Abstract

Forensic entomology is crucial in providing information related to insects and legal cases involving both animals and humans. Insects serve as indicators of the time of death, with their presence influenced by the cause and placement of the corpse. This study aims to examine the effect of carcass placement on insect arrival. The method used in this narrative review involves searching for articles with the same or similar topics to obtain data relevant to the topic under discussion. The results of this narrative review revealed that insects arriving on rabbit carcasses placed both indoors and outdoors, as well as on pig carcasses placed outdoors in Warri, Southern Nigeria, belong to seven orders: Diptera (Muscidae, Calliphoridae, Sarcophagidae, Formicidae, Tachinidae), Coleoptera (Chrysomelidae, Staphylinidae, Scarabaeidae, Silphidae, Cleridae, Dermestidae, Histeridae), Hymenoptera (Formicidae), Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Blataria, and Orthoptera (Grillidae). Additionally, the difference in placement affected larval growth, with carcasses placed in enclosed spaces showing higher larval growth compared to those placed in open spaces. Abstract

Those natural resources are valuable as herbal remedies for maintaining reproductive health. However, a lack of self-care practices during adolescence can stem from limited awareness and insufficient information on personal hygiene, including a lack of understanding about the use of herbal natural resources. This program aims to educate students to increase their knowledge about natural resources as ingredients for reproductive health remedies, providing a strategic step to help adolescence address these issues. The program targeted female 10th-grade students of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Permata, Mojokerto. The implementation included preparatory stages (preliminary surveys), program execution through educational sessions, herbal remedy-making demonstrations, and evaluations. Based on the evaluation, significant improvements were observed in students’ performance, reflected by increased knowledge about natural ingredients, herbal remedies that can be created from them, and their benefits for reproductive health. This was evidenced by a shift in score distribution to the 90-100 range, or the maximum score. This educational program at MA Permata Mojokerto successfully fostered awareness and understanding of natural ingredients, as well as the proper preparation and use of herbal remedies to support reproductive health. Keywords: Herbal Remedies, Learning Outcomes, Jamu, Student Awareness

Abstract

Evidence found at the crime scene (TKP) in the form of bloodstains needs to be examined to ensure that the evidence is really blood so that it can assist the investigation process. However, in some cases, criminals can remove or remove bloodstains using detergents that are used daily which contain surfactants. The purpose of this study was to find out how to examine and describe hemoglobin crystals in blood spots exposed to several powder detergents using the Teichmann test. This study used an experimental method using 3 different brands of detergent with 2 controls, namely a positive control with the presence of blood spots and a negative control without blood spots. The examination results obtained positive control results in all experiments as much as 100% still giving a brown rhombus-shaped appearance of hemoglobin crystals like needles even though the blood spots had been exposed to powder detergent. Abstract

Botany is the study of plants and plant life. Forensic botany is the study of plants, their relation to law and legal issues and can be used as evidence in a case. The characteristics and parts of each plant can be used as evidence when found on the body or things related to a person or the scene of a case. Botanical evidence found at a crime scene can be used to assist the investigation process related to the relationship between the victim, the perpetrator and the scene. The evidence found can be evidence that can be seen directly and microscopic evidence that requires laboratory analysis for identification, therefore forensic botanical analysis must be carried out by experts in the field of botany. Forensic botanical evidence in an investigation can provide information related to the estimated time of death, how long the victim was buried, the cause and manner of death.

Abstract

The discovery of bodies in Indonesia is a frequent occurrence. Identifying these bodies requires determining the gender, height, and other physical characteristics to narrow down the search for the victim's identity. Computed tomography (CT) is the modality of choice for evaluating the anatomical details and pathological conditions of the sternum, sternoclavicular joints, and surrounding soft tissues. Given this issue, the researchers were interested in conducting a literature review on morphometric studies of the sternum using computed tomography scans to differentiate gender in various countries. The research method employed was descriptive observational, utilizing a literature review design from several articles published within the last 15 years. The articles selected for this study were based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria set by the researchers. A total of 20 articles were used in this study. Conclusion, The literature review shows that the increasing number of morphometric studies, particularly in different populations, provides valuable data for researchers. CT can be utilized for the morphometric analysis of living subjects or discovered bones. If parts of the skeleton, such as the pelvis or skull, are not found or are damaged, forensic specialists and forensic anthropologists can accurately estimate gender using the sternum.
