Abstract

This paper analyzes KH. Ahmad Bahauddin Nursalim's (Gus Baha') interpretation of Surah an-Naml verses 39-40 about the transfer of the throne of Queen Bilqis to the presence of Prophet Solomon a.s. This research is worth reviewing because there is a rejection of the interpretation by Gus Baha' in the Tafsir Jalālayn by Jalāluddīn al-Mahalli and Jalāluddīn al-Suyuṭi. This analytical descriptive study is derived from online media, namely the interpretation study by Gus Baha' published on the Santri Gayeng YouTube platform, making it a virtual ethnography.\. The author uses Labov and Waletzky's narrative structure analysis approach to explore Gus Baha's five interpretive structures, namely 1) Orientation, 2) Climax, 3) Evaluation, 4) Resolution, and 5) Coda. This study's results show that Gus Baha' rejects Jalaludin al-Suyuṭi's interpretation, which explains that Bilqis' throne emerged from under the chair. According to him, this does not make sense, which is isrāīliyyāt. Despite rejecting this interpretation, Gus Baha' gives his audience freedom regarding their belief in isrāīliyyāt. Gus Baha's rejection of isrāīliyyāt is based on his figure, who is a rationalist. This research also proves that the tradition of the cult of a tafsir essay that is quite phenomenal among pesantren is no longer done. Gus Baha' has succeeded in breaking the habit of pesantren in sacralizing a work of interpretation with his efforts to review the tradition of reading the book. The review was carried out by criticizing, reflecting, and understanding more deeply

Abstract

The majority of Thailand's population is Buddhist. However, there are four provinces in the southern part of Thailand that mostly Muslims inhabit. The UINSA International Community Engagement (UICE) delegation team was assigned to plunge into the Muslim community living in Thailand to revive the Qur'anic values in non-Muslim society. Thus, the Muslim population in Thailand would not lose the Qur'anic values even as a minority. This activity also tries to introduce Qur'an recitation art guidance to Muslims in Southern Thailand who are less familiar with this activity. Therefore, this paper aims to describe the activities of Al-Qur'an reading art education by providing intensive guidance on the recitation of Al-Qur'an as a form of community service. The approach used is a qualitative approach that is Asset Based Community Development that is conducted in five stages, namely initial preparation, analysis, designing expectations, program implementation, and results evaluation. The Qur'an recitation art guidance method involves intensive recitation guidance classes, periodic evaluations, performances, competitions, and presenting prizes. Based on the implementation of these activities, some significant achievements have been obtained to increase the potential of Qur'an recitation art of Attarkiah Islamiah Institute students.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyse the practice of Qur’an Journaling as a new tool that serves as a medium for learning tafsīr and disseminating religious content among the younger generation. This topic is worth reviewing due to the observed transformation of religious authority through social media, which has shifted traditional figures such as scholars and clerics to digital influencers, significantly impacting how audiences engage with interpretations. This descriptive-analytical study sources its data from online media, specifically Qur’an journaling content posted by the Instagram account @aisharizqy, making this research a form of virtual ethnography. Roger Fidler’s media morphosis approach is used to identify three critical concepts: co-evolution, convergence, and complexity. This approach is employed to explore further the process of media shifts concerning tafsīr references over time. The findings indicate that Qur’an Journaling is a manifestation of the transformation of the school (madrasah) of tafsīr, combining traditional religious practices with modern technology. Despite the novelty in the form of communicators and media, this practice remains rooted in existing oral and written traditions. Additionally, social media as an online community plays a role in reinforcing an individual’s religious identity through virtual religious symbols. These findings also indicate a contestation and shift in how religious authority is constructed and recognized in the digital era. This shift in authority has implications for the interpretation and citation of tafsīr among Muslims, who rely more on digital sources and social media. This transformation also reflects the emergence of a new phase in tafsīr learning that requires a critical evaluation of the validity and credibility of digital sources in the contemporary era.
