Abstract

A typical Toraja carving called Pa'sura' is one of the manifestations of Toraja culture. Toraja residents need to recognize the carving motif and understand the meaning behind it. Over time, Toraja carvings are not only used as decorations for tongkonan, alang, and ritual tools, but can be used as decorations such as key chains, cloth motifs, and so on. However, there are still many children in the Sandabilik Village who are less interested in carving because the Toraja carving motifs are very complicated. The motifs in Toraja carvings have geometric patterns. There are several geometric concepts that exist in carving motifs, including points, circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, diamonds, trapezoids, parallelograms, and kites, symmetry, translation, rotation, dilation, and reflection. The objectives of this PKM activity are (1) to introduce Toraja culture, especially carvings and their meanings to children in Sandabilik Village; (2) introduce the geometric concepts contained in the Toraja carving motifs; and (3) providing assistance on how to carve by utilizing mathematical concepts. The stages carried out in the service are socializing about Toraja culture including the introduction of carvings and their meanings, identifying mathematical concepts on motifs, reviewing the identified mathematical concepts, and carving using mathematical concepts. This activity can make children able to carve by utilizing the dominant geometric concept in carving motifs. Carving using mathematical concepts can make: (1) children are able to apply their mathematical knowledge to culture; (2) children will better understand and experience cultural activities from a mathematical point of view, thus enabling them to make connections between school mathematics and the real world. Carving activities for children can also develop children's visuospatial reasoning. Visuospatial reasoning can make children more creative in solving everyday problems.

Abstract

Penalaran visual merupakan salah satu kompetensi penting dalam pembelajaran matematika sekolah termasuk geometri. Membelajarkan siswa menggunakan media ukiran Toraja diharapkan dapat membantu siswa dalam mengembangkan kemampuan penalaran visual. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeksripsikan proses penalaran visual siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal geometri berbasis etnomatematika pada motif ukiran Toraja. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif. Pengumpulan data diawali dengan memberikan soal geometri yang menampilkan ukiran Pa’dadu kepada siswa kelas IX di salah satu SMPN di Toraja Utara. Berdasarkan jawaban siswa, dipilih dua subjek dalam penelitian ini. Selanjutnya, kedua subjek tersebut diwawancarai untuk mengetahui proses penalaran visualnya. Tahapan análisis data yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa Terdapat tiga tahapan penalaran visual siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal geometri yang ditampilkan dalam ukiran Pa’dadu, yaitu investigasi, interpretasi, dan aplikasi. Bernalar secara visual dimulai ketika siswa secara komunikatif mendeskripsikan hasil identifikasi dan hubungan motif yang ada dalam ukiran Pa’dadu dengan konsep matematika, menghubungkan antar konsep matematika yang terdapat dalam ukiran, dan selanjutnya digunakan untuk menyelesaikan soal. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan proses penalaran visuospasial siswa terhadap ukiran Toraja (ukiran pa’pollo songkang dan pa’kapu baka). Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu kualitatif deskriptif. Data diperoleh dari hasil tes yang terkait ukiran kemudian dilanjutkan dengan wawancara. Proses pengumpulan data melibatkan 21 siswa kelas XII Pada salah satu SMA di Tana Toraja. Selanjutnya dipilih dua jawaban yang berbeda untuk dideskripsikan jawabannya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang disajikan gambar berupa ukiran pa’pollo’ songkang dan pak’kapu baka akan dipicu untuk melakukan penalaran secara visuospasial. penalaran visuospasial melibatkan penalaran visual dan pemikiran spasial. Penalaran visual pada ukiran pa’pollo’ songkang dan pak’kapu baka dimulai dengan memahami informasi yang disajikan dalam ukiran, memperhatikan bentuk berdasarkan ciri khusus, posisi, warna dalam motif ukiran. Subjek dapat menjelaskan pola dan hubungan antara bentuk dalam ukiran. Pemikiran spasial terjadi ketika siswa melakukan dissembedding (pembongkaran), rotasi, refleksi, dan traslasi bentuk-bentuk dalam motif ukiran.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of creative mathematical reasoning in improving students' numeracy literacy within the framework of the Independent Learning Curriculum. Numeracy literacy is a crucial competency that enables learners to comprehend and address real-world problems using mathematical concepts and skills.  The Merdeka Learning Curriculum provides space for innovative approaches in learning, including the application of creative mathematical reasoning to improve students' numeracy literacy skills. Using a quantitative quasi-experimental design, the study involved junior high school students divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The findings revealed that the experimental group achieved a higher average score (M = 78.9; SD = 10.53) compared to the control group (M = 67.8; SD = 5.30). Statistical analysis using paired and independent t-tests confirmed a significant improvement in the performance of the experimental group (p < 0.05). The results demonstrate that creative mathematical reasoning significantly enhances students' comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The study concludes that integrating creativity-based reasoning strategies is aligned with the Independent Learning Curriculum and offers valuable guidance for teachers to design more innovative, student-centered math learning experiences.
