Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the role of imports in development in Indonesia, the research methods in this research are the library study method, the data collection technique used is secondary data with content analysis techniques. Import activities have a complex impact on human resources in Indonesia. On the one hand, imports can create new jobs for Indonesian people, especially in the distribution and trade sectors, but on the other hand, they can also threaten jobs in manufacturing and agriculture, where local production can compete less with cheaper imports, and import activities can have a positive and negative impact on poverty in Indonesia. The results of this study show that importing activities tend to have a negative impact on natural resources, i.e. they can reduce the sustainability of living resources, they can affect mineral resource sustainability, and they affect forest resources sustainability and reduce forest resource reserves. Import activities have a positive and a negative impact on poverty in Indonesia. The positive impact can occur when imports are used to meet the needs of raw materials or capital goods that are not available in the country, while the negative impact can lead to a reduction in employment and income for the people.

Abstract

Abstract

Poverty is a multifaceted problem that impacts people's lives in many ways, such as socio-cultural, educational, religious, and economic. Poverty has increased as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic in various countries, including Indonesia. The Indonesian government has responded by introducing a number of social assistance initiatives to help those affected by the pandemic. The purpose of this study is to assess how well social assistance programs are helping the underprivileged maintain their financial stability during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study, conducted in Binjai City, Indonesia, centered on the Direct Cash Transfer (BLT) initiative. The findings of this study show that the social assistance program had a beneficial and lasting impact on the local economy of Binjai City. Increases in community consumption, demand for goods and services, production, employment, and economic growth demonstrate this.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of changes in the inflation rate and unemployment rate on the rate of economic growth in the province of North Sumatra over a 10 year period. The technique for collecting data is secondary methods through the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency. The method used to test the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable is the classic SPSS assumption test with multiple linear regression measurements. This research resulted in 1) The inflation rate during the research period did not have a significant effect on changes in the rate of economic growth. 2) The changing unemployment rate also does not have a significant influence on changes in the level of economic growth in North Sumatra. The author hopes that further research can further increase assumptions and knowledge, especially variables that can explain the influence of inflation and unemployment rates on more recent levels of economic growth.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Local Own-Source Revenue and unemployment on the labor force participation rate in the regions of Java and Bali, with the Human Development Index (HDI) acting as a mediating variable. Using path analysis and EViews software, the research investigates both direct and indirect effects within a structural model. The results show that Local Own-Source Revenue has no significant direct effect on the labor force (p = 0.9100; direct effect = 0.004), and its indirect effect through HDI is also negligible. Similarly, unemployment does not have a statistically significant effect on labor force participation (p = 0.0966; direct effect = –0.205), nor does it show a significant indirect effect via HDI. These findings indicate that HDI does not mediate the relationship between Local Own-Source Revenue or unemployment and labor force participation in these regions. While HDI is widely regarded as a benchmark for human development, this study suggests it may not sufficiently explain labor force dynamics in the context of Java and Bali. Alternative factors such as the quality of education, economic diversification, urbanization, industrial structures, and access to digital infrastructure may have greater explanatory power. Future research is recommended to explore additional mediating variables and employ more detailed regional or sectoral analyses. Moreover, incorporating qualitative methods may help capture social and cultural dimensions that influence labor force behavior, thus offering a more comprehensive basis for policymaking.
