Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the effect of supplementation with concentrate on the cumulative in vitro gras production of rations made from natural grass. Natural grass is the primary source of fibre in livestock diets, especially for ruminant animals, and thrives in tropical regions. The high fibre content in field grass can have a positive effect on the digestive process. The following treatments were applied: T1 (40% natural grass + 60% concentrate-C1), T2 (40% natural grass + 60% concentrate-C2), T3 (40% natural grass 60% concentrate-C3), and T4 (40% natural grass + 60% concentrate-C4). The experiment used a randomized block design (RBD) involving four treatments and three replications. The variables observed were cumulative gas production, potential of degradation (b) and rate of degradation (c) values. The results revealed that the treatments significantly affected (P<0.05) cumulative gas production, with the highest value occurring in the T5 treatment (155.6 ml/500 g DM), followed by the T4, T3, T2 and T1 treatments (147.8, 138.0, 129.0 and 91.6 ml/500 mg DM, respectively), and potential gas production; however, the treatments did not significantly affect the b and c values. It can be concluded that, based on the research results, the concentrate containing the highest proportion of tofu waste had the highest cumulative gas production.

Abstract

Growing sheep using native grass or crop byproducts has been commonly practiced by farmers in East Java, Indonesia. Better growth rates can be achieved when protein and energy sources are combined in the ration. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of feeding cassava peel silage (CPS) and different protein sources on the growth of sheep fed a maize stover-based diet. Twenty-four growing sheep aged 8-10 months and weighing 17.24 ± 1.87 kg were used, and they were kept in individual cages that allowed the measurements of feed intake, feces, and urine secreted per animal. The treatments applied were T1: rice bran (0.75% BW)+Urea (2% CPS); T2: (50% rice bran + 50% copra meal in 1.5% BW); T3: cassava leaf hay (1% BW); and T4: sunflower leaf hay (1% BW). All treatments provided maize stover (MS) at 0.5% of body weight and CPS ad libitum. The variables measured were nutrient intake and digestibility, rumen fermentation, and live weight gain (LWG). The results revealed that the treatments had a significant increase (p<0.01) in the digestibility of CP, EE, CF, NDF, and ADF and reduced the amount of methane gas (CH4). Additionally, the treatments had a significant increase (p<0.01) in some variables such as N retention, LWG, and reduced FCR. Furthermore, the treatments significantly increased (p<0.05) NH3, propionic acid, and the C2/C3 ratio, but they did not have a significant effect on pH, acetic acid, or butyric acid content. In summary, the T3 treatment improved live weight gain (LWG) and decreased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) in thin-tailed sheep.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kualitas silase berbasis umbi dan daun ketela pohon (Manihot esculenta Crantz) sebagai pakan ternak ruminansia berdasarkan perbedaan varietas dan kandungan glikosida sianogenik. Penelitian menggunakan empat varietas ketela pohon, yaitu ketela pohon ketan (KE), ketela pohon jawa (JK), ketela pohon kuning (KU), dan ketela pohon kretek jawa (KJ), dengan enam ulangan pada setiap perlakuan sehingga terdapat 24 unit percobaan. Silase dibuat dari campuran daun dan umbi dengan perbandingan 1:10 melalui fermentasi anaerob selama 21 hari pada suhu ruang. Hipotesis penelitian ini adalah perbedaan varietas ketela pohon memengaruhi kandungan HCN bahan pakan, dan proses ensilase mampu menurunkan kadar HCN sehingga lebih aman digunakan sebagai pakan ruminansia. Kadar HCN dianalisis menggunakan metode spektrofotometri, sedangkan data dianalisis dengan ANOVA dan dilanjutkan uji Duncan apabila terdapat perbedaan nyata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar HCN campuran daun dan umbi sebelum ensilase berkisar antara 55,26–72,63 mg/kg, kemudian menurun menjadi 22,10–29,05 mg/kg setelah ensilase. Proses ensilase menurunkan kadar HCN sebesar 60,00% pada seluruh varietas. Kadar HCN tertinggi sebelum ensilase terdapat pada varietas KE, yaitu 72,63 mg/kg, sedangkan terendah pada KU, yaitu 55,26 mg/kg. Setelah ensilase, kadar HCN tertinggi tetap terdapat pada KE, yaitu 29,05 mg/kg, sedangkan terendah pada KU, yaitu 22,10 mg/kg. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa ensilase efektif menurunkan kandungan HCN pada ketela pohon dan berpotensi meningkatkan keamanan penggunaannya sebagai pakan ternak ruminansia.

Abstract

Kelompok Tani “Sampurna” masih menghadapi kendala dalam penyediaan pakan sapi potong, terutama rendahnya kualitas nutrisi pakan, belum optimalnya pemanfaatan bahan pakan lokal, dan belum tersusunnya ransum sesuai kebutuhan ternak. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan kualitas nutrisi pakan sapi potong berbasis bahan lokal melalui formulasi produk pakan, pengolahan pakan, dan penguatan kapasitas peternak. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif-deskriptif melalui observasi awal, penyuluhan, pelatihan, praktik formulasi dan pengolahan pakan, serta evaluasi hasil kegiatan. Produk pakan yang dihasilkan meliputi pakan steaming up, pakan flushing, konsentrat penggemukan, dan pakan lengkap. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kandungan protein kasar pakan steaming up, flushing, konsentrat penggemukan, dan pakan lengkap berturut-turut sebesar 16,43%; 15,34%; 14,40%; dan 12,20%. Pakan steaming up dan flushing memiliki kandungan protein lebih tinggi sehingga lebih sesuai untuk mendukung kebutuhan nutrisi ternak betina pada fase reproduksi, sedangkan pakan lengkap memiliki kandungan serat kasar tertinggi sebesar 21,41% sehingga lebih sesuai digunakan sebagai pakan harian. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa bahan pakan lokal dapat diolah menjadi beberapa produk pakan dengan kualitas nutrisi yang berbeda sesuai fungsi penggunaannya. Penerapan formulasi yang tepat, teknologi pengolahan pakan, dan dukungan sarana operasional mampu memperkuat sistem pengelolaan pakan yang lebih terencana, efisien, dan berkelanjutan pada tingkat kelompok peternak.
