Abstract

The Balian Bawo ritual is a healing ritual carried out by men and is believed by the Dayak community of Dusun Maanyan and Lawangan (Dusmala). In ritual processions, it is closely related to asking for help from ancestors to get healing instructions. This research aims to uncover the ritual communication contained in Balian Bawo, which is communication between ancestors and the Balian Bawo. Researchers used hermeneutical phenomenology methodology by taking 6 people as sources. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the research show that Balian Bawo ritual communication is seen in three ways, namely 1. Communication is with communicators, namely Balian and ancestors as communicants to convey messages about healing instructions through the intermediary of sowing rice which then includes dance and the sounds of bracelets as a connecting frequency amplifier; 2. Communion in the Balian Bawo Ritual in traditional medicine occurs not because of periodic activities every year, but is present when people need treatment; and 3. Common means that the local community can help the family prepare for the Balian Bawo Ritual activities and the Balian Bawo ritual procession can be followed by the local community as long as they comply with the existing regulations during the activity procession which is a form of community awareness of the existence of the Balian Bawo healing ritual.

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, university students increasingly confront ethical violations on social media platforms, ranging from privacy breaches to cyberbullying and misinformation. This study investigates how students in Banggai Regency, Indonesia, perceive and respond to unethical content encountered online. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in depth interviews and digital observations with active social media users across multiple platforms. Thematic analysis guided by Miles and Huberman’s model revealed that students employ a combination of cognitive appraisal and avoidance strategies, including skipping, unfollowing, reporting, blocking, and content filtering, to navigate unethical digital environments. Findings highlight the role of psychological resilience, digital literacy, peer norms, and platform design in shaping student behaviors. Furthermore, student led initiatives such as digital ethics campaigns and peer fact checking groups emerged as critical interventions promoting responsible digital engagement. These insights underscore the transformative potential of youth agency in fostering ethical online cultures. The study contributes to the broader discourse on digital citizenship by emphasizing the need for integrated digital ethics education and collaborative policy interventions.

Abstract

This narrative review examines the complex landscape of communication in multinational corporations (MNCs), focusing on intercultural and structural challenges that affect internal communication and organizational cohesion. The study aims to synthesize recent findings and evaluate the effectiveness of current strategies in overcoming barriers such as language differences, cultural misalignments, and hierarchical communication structures. Using a structured review approach, the research draws on peer-reviewed literature from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, analyzing thematic insights from qualitative and quantitative studies published over the past decade. The findings confirm that intercultural communication challenges—particularly language barriers and cultural diversity—remain persistent in MNC settings. Additionally, hierarchical organizational structures inhibit information flow and reduce employee engagement. Notably, the dominance of English as a corporate language can both facilitate and obstruct communication depending on local employees' proficiency levels. However, digital communication platforms and adaptive strategies that consider local cultural contexts have shown promise in mitigating these issues. The discussion emphasizes the importance of revisiting organizational communication policies, encouraging flatter hierarchies, and investing in intercultural training. These measures are key to fostering inclusive, responsive, and effective communication ecosystems. This review contributes to the literature by bridging systemic insights with practical implications, suggesting that a balanced global-local communication approach is critical for organizational resilience in diverse international contexts.
