Abstract

Workers in the informal sector, such as waste pickers, face significant health risks due to exposure to waste containing dangerous pathogens. In Kuranji District, Padang City, especially in Gunung Sarik and Kalumbuk Subdistricts, workers at scrap yards are involved in various work processes, including weighing, sorting and maintaining mechanical equipment. Working conditions in these places often do not meet safety standards, such as the lack of use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, boots, helmets and gloves. The aim of this activity is to empower workers at used goods storage to promote Occupational Safety and Health (K3). The activity methods are counseling and demonstrations, providing Personal Protective Equipment and Posters, and pretest and posttest questionnaires to measure public knowledge regarding K3 culture to reduce the risk of work accidents to workers. Results: there was an increase in knowledge after being given counseling and workers were enthusiastic about asking questions during the counseling process. Conclusion: It is important to provide empowerment and education regarding Occupational Safety and Health (K3) culture to workers at used goods shelters in Kuranji District, Padang City, to reduce risks and improve their welfare.

Abstract

Cutlery is one of the factors that play a role in disease transmission, because cutlery that is not clean and contains microorganisms can transmit disease through food. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the washing process and the Total Plate Count on lotek seller plates in Surau Gadang Village, Nanggalo District in 2022. This type of research is descriptive. When the study was conducted in January - May 2023. The population of this study was 10 lotek sellers who were observed in washing facilities and washing techniques, while for the Total Plate Count Test samples were taken by purposive sampling method on 4 lotek sellers. Data obtained from the inspection results are processed manually and presented in tabular form. Dish washing facilities for 10 lotek sellers are 5 bad lotek sellers. Dish washing technique with 4 lotek sellers is not good. Total Plate Count in 4 lotek seller samples did not meet the requirements based on the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1096 / Menkes / Per / VI / 2011 About Jasaboga Sanitary Hygiene. Based on the results of the research, it is known that the washing process influences the results of the Total Plate Count so that none of the lotek seller plates in Surau Gadang Village are eligible. Therefore, it is recommended that lotek sellers wash dishes using running water.

Abstract

Household waste management is an important environmental and public health issue, especially in areas with high stunting rates, where overall community health can be compromised due to poor sanitation practices. This study explores the implementation of a waste bank system in stunting-prone areas in the working area of the Ambacang community health centre in Padang city. Waste banks function as a community-based approach to managing household waste by encouraging residents to separate and store recyclable materials in exchange for financial benefits. It also aims not only to reduce environmental pollution but also to empower local residents economically and improve public health. This service examines the effectiveness of waste banks in changing household waste management behaviour, their contribution to reducing health risks associated with waste mismanagement and their potential to alleviate stunting through improved environmental sanitation. The waste bank model encourages greater community involvement in waste segregation and recycling thus contributing to a cleaner living environment.
