Abstract

Flooding is a natural disaster that often hits Indonesia with a detrimental impact, especially for the community, the loss can be in the form of loss of life and material. This research focuses on mapping flood-prone areas in Luwu Regency based on the Spatial Overlay Analysis method based on geographic information system (GIS) and formulating effective mitigation strategies for the people of Luwu Regency. based on the Spatial Overlay Analysis method based on geographic information system (GIS). There are 3 variables used in this research, namely Soil Type, Slope and Rainfall. The mapping results show that some areas in Luwu Regency have a high level of flood vulnerability. The implementation of this mitigation strategy is expected to reduce the risk and impact of flooding and increase community resilience to flood disasters in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

The infant burial tradition in Kalimbuang Bori’, Toraja, is an integral part of the local culture that is rich in symbolism, reflecting the community's beliefs about the cycle of life and death. This study aims to answer three main questions: first, the meaning and role of baby graves in the formation of social and spiritual values of the Kalimbuang Bori' community; second, the location selection and spatial interaction of the baby grave tradition with the natural environment that influences the community's culture; and third, the role of the younger generation of Toraja in preserving this tradition amidst the influence of modernization. Primary data collection methods were carried out through interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and direct observation in the field, while secondary data were obtained from scientific journal articles, map databases, and other research papers. The analysis method used is descriptive qualitative, which allows researchers to explore the meaning of this tradition in depth. This study adopts the Environmental Determinism Theory to explain how culture is shaped by the natural environment. The results show that the baby grave tradition reflects deep social and spiritual values and shows a close relationship between humans and nature. The role of the younger generation is very important in preserving this tradition so that cultural values remain alive amidst the challenges of modernization, and it is hoped that this research can provide deeper insight into the interaction between space and culture in the context of infant burials in Toraja.

Abstract

Sea surface temperature (SST) is a key parameter in the study of marine ecosystems, which plays an important role in determining the biological and physical dynamics of waters. This study analyzes changes in sea surface temperature in Saugi Island and its impact on coastal ecosystems. Using spatial analysis methods through remote sensing using Aqua Modis satellite imagery, sea surface temperature data were collected from August to September 2024. The results show that sea surface temperatures vary between 30°C and 36°C, with an average reaching 31.3°C. This increase in temperature has the potential to affect the metabolism and reproduction of marine organisms, as well as worsen the condition of coastal ecosystems due to seawater acidification and salinity fluctuations. This study aims to provide insight into the dynamics of sea temperature changes and the need for mitigation measures to protect ecosystems and improve the sustainability of coastal communities. This study is expected to be the basis for developing strategies in dealing with changes in sea surface temperature that have an impact on coastal ecosystems with mitigation efforts of the temperature monitoring network and eco wave initiative.

Abstract

The increase in population results in an increase in the amount of water supply needed to carry out all activities of the population.  Groundwater is a very important alternative source, especially during the dry season. This research aims to determine the distribution of groundwater potential in Pangkajene Regency and the islands which can be used as a reference and information regarding areas that have groundwater potential. By using the overlay method through the use of geographic information systems. This method is carried out by scoring each parameter used, namely giving a value and weighting according to the classification of each parameter. The analysis process was carried out with the help of the ArcGIS 10.8 mapping application. Based on the results of the analysis carried out in this research, it was found that Pangkep Regency as a whole has a moderate level of groundwater potential, this can be seen from the percentage of 60.26% of the total area of Pangkajene Regency or around 476.4302954 km2 has groundwater potential. which is being. In this case, the government needs to carry out regular monitoring and evaluation of groundwater conditions in areas with medium potential including Tondong Talassa, Minasa Tene, Pangkajene, and Bungoro sub-districts to ensure that the quality and quantity of groundwater do not decline to low or very low. As well as carrying out detailed exploration and inventory of groundwater potential in areas with high levels such as in the Mandalle, Marang, and Labakkang subdistricts.
