Abstract

Background: Total knee replacement (TKR) is a common orthopedic surgical procedure for advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA). Early mobilization is a rehabilitation strategy that needs to be considered to facilitate optimal recovery post-TKR. Despite the proposed benefits of early mobilization, there is no strong consensus in the literature regarding its effectiveness in post-TKR patients. Therefore, it is important to conduct a comprehensive literature review to evaluate existing evidence on the impact of early mobilization on post-TKR recovery. This will help strengthen understanding of the benefits and influencing factors on post-TKR rehabilitation outcomes. Method: This study is a qualitative research with a narrative review approach. Article searches were conducted using the online databases EBSCO, SCOPUS, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect. Literature identification was performed using the PICO search strategy. Results: The initial search with full-text articles yielded 4153 articles. Study selection was based on pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 20 final articles that will be qualitatively synthesized. Conclusion: Early mobilization is significantly associated with a reduction in the length of stay for post-TKR patients. Mobilization starting from day 0 of the operation will shorten the hospitalization duration. Additionally, early mobilization has been proven to decrease the risk of complications, thereby preventing prolonged care.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Yoga Exercise on functional activities in conditions of Osteoarthritis Genu based on collected literature. This research method uses a literature review approach. Literature was obtained from 3 databases: Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Pubmed. The research samples were Osteoarthritis Genu patients; over 18 years old; yoga exercise; male or female gender; year of publication on the last 10 years (2013- 2023); The variable measured is functional activity (WOMAC, KOOS, Gait Speed Test, SF-36, Sit to Stand Test). Exclusion criteria were non-knee osteoarthritis patients; do exercise other than yoga exercise. Based on 13 literatures that have been collected, it was found that the number of published literature in the last 10 years was 2 studies and in the last 5 years there were 11 studies with literature study designs, RCT and Quasi- Experimental. The number of participants was 614 participants, with male and female genders with an average age of 50-65 and above. The OAG criteria obtained on average were chronic OAG (>3-6 months); the results showed that yoga practice had a significant effect on functional activity with a p-value of p<0.05; the form of yoga exercise used predominantly was yoga exercise with the type of mat yoga with movements in the form of warm-up, breathing exercise, yoga posture, and meditation; with an average dose of 4-8 weeks, 2-5 times per week, with a duration of exercise for 30-60 minutes. After evaluating the results of the most significant influence on functional activity with average p-value of p<0.001. Overall, this study saw that there was a significant effect of yoga exercise on functional activities in Osteoarthritis Genu patients and there was an alternative form of modification of yoga practice in elderly patients, using chair yoga, with the conclusion that yoga practice must use high doses and intensity.

Abstract

BACKGROUND Game-based therapy has the potential to enhance patients’ participation in neurorehabilitation by making it more engaging and inspiring. Thus, this research aimed to investigate the efficacy and validity of a dance game simulator to improve eye-leg coordination diagnosis and treatment. METHODS 59 healthy participants aged 19–38 were assessed using a foot tapping test (FTT), lower extremity motor coordination test (LEMOCOT), modified agility ladder drill test, and total game score. The dance game system used 50, 100, and 150 beats per minute (bpm) songs to improve eye-leg coordination. The intervention group, consisting of 10 participants, received 15 sessions of 10-min play (3 songs each), while the control group, with 8 participants, had only 2 sessions: 1 at the start and 1 at the end. Rank correlation test compared game-based tests to validity, and t-tests analyzed pre- and post-game treatment results. RESULTS The validity of the LEMOCOT and the dance game with 100–150 bpm tempo in 59 healthy participants is showing correlation coefficients of r = 0.302 (right leg) and r = 0.305 (left leg), with p<0.01 for each leg. The dance game simulator improved FTT, left LEMOCOT, modified agility ladder drill test, and the overall dance game score after 15 sessions in the intervention group. However, these improvements were not statistically significant compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS Game-based therapy offers an efficient alternative to traditional eye-leg coordination testing, providing a practical, clinically effective home rehabilitation method. Further research could enhance neurorehabilitation outcomes.
