Abstract

Philosophy is not a construction of abstract concepts isolated from social reality and human experience. Yet, philosophy includes a study of language as well as logic and rhetoric. The nature of philosophy is determined by its genesis. Since the period of Greek philosophy, Socrates developed a philosophy as the fruit of a dialog with day-to-day human experience for attaining a higher degree of wisdom. All along its history, there were great philosophers who studied and developed a philosophical thought that address human problems or shed light to their questions. Indeed, a serious philosophical reflection is determined by its relevance and significance to the human struggle and experience.

Abstract

Virtue ethics as developed by Aristotle focuses on self development in a sense that right or wrong will be measured by the virtue which is needed for the excellence of the human person. Tere are many virtues, but the most fundamental is phronesis. Every body who has phronesis will act according to rational judgement. It is based on what is good and what is right for the development of human beings. Tis article tries to explicate the thesis that the national system of education in elementary school and high school which focuses on the character building is in line with virtue ethics. In this afnity, knowledge and practical skill get their meaning in the frame of character building. As Aristotle convinced that both phronesis and character can be formed through habituation, it suggests that habituation is the only way to enhance the moral and value education. Abstract

By the term "law" I mean system of law that exists in a political territory. Every system of law consists in some necessary elements such as basic laws or constitutions promulgated by the legislative, regulations made by the judicative, practical decrees announced by the executive. The article shall delvein the topic of ethical theory concerning the purpose of law. Why questioning ethically the purpose of law? By questioning it I try to draw what the ethical reasons of promulgating laws would be in political society. Consequently, every law should not be put into practice in a society, unless it is corresponding with that certain ethical reasons. In so doing, I shall survey the ideas of the seven political philosophers: Hobbes, Cicero, Locke, Aquinas, Bentham, Kant, dan Salmond. From this general survey, I discover that every theory has its own ethical reason which is in line with its anthropology and political philosophy. Besides, every theory finds necessary ethics in its own contemporary context. However, as Indonesia is struggling with law enforcement, it would be helpful to learnfrom their ethical theory of purpose of law.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to explore the connection between spirituality and entrepreneurship. Spirituality is a part of theology, and it has recently become an important topic in the field of economy particularly in entrepreneurship. Spirituality strengthens the commitment of entrepreneurs to advance their businesses, to help them deal with stressful situations, to sharpen the vision of their businesses, and to motivate them in keeping their business values. Spirituality also supports the entrepreneurs in giving meaning to their work, to increase their happiness, and to make them more loyal to the organization. By having a strong spirituality, the entrepreneurs can run their businesses not only to gain profits – for themselves and others – but also to enable them to better serve the people. Keywords: spirituality, entrepreneurship, theology, business, driving force, capital

Abstract

The history of human civilization has never failed to record the reality of poverty and social injustice. The poor and those who are victims of injustice have always been among us. Today there is a new awareness that classic humanitarian problems are inseparable from environmental problems. Destruction of the environment always results in impoverishment and human suffering. And, conversely, socio-economic marginalization often occurs as a result of exclusive control over natural resources. From an ethical perspective, human and environmental issues are essentially a matter of social injustice. This article intends to trace the views of the church's social teaching on the sustainable development and social justice. Some remarks are also given concerning the role and contribution of universities thereof.

Abstract

In recent years the charism and the spirituality of Jules Chevalier have been continously promoted by the Cor Novum Team from Issoudun, France, and then Cor Vitae Team from Manila, the Philipines. More and more lay people and religious women and men participate in the spirituality of the heart programs. This is indeed a blessing for all members of the Chevalier family. We seek deeper understanding of Chevalier’s charism and spirituality, but more importantly a way of life which roots in God’s love in human heart. This short article is intended to introduce the so-called pedagogy of the heart. It clarifies the meaning of the heart, and underlines that reflection or apperception is methodologically an absolute condition for those who wish to live daily the spirituality of the heart.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the relationship between utilitarian ethics and the use of social media by primary school children. This paper critically examines the potential positive and negative effects of social media use for primary school children from the perspective of utilitarian ethics. The hermeneutic method is a philosophical method that examines, explores and seeks meaning for a particular concept. The researcher tries to reflect and interpret the study of utilitarian ethics while providing a sharp analysis of the issue in the context of social media use for primary school children. The results of the analysis show that utilitarian ethics can influence the behaviour and use of social media for primary school students. The implementation of utilitarian ethics has both positive and negative effects on children's social media behaviour. The value of utilitarian ethics can develop children's digital moral behaviour such as altruistic attitudes, positive cooperation, productive and responsible actions, social awareness, being critical of social issues, and engaging in online learning communities using social media. The results of this analysis are expected to provide philosophical contributions for students to use social media more responsibly, wisely and in accordance with universal moral values.

Abstract

Leadership is always an interesting topic to discuss because of its dynamic nature. There is no one single standard leadership concept. Every era and every context requires unique leadership system, pattern, and approach. Leadership in the Church requires the spirit of a good shepherd (pastor bonus). That is the main theme of this article. Wherefore Catholic Church is taken as the context and perspective, the reflection on leadership in this article refers to the official views in Church documents and the belief of the Pope Francis in Rome as the leader of the Church. The research results from Covey and Collins are also presented to show that the demands for basic pastoral and leadership characters in the Church are appropriate and relevant to the spirit of leadership needed today. This research uses a qualitative method that relies on literature study and critical reconstruction of thoughts based on the bibliographic data collected.
