Abstract

Language acquisition is a process that takes place in a child's brain when he acquires his first language or mother tongue which means language acquisition in relation to his first language. This study aims to analyze the acquisition of Indonesian phonology in Down syndrome children. This study was conducted on 5 Down syndrome, age range of 6-9 years.  This study use Blumstein's theory of speech changes is used to determine the change of speech sounds and Jacobson's theory is used to determine the acquisition of phonology Indonesian and Jean Piaget's theory is used to describe the language development of them. The method used is proficient and record. It was found that the five respondents in pronouncing several words there was a change in the sound of speech, namely sound Deletion (Omision), sound addition (Addition), and sound replacement (Substitution). They have also acquired some of the Indonesian vowel sounds [i], [ u], [e], [o] and [a]. They can produce several vowels sounds either at the beginning, middle or end words. There are some consonants that have been acquired Indonesian and there are some consonant sounds that have not been obtained, [w], [f]. [z], and [h]. The phonological development is the stage of holoprastic. Their chronological age is 6 to 9 years, but the age of language acquisition is equivalent to the age of two years.

The method used in data collection is the listening method embodied in the tapping technique and when necessary the researcher uses the listening technique with the recording technique. The results showed that the findings in Japanese in jougei kankei (seniority relationship) determine the type of language used in communication. Language levels include the variety of ordinary forms (Futsu) in informal conversations and polite forms (Teinei) respectful forms (Keigo) in formal conversations. The finding of Javanese language that the situation of diglossia between speakers of Javanese speech community in Asahan dominantly occurs in familiar symmetrical and familiar asymmetrical situations. In the familiar symmetrical situation, all language varieties used are ngoko lugu variant forms. The relationship of social factors that are parallel and the relationship of familiar closeness between speakers causes the use of ngoko varieties with the variant form of ngoko lugu between speakers, while in familiar asymmetrical situations it is dominated by using the form of ngoko lugu, the rest are variant forms of ngoko alus and ngoko alus-ngoko lugu and lugu krama varieties.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the types of phonological disorders in Indonesian-speaking stroke patients and to determine the disturbed dominant hemisphere based on the structure of these phonological disorders. The data are obtained from the utterances of stroke patients who experience difficulty in producing speech. Data are collected using the listening method related to language disorders in stroke patients with basic recording techniques, followed by the technique of free listening without speech involvement. Data analysis uses the matching method, with the basic technique being the KES (Key Element Segregation) technique, which involves categorizing phonological disorders such as addition, omission, substitution, or metathesis in vowel and consonant sounds. Additionally, the dominant disturbance in either Broca's or Wernicke's areas, as viewed through the phonological disorders, is identified. The results show that phonological disorders occur more frequently in consonant sounds (54.66%) compared to vowel sounds (45.33%) in stroke patients. Sound omission and substitution are the two most common types of disturbances observed. The analysis also suggests that phonological disorders in most stroke patients are related to disturbances in the dominant hemisphere, particularly in Broca's area, which controls speech sound production.

Abstract

This research discusses the importance of Ulos Batak Toba in globalization and the important role of Gen Z in understanding, maintaining, and promoting it. Ulos, a typical Toba Batak woven fabric, has a very important cultural value, but modernization has reduced its importance. Generation Z is more likely to perceive Ulos as old-fashioned and visually unappealing, posing a threat to its preservation. This research studies the different types of Ulos in Toba Batak and their important role in daily life and cultural beliefs. Ulos represent celebratory symbolism, high values, and cultural identity for the Batak people. As agents of change in the digital era, Gen Z bears the responsibility to preserve Ulos, although their modernistic views and disregard for tradition jeopardize its preservation. This research aims to trace the development of Ulos in social, historical, and symbolic frameworks, and explore how Gen Z's perspective impacts the sustainability of Ulos in the midst of globalization. Conducted through a literature review approach, this research emphasizes the need for comprehensive education and socialization on the cultural values embedded in Ulos, and highlights the potential of Gen Z to actively preserve this heritage.

Abstract

Many individuals with normal or even above-average intelligence experience difficulties in reading, writing, and speaking without any apparent sensory or educational causes. This condition is known as dyslexia, which often goes undetected early on and has a negative impact on language learning processes. This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the types of dyslexia, its neurological causes, and effective intervention strategies to minimize language barriers for individuals with dyslexia. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subject consists of one individual with dyslexia who exhibits significant difficulties in reading, writing, and speaking. Data was collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation related to the subject's language development. Research instruments include interview guides and structured observation sheets. Data was analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns of language disorders and their causal factors. The results of the study indicate that dyslexia is a neurological disorder that affects the left hemisphere of the brain responsible for language processing. Two types of dyslexia were identified: developmental dyslexia, which is genetic, and acquired dyslexia, which results from brain damage. Although it cannot be cured, the disorder can be minimized through intervention and specialized learning strategies. The study concluded that early diagnosis and individualized learning approaches are crucial for supporting literacy skills in individuals with dyslexia. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of teacher training and the provision of specialized pedagogical strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
