Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of routine blood sugar screening programs in early detection of diabetes and preventing long-term complications in the community. This screening Program has proven effective in detecting cases of diabetes at an early stage, but the level of community participation still needs to be improved. Factors such as people's knowledge of diabetes, accessibility of health services, and social and economic conditions influence participation in the program. In addition, the challenges faced include limited infrastructure, a shortage of trained medical personnel, and the cost of screening which is an obstacle for some communities. Although this screening encourages positive behavioral changes, such as healthy eating and exercise, ongoing support through education and supervision is needed to ensure long-term changes. The study recommends improving access and quality of services, as well as health policies that support the sustainability and expansion of routine blood sugar screening programs.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes has developed into a global epidemic with a significant increase in prevalence, both in the world and in Indonesia. This disease not only impacts quality of life, but also places a large economic burden on the health care system. Although most diabetes interventions still focus on pharmacological treatment, non-pharmacological approaches such as nutritional interventions and increased physical activity have been shown to be effective in lowering blood glucose levels, increasing insulin sensitivity, and improving patients' metabolic profiles. However, the effectiveness of these interventions is highly dependent on patient compliance. Compliance with these interventions is influenced by psychological, socioeconomic, and health literacy factors. Intrinsic motivation and positive perceptions of the disease can increase patient commitment, while stress, depression, and limited access to healthy food and sports facilities can hinder compliance. High health literacy affects patients' understanding of treatment and their readiness to make behavioral changes. Approaches based on education, social support, and the use of digital technology can strengthen diabetes management and improve patient compliance. Therefore, effective interventions require a more personalized, interdisciplinary approach that is oriented towards long-term behavioral change to achieve sustainable results.

Abstract

The prevalence of prediabetes in children has shown a significant increase globally, including in Indonesia, along with lifestyle changes due to digitalization and urbanization. Children are now at risk of earlier onset of metabolic disorders, exacerbated by unhealthy diets, lack of physical activity, and high exposure to digital media and processed food advertisements. This condition often goes undetected due to the asymptomatic nature of prediabetes, while the transition to type 2 diabetes can occur without early intervention. This study uses a qualitative approach through literature studies to examine factors that influence non-compliance with prediabetes management in children in the digital era. Data sources were obtained from scientific journals and reports from trusted health institutions in the period 2015–2025, and analyzed using thematic techniques. The results of the study indicate that low health literacy, the dominance of a digital culture that supports a sedentary lifestyle, and minimal early detection in primary health services are the main obstacles. A cross-sectoral strategy involving families, schools, and the government is needed to increase awareness, strengthen nutrition education, and reform the child health care system to be able to face the challenges of prediabetes as a hidden epidemic in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia continues to increase along with changes in the lifestyle of urban communities who are less active and consume high-sugar and fat foods. Low awareness of early detection and minimal patient compliance with blood glucose monitoring are major challenges in managing this disease. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to explore the subjective experiences of diabetes patients in using Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) technology. The results of the study show that CGM is not only a real-time glucose monitoring tool, but also a trigger for behavioral transformation, self-empowerment, and increased patient compliance. However, structural challenges such as the high price of the device, the fact that CGM has not been guaranteed by BPJS, low digital literacy, and the gap in access between the upper and lower middle economic groups still hinder the widespread implementation of this technology. The adoption of CGM in Indonesia tends to be limited to certain groups, and has not become an integrated national strategy. Therefore, inclusive and data-based health policies, ongoing education, and financial support are needed to ensure equitable access. With a comprehensive systemic approach, CGM has the potential to revolutionize diabetes management towards a more preventive, personal, and sustainable paradigm in Indonesia..

Abstract

Rapid urbanization in Indonesia's urban areas has changed children's food consumption patterns, shifting from fresh and home-cooked foods to junk foods high in calories, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium. This change is driven by easy access, economic dynamics, and exposure to media and massive marketing, which shape food preferences from an early age. A food environment dominated by junk food narrows opportunities for healthy food consumption, while the busy urban pace of life encourages families to choose fast food as a practical solution. Socioeconomic factors influence the type and frequency of consumption, but dependence on junk food occurs across all levels of society. Low parental nutritional literacy, minimal promotional regulations, and the dominance of digital marketing reinforce this trend. Consequently, the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes in children has increased significantly, exacerbated by a sedentary lifestyle and low physical activity. Physiologically, a diet high in sugar and trans fats triggers insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and pancreatic β-cell fatigue. This phenomenon demands evidence-based, multidimensional interventions that include marketing regulations, food environment management, school-based nutrition education, and strengthening the role of families. Cross-sector collaboration and a continuous evaluation system are needed to simultaneously change socio-environmental determinants, so as to suppress the rate of the metabolic disease epidemic in urban youth.
