Abstract

Hair is an important aspect of a person's appearance. Hair in the elderly experiences a decline in quality which is often characterized by thinning, brittleness and loss. Vitamin D plays an important role in this condition because it affects the growth cycle of hair follicles. A deficiency can cause hair to become brittle and fall out easily. In this community service activity, education is provided to explain the importance of vitamin D and how to get it through a healthy diet and lifestyle. Screening using a hair analyzer shows problems with hair loss and low hair density as well as lots of dead skin cells. Effective education and nutritional interventions, including vitamin D supplementation, are essential to improve hair health and ultimately the quality of life of elderly. Treating vitamin D deficiency, including hair and scalp care, must be an integral part of the elderly's health program. Keywords: education, hair health, elderly, community service, vitamin D

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) occurs when blood sugar (glucose) levels are very high for a long period of time. If the glucose level is less than 126 mg/dL during fasting or less than 200 mg/dL two hours after eating, we diagnose diabetes. In low- and middle-income countries, DM affects as many as 422 million people and is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause severe complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, nerve damage, and vision problems. To prevent this complication, early detection through blood glucose checks is critical. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method for diabetes screening in adults at PT. Narindo, North Jakarta. The results of blood sugar checks showed that 5 people (3.97%) had blood sugar levels above normal. Increasing public awareness and knowledge about the risks of diabetes and healthy living is very important to reduce the incidence of diabetes so that it can improve overall health outcomes.

Abstract

Background: When a person reaches the age of over 60 years they are referred to as elderly. The elderly will experience a decrease in body function, or damage at the cellular and molecular levels that takes place slowly over a long time. This decline in body function can have an impact on increasing a person's blood sugar levels. Physical activity is known to have a very good role in maintaining a person's blood sugar levels to remain stable. However, in reality, many elderly people are less physically active due to physical limitations and lack of awareness of the importance of physical activity in old age. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and average blood sugar levels in the elderly in Ngrundul Village, Klaten Regency, Central Java. Methods: Analytic research with cross sectional method and collected 237 total samples from the elderly. The variables studied were physical activity and average blood sugar levels in Ngrundul Village, Klaten Regency, Central Java. Data collection using consecutive sampling technique and data analyzed using Kruskal Wallis test method . Result and Discussions: This study found that the sig value obtained was 0.860, which indicated that there was no effect of physical activity on current blood sugar in the elderly in Ngrundul village, Klaten, Central Java. (p = 0,86). Conclusion: This study did not find any relationship between physical activity and the mean of current blood sugar levels.

Abstract

Hemorrhagic stroke is a severe condition caused by the rupture of blood vessels in the brain, often resulting from uncontrolled high blood pressure. Routine blood pressure monitoring is a key preventive measure to detect hypertension risk and prevent hemorrhagic stroke complications, particularly among the productive-age population. This community service activity was conducted using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, which included counseling on risk factors, promoting healthy lifestyles, and blood pressure screening for 40 productive-age individuals. The results showed that the average participant age was 43.97 years, with 47.5% identified as having hypertension. These findings highlight the need for regular preventive interventions. The high prevalence of hypertension in this age group underscores the importance of health education to improve public awareness regarding blood pressure management. Recommendations include adopting a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding alcohol consumption, and maintaining routine blood pressure checks. Education and early detection play critical roles in reducing the risk of hypertension and preventing hemorrhagic stroke complications among productive-age adults.
