionnaire. a series of questionnaires were distributed to 34 respondents from the computer department. From the needs analysis, it was found that students need English to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. The results of the study also showed that the purpose of students learning English is to compete in the world of work. The skills that are prioritized are speaking and reading skills with a focus on vocabulary related to computer science. In speaking skills activities, most students prefer to have a dialogue and then practice with friends.
