Abstract

Indonesia’s dependence on imported resistors must be addressed. Producing domestic resistors and using cheaper, more efficient materials is one way to reduce it. The purpose of this study was to determine the specific resistances of carbon film resistors produced from several natural materials. The carbon film resistors were made from 4 different charcoal materials: wood, coconut shells, banana peel, and durian peel charcoals. The fine natural charcoals were put into straws with different cross-sectional areas and lengths. The resistance was measured using a digital multimeter, and the specific resistance was subsequently calculated. The highest specific resistance was obtained by wood charcoal of 8.68x106Ωm, then followed by coconut shell charcoal, durian peel charcoal, and banana peel charcoal, which were 7.23x106Ωm, 4.91x106Ωm, and 4.37x106Ωm, respectively. Based on this research, wood, coconut shell, banana peel, and durian peel charcoals have the potential to be used as alternative materials to replace carbon film resistors.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the STEM career content in science junior high school textbooks commonly used for the seventh grade students in Indonesian schools. This research was qualitative descriptive research with content analysis. The analysis was carried out on five books that are widely used in the school. Reports and activities were analyzed using content analysis through an assessment rubric based on Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) which are awareness, relevance, engagement and self-efficacy. The analysis showed that the STEM career content in science junior high school textbooks were still lacking. The books were not sufficient in presenting content about careers in the STEM field. These results indicated that none of the five textbooks had fulfilled the four aspects of STEM career. The aspect most commonly found in the textbooks was self-efficacy, and the most observed STEM career content was found in the earliest chapter, which is Nature of Science. These findings highlight the importance of career oriented in science lesson that illustrated in the textbook to enhance students’ perception and enthusiasm in pursuing STEM career in the future.

Abstract

The context of ethnoscience-based learning in the Merdeka curriculum is related to socio-cultural studies. Following up on the uncommon science learning integrated with ethnoscience studies, especially in the socio-cultural realm, a content analysis of textbooks used in schools was conducted. This study aims to determine the potential of junior high school science learning using the Merdeka curriculum integrated into ethnoscience studies in the socio-cultural aspect. The research was conducted using the content analysis method, with the analyzed indicators consisting of 5 parts of values in socio-cultural. The results showed that science learning has great potential to be integrated with ethnoscience studies, considering that the textbooks have been able to present all value indicators in the socio-cultural. All indicators have been contained in the book in each chapter, except for spiritual value incarcerates. The appearance of all indicators in each chapter in the book provides information on the suitability of textbooks with the aim of curriculum. However, spiritual value indicators are still contained in only 2 chapters in the book, so it is necessary to strengthen spiritual values in each chapter in the book. Further research can be done by conducting content analysis with a more diverse number of books, so as to provide a broader picture of textbooks

Abstract

This study aims to explore students' ability to form argumentation patterns based on aspects of Toulmin's Argument Pattern (TAP) in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-based learning. Data collection was carried out through STEM-based worksheet which has 12 argumentation items that are in accordance with the Engineering Design Process (EDP) stages. The data was then analyzed qualitatively. This research was conducted at one of the junior high schools in Samarinda City in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The population in this study were all students of grade VII totaling 9 classes with a sample of grade VII-F consisting of 32 students. The results showed that the students' argumentation patterns consisted of several patterns, namely, Claim & Data (C-D); Claims, Data, & Warrants (C-D-W); Claims, Data, Warrants, & Backing (C-D-W-B); Claim, Data, Warrant, Backing, and Rebuttal (C-D-W-B-R) with the C-D pattern is the most common argumentation pattern. Students still need to be facilitated with learning that can guide students in forming more complex arguments so that an argumentation pattern is formed that includes warrant, backing, and rebuttal aspects.
