Abstract

The program of utilizing organic waste as compost to improve agricultural productivity in Semare Village aims to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers by utilizing organic waste as an environmentally friendly fertilizer. This program involves the local community in waste segregation and composting training, which can be used to improve soil quality and agricultural yields. Despite facing challenges such as limited infrastructure and resources, this program successfully raised environmental awareness, empowered the community, and improved agricultural productivity sustainably. With active community participation, the program has the potential to reduce waste in Semare Village and create new economic opportunities.

Abstract

This community service project aims to explore the potential of mbote (taro) as a value-added product to enhance economic resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project focuses on transforming traditional mbote into mbote chips and improving the branding and marketing strategies of local sellers in Pabean Sedati Village, Sidoarjo Regency. Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology was applied to assist sellers in developing unique packaging, creating brand identity, and utilizing online platforms for marketing. The results indicate that the innovation positively impacted product visibility, consumer engagement, and business sustainability despite the economic challenges posed by the pandemic. The project demonstrates the effectiveness of small-scale innovations in enhancing the market competitiveness of local agricultural products and provides a model for rural entrepreneurship during crisis periods.

Abstract

The Integrated Competency-Based Community Service Program (KPM-IK) in Sidoharjo Village focuses on improving educational skills among local educators and community members. The main objective of this program is to enhance the quality of education by providing relevant training in teaching skills and curriculum development, tailored to local needs. The program employs Participatory Action Research (PAR) as its approach, where students collaborate with the community to identify educational challenges, design training modules, and implement solutions. This method ensures active community participation in the process. Results indicate a significant improvement in teaching skills, with participants showing enhanced abilities in class management, effective teaching methods, and the integration of technology in education. The program has successfully empowered the local community to contribute to sustainable improvements in education, fostering a more effective learning environment in Sidoharjo.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the effect of fermentation time using hanging papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya var. pendens) as a source of papain enzyme on caffeine content and organoleptic properties of Liberica coffee (Coffea liberica). Papaya leaf extract with 80% concentration was applied to Liberica coffee beans with fermentation time variations of 24, 36, and 48 hours. Caffeine content analysis was performed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 273 nm. The results showed that fermentation duration significantly affected caffeine reduction. At 24 hours fermentation, the caffeine content of the treated sample (1.374 ppm) was relatively similar to control (1.357 ppm). The 36-hour fermentation showed a decrease in caffeine in the treated sample to 1.225 ppm compared to control (1.281 ppm), while the most significant reduction occurred at 48 hours fermentation with caffeine content of 1.145 ppm in the treated sample compared to 1.530 ppm in control (25.16% reduction). The mechanism of caffeine reduction involves the proteolytic activity of papain enzyme which hydrolyzes the protein-caffeine complex and modifies the permeability of coffee bean cell membranes. This research provides a foundation for the development of an enzyme-based natural decaffeination method for Liberica coffee, although further optimization is needed to meet commercial decaffeinated product standards.

Abstract

Kopi merupakan komoditas perkebunan bernilai ekonomi tinggi, namun konsumsi kafein yang berlebihan dapat menyebabkan gangguan kesehatan. Metode dekafeinasi konvensional umumnya menggunakan pelarut organik yang berpotensi meninggalkan residu berbahaya, sehingga diperlukan alternatif yang lebih alami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh konsentrasi sari daun pepaya gantung (Carica papaya var. pendens) sebagai sumber enzim papain terhadap proses dekafeinasi kopi Liberika (Coffea liberica). Metode yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan satu faktor yaitu konsentrasi sari daun pepaya gantung (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, dan 80%) dengan durasi fermentasi 36 jam dan tiga kali pengulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya korelasi positif antara konsentrasi sari daun pepaya gantung dengan penurunan kadar kafein. Penambahan sari daun pepaya gantung konsentrasi 20%, 40%, dan 60% mampu menurunkan kadar kafein masing-masing sebesar 10,04%, 38,50%, dan 49,19% dibandingkan sampel kontrol. Pada konsentrasi 80%, kadar kafein berada di bawah batas deteksi metode yang digunakan, mengindikasikan degradasi kafein hampir sempurna. Mekanisme degradasi kafein oleh enzim papain diduga melalui hidrolisis ikatan C-N pada struktur purin kafein, menghasilkan metabolit yang lebih sederhana. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan potensi sari daun pepaya gantung sebagai agen dekafeinasi alami yang lebih ramah lingkungan untuk menghasilkan kopi Liberika rendah kafein.

Abstract

Bakteri pengoksidasi sulfur menjadi asam sulfat mampu diisolasi dari area masam atau yang bersifat asam. Sungai Kejayan Pasuruan dialiri oleh limbah industri penyamakan kulit yang bersifat asam. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendapatkan bakteri penghasil asam sulfat. Isolasi dan seleksi bakteri penghasil asam sulfat dari tanah sungai Kejayan menggunakan medium tiosulfat. Isolat murni diperoleh menggunakan metode streak plate tipe goresan kuadran. CuFeS2 digunakan pada proses Biooksidasi, metode turbidimetri digunakan untuk mengukur kadar asam sulfat, serta kadar [Fe] dan [Cu] pada media biooksidasi diuji menggunakan AAS. Isolat K.2 terseleksi sebagai bakteri penghasil asam sulfat dengan perolehan kadar sulfat [SO4 2 ] tertinggi 13,9 ppm pada jam ke-48.
