Abstract

This article aims to analyse the concept of Client Centered Therapy as one of the group guidance and counselling techniques in the perspective of the Qur'an surah Ar-Ra'd verse 11. More specifically, analyses on this article focus on how the Client Centred Therapy theory views humans, the purpose and techniques of therapy, as well as the relationship between the counsellor and the counselee. This article is based on descriptive-qualitative research. Data are obtained through triangulation techniques, which are then analysed interactively. The results show that the service techniques of guidance and group counselling, with reference to the Client Centered Therapy theory, are in line with the Qur'an surat Ar-Ra'd verse 11. Client Centered Therapy theory and the Qur'an surah Ar-Ra'd verse 11 similarly view that the service techniques of guidance and group counselling contain the meanings of giving opportunities, roles, and, at the same time, respecting the counselee as an active, potential, and empowered person in determining the direction towards his/her personal kindness.

Abstract

Old age is a vulnerable phase marked by declining physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being, especially when accompanied by neglect from family or social environments. This study aims to strengthen the psychospiritual condition of the elderly (integration of psychological self-awareness and spiritual growth of the elderly) through multicultural religious guidance enriched with Islamic family jurisprudence values. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with 11 stages, the program involved 32 elderly residents of the Bojongbata Social Service Home for the Elderly (PPSLU) in Pemalang as active participants. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, focus group discussions, and joint reflections. Initial assessments revealed that 27 out of 32 participants experienced psychospiritual issues such as anxiety, loneliness, and loss of spiritual motivation. Following the “Pesantren Lansia” (Elderly Pesantren) program intervention, there was a noticeable improvement in their religious participation, emotional stability, and self-esteem. Many resumed daily prayers, engaged in religious study groups, and expressed a sense of inner peace. This model proves effective in restoring life meaning through a contextual and compassionate spiritual approach and is recommended as a replicable model for faith-based community interventions for the elderly.

Abstract

This article examines the shift in the meaning of religious texts that transform from exclusive to inclusive in the book Abyan al-Hawāij by K.H. Ahmad Rifa’i. This reinterpretation of the text is given that the conflicts that occurred between the Rifa’iyah group and non-Rifa’iyah residents were mostly caused by the Rifa’iyah group’s textual reading of religious texts that were exclusive. This article reviews exclusive religious texts by showing their historicity (historical function), meaning development (meaning function), and implicative function (implicative function) in order to show a more proportional new meaning. The approach used in this study is hermeneutics of Gracia, critical discourse analysis of Fairclough, and intertextual of Kristeva. The analysis is focused on looking back at the structure of the text (textual analysis), the discourse built by the author (discursive analysis), and the socio-cultural practices surrounding the text. Hermeneutically, the text is then seen in terms of its historical function, the function of developing its meaning, and the function of its implications within the framework of the cultural function of the text. The results of the research show that the exclusive religious text in Abyan al-Hawāij is an oppositional and confrontational text built by the author as a response to the Dutch colonial socio-cultural and political realities in the archipelago at that time. Therefore, reading these texts must also see the discourse of the text. These texts actually have many meanings (multi-vocality). In principle, these meanings are equally acceptable in line with their respective discourses. Reading the exclusive text in Abyan al-Hawāij in the current era of religious tolerance and harmony requires understanding the historicity of the text so as not to get stuck in an exclusive understanding of religion.
