Abstract

Retrieval practice is a well-known additional learning strategy after class to maintain long-term memory. This study investigates its effect on students' concept mastery, cognitive ability, and cognitive anxiety in learning about the immune system. Using purposive sampling, 128 eleventh-grade students from a public school in Bandung were divided into two groups: 67 in the experimental group and 61 in the control group. In both groups, immune system learning was given three times over three weeks, and retrieval practice was given three days after classroom learning through Google Forms. Concept mastery and cognitive ability were assessed with a 30-item multiple-choice test, while cognitive anxiety was measured with a 27-item questionnaire with nine scales. To see the effect of retrieval practice and the relationship between the data, they were analyzed using T-test or Mann-Whitney and Spearman's rank. The results showed that retrieval practice significantly improved concept mastery and cognitive ability, and reduced students' cognitive anxiety. However, there was no correlation between concept mastery and cognitive anxiety. These results suggest that cognitive anxiety is not related to concept mastery. Cognitive anxiety is more directly affected by retrieval practice.

Abstract

Biomolekuler dan bioteknologi merupakan dua bahasan yang penting dalam pembelajaran biologi, untuk membekali siswa pemahaman biomolekuler dan bioteknologi yang baik diperlukan strategi pembelajaran yang efektif berupa pendekatan, model, metode, dan media pembelajaran yang digunakan di dalam kelas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untukĀ  mengkaji dan menganalisis strategi pembelajaran yang telah diimplementasikan dalam mempelajari bioteknologi dan biomolekuler. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kajian literatur dengan menganalisis strategi pembelajaran pada materi biomolekuler dan bioteknologi. Analisis kajian literatur dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan publikasi dari Google Scholar dengan periode 10 tahun terakhir. Hasil analisis strategi pembelajaran dijabarkan secara rinci, meliputi pendekatan pembelajaran, model pembelajaran, metode pembelajaran, dan media pembelajaran yang mendukung pembelajaran biomolekuler dan bioteknologi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran biomolekuler dan bioteknologi akan lebih efektif dengan pendekatan kontekstual, model problem based learning, metode diskusi dan tanya jawab, serta didukung oleh media pembelajaran augmented reality. Kajian mengenai strategi pembelajaran ini diharapkan dapat menjadi landasan dalam pemilihan dan penggunaan strategi pembelajaran yang paling baik dan efektif digunakan pada materi pokok bioteknologi dan biomolekuler.

Abstract

Ontogeny is the process of individual development from embryo to adult, while phylogeny is the analysis of evolutionary relationships between species. Ontogeny and phylogeny form the basis for understanding the development of organisms and the history of evolution, as well as for further studies in biology. This research aims to analyze the urgency of studying ontogeny and phylogeny in high school biology learning. The research was conducted using a literature study method on articles and references relevant to the topic. The analysis of the literature indicates an urgency to study ontogeny and phylogeny in high school biology learning. Supported by appropriate learning approaches and models, knowledge related to ontogeny and phylogeny needs to be taught to high school students to enhance their understanding of more complex biological concepts.

Abstract

Socioscientific issues in biotechnology are an educational context that can be implemented in the classroom. Teaching socioscientific issues in biotechnology can develop students' argumentation and critical thinking skills. Examples of socioscientific issues in biotechnology include the production of insulin from animal (pig) pancreases, cloning, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). One way to teach socioscientific issues in biotechnology is through the debate method. This study employs a systematic review method to examine the implementation of the debate method on socioscientific issues in biotechnology. Technological innovations in teaching that can be utilized include the Padlet platform for visualizing ideas and debate concepts and Voice Typing technology to support the learning process through the debate method. The review results indicate that implementing the debate method on socioscientific issues in biotechnology with the assistance of Padlet and Voice Typing technology can be a technological innovation in teaching methods. Abstrak. Isu sosiosaintifik pada materi bioteknologi merupakan salah satu konteks pembelajaran yang dapat diimplementasikan di dalam kelas. Pembelajaran yang mengangkat isu sosiosaintifik pada materi bioteknologi dapat mengembangkan keterampilan literasi sains pada siswa. Beberapa contoh isu sosiosaintifik pada materi bioteknologi adalah isu produksi insulin dari pankreas hewan (babi), kloning, dan tanaman transgenik atau genetically modified organism (GMO). Salah satu cara membelajarkan isu sosiosaintifik pada materi bioteknologi adalah menggunakan metode debat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode systematic review yang mengkaji implementasi metode debat pada isu sosiosaintifik materi bioteknologi. Adapun inovasi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi yang dapat digunakan adalah platform Padlet sebagai media visualisasi ide dan gagasan debat, serta teknologi Voice Typing untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran dengan metode debat. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode debat yang dibantu platform Padlet dan teknologi Voice Typing dapat menjadi salah satu inovasi metode pembelajaran berbasis teknologi untuk mengajarkan isu sosiosaintifik materi bioteknologi.
