Abstract

Hypertension is a condition where a person's blood pressure exceeds normal limits. In order to detect hypertension and provide health education, this community service activity evaluates the basic characteristics and blood pressure of men and women of productive age at Kalam Kudus II High School, Duri Kosambi Village, Jakarta. A total of 68 respondents participated, consisting of 26 men (38.2%) and 42 women (61.8%), with the majority being in the 18-35 year age group (52.9%). The results showed that 77.9% of respondents had normal systolic blood pressure and 82.4% had normal diastolic blood pressure. However, 22.1% of respondents experienced systolic hypertension and 17.6% experienced diastolic hypertension, with the highest prevalence in the 51-64 year age group. These findings emphasize the importance of early detection and health education about hypertension to prevent serious complications such as stroke and heart disease. Prevention can be done by changing lifestyle, such as exercising, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and consuming foods high in fiber and low in salt. Collaboration with schools and health units is very important for regular monitoring and comprehensive education. This community service activity aims to increase awareness and quality of life for individuals of productive age through prevention and early screening for hypertension.

Abstract

Increased body fat, especially visceral adipose tissue, is associated with metabolic syndrome and other serious health conditions. Early detection of body composition is essential to identify individuals at risk for metabolic and musculoskeletal disorders, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and sarcopenia. Body composition can be examined using Karada Omron. The purpose of this community service activity is to determine the body composition of productive-age adults. This activity was carried out at Santo Yoseph High School, East Jakarta, involving 69 participants. This activity was designed using the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) method. The results showed that 11 men (15.94%) and 47 women (68.12%) had above-normal total body fat levels. As for the whole body skeletal muscle mass, 17 men (24.64%) and 33 women (47.83%) had below-normal muscle mass. Education about healthy eating patterns and regular physical activity is part of an effort to increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining a balanced body composition to improve overall quality of life

Abstract

Caffeine contained in coffee has a stimulating effect on the sympathetic nervous system, which can influence blood pressure. The Cold Pressor Test (CPT) is a method used to measure blood pressure response to cold-induced stress. This study aimed to compare the mean blood pressure between coffee-drinking and non-coffee-drinking medical students after undergoing the CPT. This research employed a quantitative experimental design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 89 students from the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Tarumanagara. Subjects were divided into two groups: coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the CPT intervention. The results showed that both systolic and diastolic blood pressure increased significantly in both groups after CPT. However, the increase in mean blood pressure, particularly diastolic pressure, was significantly higher in the coffee-drinking group compared to the non-coffee-drinking group (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that coffee consumption prior to CPT contributes to a greater blood pressure response. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in mean blood pressure between coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers following the Cold Pressor Test.

Abstract

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a condition where the heart suddenly stops functioning, leading to a lack of cardiac hemodynamic throughout the body. This condition, caused by a loss heart’s electrical activity, mostly occurs in public places such as offices, church, and so on. Quick and proper treatment for this condtion can reduce the mortality rate of those who experience it. Providing basic life support is an emergency treatment method for SCA. This method can be performed by anyone who is trained. Because this condition can occurs anywhere, such as in a church, it is necessary to prove basic life support training to staff, officers, and youth in those locations. Catholic church St. Mary the Vurgin Queen serves over 3.000 church members in Kebayoran, South Jakarta. As a public facility, SCA can occurs among church members, whether they are participating in religious activities or activities that support religious activities. Therefore, it is important for church staff and youth to be equipped with the ability to recognize the signs of SCA and perform initial treatment before medical personnel arrive or the patient is taken to medical facilities. This activities involves providing training to church staff and youth on recognizing SCA and performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). It it hoped that, after compliting this training, church staff and youth will be equipped to provide initial treatment for SCA.
